Hi Ed, the latest is United looking at Kante for a bargain deal at DM with our other targets unavailable. Anything in this?

Hope not. It may be a one off season but his legs seem to have gone a bit. We need to build for the next few years.

While he has been a fantastic player the club need to start looking to the future and not the past.

We complain that the club keep signing older big name star players who are past their best, but then get easily sucked in when we get linked to the next one.

We don't need any more Falcao's, Zlatan's, Cavani's or Ronaldo's.

We need players who will grow and development with the club and spend their best years here and not their twilight years on a big bumper contract only really contributing through shirt sales.

I have no problem with Kante or Kante type player coming in (one) if you also bring in a young player (if say Kamara had joined) . This would have given us flexibility in the position and also someone who could teach Kamara as well as the other players high work ethic.
If it is just Kante then I would worry however again in this total rebuild I can accept it as a stepping stone if we then get the actual DM ETH wants next year.
This is a multi year rebuild so stepping stones are needed.

I’d take Kante if we were to get a younger defensive minded CM as well. Kouadio Kone looks like a good prospect. Hopefully those rumours have some substance.

I’d love to see him at Utd for a couple of seasons. We’ve been bitten by too many washed out players looking for a quick pay day who go missing when it counts but you can tell how highly regarded Kante is by managers and players alike. Even Tuchel said last week they were missing the heartbeat of their team for most of the season. Which is the concern - the injury aspect.

You'd also need to think about his injury record. He's 31 now, his legs won't last forever. He has only started 21 league games this season due to suffering 5 separate injuries.

Players who play his style of all action high energy football tend to have shorter careers and burn out sooner at the top end of the game as opposed to someone like Modric who plays with his head.

Getting on a bit now but what a player he has been. Would have loved watching him at Utd, it's been a pleasure to watch him make an art out of a DM, for me there was a period when he was the best player in the world, he just wasn't the best sexy player so went under the radar despite the plaudits, it didn't really ever do him justice. A few years ago he would have been the first player I would have picked to build a team around.

i heard today from someone who spoke to one of our players last night, that we were all set to sign Declan Rice last summer with Fred going in the opposite direction, before the opportunity to sign Ronaldo surfaced.

Hopefully that deal is still an option this summer.

He also said that Ronaldo was essentially managing the team whilst Ralf was here, and that the dressing room is full of a large number of very small cliques with no cohesion at all between them as a group.

Apparently the dressing room was a LOT better under Ole.

{Ed014's Note - was that because they did what they wanted when Ole was around and he just repeated the fact they were a “great bunch of lads” where as RR called them out?

Absolutely no idea Ed014 but this player did say that the squad don't really talk let alone socialise with each other apart from within their own little circles.

This player did also say that he will give it until next summer then look to move if the atmosphere doesn't improve drastically.
