You know, the more that you look at our current squad the more you can see that LVG hasn't necessarily been brought in to win things.

He has been brought in because of his ego, not in spite of it. He has the b*lls to clear out players that aren't good enough and re-mold the first team. The amount of departures prove this.

He is also looking to leave the next manager with a whole bunch of young talent to build from: Shaw, Memphis, Martial and maybe Tielemans will all be fantastic players in the future and major players for us going forwards.

The more you look at alternatives to give praise to failure the more the club sinks into mediocrity.

I highly doubt a club of our stature and size and with the money available would pay someone the sort of money to act like a corporate raider and bench all their winning ambitions. Were do you guys get this stuff from lol

LVG was brought in to rebuild. The club massively underestimated the job on their hands replacing SAF, he was Master and Chief of all aspects of the club. In comes a new person, who fired much of the back room staff, the dictatorian structure and his Chiefs are gone leaving a lot of rebuilding. Moyes needed to be his own man but that's what hurt his reign the most.

The club needed a manager who could put in place an infrastructure in terms of youth teams (the eds have said how rubbish our youth system got), scouting, analysis all based in core principle that everyone can buy into.

The manager also needed to steady the ship get 4th at least and break up and rebuild an ageing squad.

LVG wa/is a great fit for these needs. He was instrumental in the youth set ups of Barca and Bayern, had a strong reputation for getting the best out of players, a history of developing youth and a strong enough character not to back down when making hard decisions.

In LVG we got what we needed, everything was a good fit. His desire to retire in 3 years and his acceptance of the challenge. He has broken the old squad up and is rebuild a younger one hopefully for the new guy after his 3 years are up. If he manages to hand us over whilst competing on all fronts and hopefully with a trophy or two, he will remembered very favourably by history.
