Strong rumours going around that Ten Hag to United is imminent.
Another one is United have held talks with Paul Mitchell.

I like EtH and think he'd be an excellent option for manager (not the only one) .

However, personally I think bringing someone like Paul Mitchell in would be an absolute masterstroke and so much more important long term than any manager we sign.

While we lament having such a poor squad, we need to appreciate that we have spent well in excess of £1bn to have such a poor squad. We need someone with expertise in finding and securing high quality signings. And Paul Mitchell has one of the best records in the industry for that.

? We are able to secure him to a key role within the club.

Welcome to Manchester Erik!
Too soon?

Ed,

Is there any truth to the Erik ten Haags agent being in talks with United currently? .

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - I don’t know but he is an option to Pochettino and Ajax are expecting a discussion with Manchester United.}

If having talks was a success metric we'd be #1.

If EtH comes, will he demand respect or command respect. For me if he has to demand then he will fail at Man Utd. With all due respect to Ajax, its nowhere near the size of Man Utd. More like Everton or Spurs.

Erik works best with a young squad, think most of us will be happy to see the "experienced" members of the squad moved on in favour focusing on bringing through youth.
According to a lot of sources Erik talked with United this week, let's hope it went well.

Stories doing the rounds that we have had a meeting with Ten Hag this week.

Whether he is appointed remains to be seen, whether his appointment would actually work out is also unclear but there is undoubtedly something promising to be taken from these reports about United's attitude towards the next manager. We've moved away from managers who are unemployed, have a very different attitude to the last manager, are hugely different tactically from the last manager and therefore need an entire squad bought for them, to a manager who is highly rated, would require us to speak with another high level club to organise a departure and he has shown he can improve players while still having them play good football.

As much as new signings are needed, the biggest improvement we could make is to get the players who will still be here next season performing to the level they can and having some of the younger players brought through and improved over the next couple of seasons.

Good post RJ.
This summer is more about who we get out than get in.
We got rid of ole now it's time to get rid of the players he let sink as low as a snakes belly.

I agree RJ and Ken. I think the main thing for us next season is quality over quantity. I’d rather we identify players the new manager can hopefully develop. There’s a lot of talented youngsters at the club who would handily take the limited minutes mata and lingard have had, rather than go and spend £30 million on someone to warm the bench.

Are psg expecting a discussion with United?

{Ed002's Note - Pochettino remains first choice - Manchester United may be hoping he is sacked. PSG want to avoid that.}

Agree caolan. So much unnecessary padding paying players fortunes for zero or little contribution.
Mata Jesse matic Jones pereira tuanzebe cavani none need replacing other than from our academy.
Then hopefully we can trade well and replace some or all of bailly awb dalot Fred pogba and martial.

Oh to be a fly on the wall with these meetings, to hear a manager's vision and ideas for a team. To hear his response when asked what the problems are with the current team as he saw them and the solutions.
Still more excited by the thought of ten Hag than Poch, probably as he hasn't done too much wrong yet whereas Poch has been in strong positions to win more without being able to cross the line. Admittedly there has always been more pressure on Poch. Both top of weak leagues, yet both slipping out of the CL when in decent positions and probably should have progressed.

There you have it. Penny pinching on the next manager. If we want poch then you go and get him. Start acting like a proper football club. We like to give off the impression of competency.

Ken if they identify 3/ 4 priority positions, so for me a centre half, defensive midfielder, a right back are an absolute must.

We probably need two midfielders, but garner deserves a fair crack at it and I think Hannibal Mejbri does too.

Use any sales etc to look at other positions perhaps, but we have some serious talent in the academy looking at the likes of Garnacho, McNeill, Jurado, Mainoo, Mejbri and Shoretire.

IMO Garner could do a good job as a backup/ rotation number 6 or 8. As a 6 I think he'd do well against smaller teams playing a low block, pulling strings from deep. I'd like to see how some of the others like McNeil and Shoretire do at PL level too, even if it's only as subs or occasional starts against smaller teams like in the cups.

Even if Ten hag is the right manager, appointing him because they're too scared and cheap to go get their first choice means we're doomed to fail again.
