I want to try something to try and gauge opinions of the United faithful.

Now I know what it means to be a United supporter, I have been one all my life. But I don't want to see how much you guys love the club, I already know you do. But I want to gauge your opinions on what it is you love about football.

So I'd like everyone to get involved.

So here it is, if Manchester United didn't exisit, which club would you support and why?

The point of this is I wanna see what it is that attracts you most to our club. It would also be cool if the Ed's could join in, I know you don't all support United so just pretend if your club didn't exisit who would you support amd why?

{Ed001's Note - I have absolutely no idea, I would assume Everton, as they would be the only local side then and leave me with little chance of being brought up as anything else.}

Aston Villa as my dad was a massive villa fan.

City or stockport I'd guess, they were my closest other clubs. My dad is a city supporter too.

I'm a Manchester United fan because my dad brought me up to be, taking me to games and buying me shirts but I'm from Mansfield so I kind of follow them due to them being local. But other than supporting United and going to the odd stags game I really like what Southampton are about. The amount of players that come out of their academy and do well is unreal. The only shame is that they can't keep them, but that's been to our benefit on a couple of occasions. I also like koeman as a manager, I like to see them doing well as long as they're not playing us! Always had a bit of a soft spot for west ham as well, maybe that's from watching green street as a kid!

Ed001, to solve that "the only local side" issue we'll assume that your club has gone bankrpt and there has not been a MK Dons type club rising from the ashes of your beloved.

What I'm hoping to see is that it is the thing you love most about your club which attacts you to a new/ alternative club.

For me it would be either Spurs or Southampton, I like Southampton's slant on youth development. And Spurs for their traditional hell mary style of play.

{Ed001's Note - in that case I would have no idea. When I got into footie I was just a small child. It was not about choosing my club, I was brought up to be a Liverpool fan. If they didn't exist, I am sure I would have just been brought up to support someone else.}

Difficult to say really. I grew up in Cornwall so there is no 'local' team. The closest Geographically is Plymouth Argyle about 50 miles away. I support United because of my grandad who lived in Cheshire and used to go every week and told me so many stories about some of the great aunited players, Duncan Edwards in particular.
When I was a kid in the late 70's and 80's, all my mates supported Liverpool. I hated them even back then.
I guess if anyone else, it would have been Spurs. Not because of they were successful, but because they too had/ have a history and tradition of playing good football. Thinking back to players like Ardilles, Hoddle (who I can't stand as a manager or pundit), Waddle, Gazza etc.
I'm still have a 'soft spot' for Spurs, along with teams like Norwiçh and Southampton.
United will always be my team, and I always want them to win.
The title is beyond us now this season given the way things have gone recently, so I am 100% behind Leicester City this year in terms of who I want to win the league.

I chose to support United rather than Liverpool in the early 80s because Bryan Robson was my hero.

So, with no United, I reckon I'd be an Everton fan because of Kendall's wonderful team.

I remember a few years ago I got slaughtered for calling myself a football fan before a United fan and I still stand by that.

I do and will always support my home town club Getafe, maybe that's why I'm not throwing my toys out the pram when United struggle, I'm used to it back in Spain ;)

Have a great day guy!

Round here there is no professional team in the county. The nearest is Coventry then villa/ brum. A lot support Leicester including a lot of my family.

So it would probably be Leicester for family reasons. Or possibly wolves as I lived there for a time and saw a few games. Always look for how they do.

My Grandad loves Utd with a passion and is also from Manchester originally until his company moved to Milton Keynes to which he obviously moved too? Now he's retired and lives Spain but that's my reason I went with Utd! My Dads a jock and supports Queen of the South so there wasn't much contest really! Hahaha!

My family all come from around the Alnwick area. I suppose it would have been Berwick or Newcastle? My dad was a United fan from the days of best etc so it was obvious I followed him. I was born in Aylesbury and have lived in Milton Keynes all my life, and no I will not support MK Dons.

That's difficult, my dad raised me and has always supported United. I guess I have to say crystal palace as when I came to actually deciding who to support it was the 1990 fa cup final, the 3-3 draw and I went for United, otherwise I'd have gone for palace.

I can't even contemplate that shaps. You are United red or you are dead imo.
If United didn't exist tomorrow I would hope that Liverpool finish second every year and in every competition. because the pain of nearly winning and losing is greater than coming last😁😁😁
My second favourite team has always been Everton.

Being from Ireland always supported Celtic as my second club. As a child growing up supported utd my dad was an arsenal fan. I remember us being relegated in 74 which I took awful bad I was devastated. I remember my mum buying me a Qpr mug, must have changed allegiance but that only lasted a few months soon back supporting United filling scrapbooks with photos and newspaper cuttings all the daft things a child done back then.

I was born in Oldham and supported United since 77. Like most I was taken on the match by my dad and my 2 brothers and I were hooked instantly.

I'm proud to say the seats I have now at OT are the ones I gazed at longingly standing in the then Stretford Paddock.

So going to a United game for me is always a return to my childhood in many ways.

I could never swap that for anything.

But. if I had to I would be a Burnley fan. Lived there 25 years after moving from Oldham in my teens and all of my mates are mostly Clarets. Small town, big football heart. And they've been from the verge of extinction to the Prem.

Growing up with Yeovil being the only club in 20 miles, I've always been a huge fan, but while they were struggling in the Conference I took on the household United tradition. I was brought up on tales of Best whilst Giggsy was coming to the fore, so I embraced my own pacey dribbler and have been hooked ever since.

The excitement that United brought to each game with attractive play and a never say die attitude is the reason I love the club. No one can compare to that, but the capability to wow the crowd and then to completely capitulate that Spurs have repeatedly demonstrated I can imagine is rather exciting, though no doubt frustrating too. I've always had a soft spot for them and I think it's that exciting potential without really ever threatening that has led to it.

Huddersfield because that's where I was born. But my Dad is from Manchester, I had no choice I was brought up a Utd fan, all my mates at school were Liverpool or Leeds and always hated them both.
Other Prem teams I have always had a soft spot for are Everton and Tottenham, I think because of some great players they had when I was a kid. Hoddle, Lineker, Gazza etc.
