With Spurs, Chelsea and Everton all moving to bigger and better stadiums in the not so distant future, I think it's about time we seriously considered increasing the capacity at OT.

We need to keep ourselves ahead of the rest and react to what our competitors are doing.

Other clubs are growing and we need to take notice.

I've always wondered why when you have so much money that you haven't built some huge new state of the art stadium, much like the Allianz Arena where they still maintain a fantastic atmosphere.

Is it because of the history at Old Trafford?

Lots of things I believe Stoner:

Cost a fortune
Owners in it short term-ish, (rumours they wanted to sell soon in an ideal world) .
We already have the largest capacity by far
Location/ Planning headaches
Hard to plan finances with lack of progress on the pitch.

Danny,

The club have been looking to expand the south stand for a large number of years but due to the railway it has always been extremely difficult. Apparently there is some new technology available that will allow us to build over the railway and that is being looked at.

Infrastructure of the whole area needs developing when the stadium gets to a certain size. If you suddenly increase the capacity of a stadium by 20,000 etc you have to think of everything that involves, parking, public transport etc.

I took my nipper on the tour last month and someone asked the tour guide if the stadium will be expanded and he replied that there are no plans to expand and in his opinion it won't be under the current owners. I was abit surprised because of the new plans with the disabled seating and the seats due to be lost maybe they will offset this with the safe standing trial that is being thrown around.

I think the law has to be changed before standing can be brought back in England and Wales, and I don't see the politicians supporting it while the Hillsborough families are opposed. However Liverpool supporters groups, who are in favour of rail seating are meeting the Hillsborough families on 21 May to discuss the matter, so everything might change.
