I can't believe we are going to spend £60 or £70 million on Dier when Roy Keane only cost us £3.6 million!

Do people on here not move with times?

Kyle Walker the avergae/ good full back has just gone for £45 or £50 million so why would a good defensive mid not go for £70 million?

He can keep the ball and can play cb too if needed and does the job in front of the back 4 that Carrick has done wonderfully well for years.

He's coming from a club with a chairman who gets top money for his players so i don't really see the issue if JM wants him.

We need to get the prices into perspective. Neymar's buyout is reported to be £200 million so it's all relevant really in todays climate.

Dier has limited passing ability, and is nowhere near Carrick's standard. He has been phased out of the Spurs midfield during the course of the season, and is better as a CB. He has played in midfield internationally, and has been very poor. Carrick is a deep lying playmaker, and does far more than just keep possession. His ability allows other midfielders to play further up the pitch, and strikers to play on the shoulder. Dier simply does not have the passing range, and struggles to start attacks. This means that other midfielders drop back to collect the ball from him, and you can see this with England.

If we're planning on buying him to play in defence, he might be a decent option but massively overpriced, even in today's market.

for £70 million we should be aiming for Tony Kroos.

spurs won't sell him.

Yeah for £70 million we should be signing Tony Kroos that's a helpful comment!

Madrid have already proved difficult to deal with as far as Morata goes and Kroos seems happy winning torphies in madrid.

So what makes you think Kroos is achievable?

As for Dier being good enough or as good as Carrick JM is better qualifed than me to make those decisions i'm just saying let's not get to hung up on price all the time.

Does anyone on here really think the Glaziers are spending money they can't afford?

Seems that £40m-£50m is the going rate for a general transfer these days so I suppose in a case like Dier who is young, a Levy player and a specialist if you like in his role plus it's known united are looking for a a DM and have cash to burn it's not surprising £60m is bandied around tbh.

Don't like it but it's the way it is. Clubs simply don't need to sell anymore so most transfers are way over the odds. Seems Jose was correct when he said the Pogba fee will seem reasonable come this summer and beyond.

He's poor at CB. I'd steer clear.

Chorltonred - because in the sharkopod ed002 said Kroos might be a possibility. Reel your neck in fella!

Diet not as good as matic.

My preferred CM is Kroos.

You should have a listen to the sharkopod chorlton and you might learn something rather than having a go at people with different opinions.

Chorlton. I don't think Dier has anything to offer. Full stop. If Spurs want £70m for him then that's up to them.
If we gathered all us United posters and put us all together and added all our salaries for our working lives then multiplied the figure by 50, then we still won't get to £70m. Does that put things into perspective?
I know it's not our money but we want our club to be successful on and off the pitch. If we're not successful off the pitch then how can we afford to buy players?
Throwing £60m-£70m on Dier is simply nuts. He is not worth half this amount. In fact, he's not worth anything as he will not improve our team.

Dier is the opposite of a specialist. He has played cb, rb, and cdm for Spurs. Cdm is his worst position, and that's why Spurs bought Wanyama last summer.

Speak for yourself NoMid. I'm a member of the landed gentry, with properties in Miami, Cannes, Bel Air, London, and a small country retreat in Cornwall, that I use to host fabulous feasts and banquets, when my old mucker, the Duke of Westminster is in the area. I could probably buy Dier for the club if you want, with the interest I earn on my savings account every year. And I only hang around here with you plebs, to see how the working/ under class get their kicks.

Well I will reel my neck in when it happens pal and i will be only too glad to do so if it does happen as i want Kroos myself more than any other cm.

However if he was a possibilty why would we be wasting our time chasing Dier?

Pretty obvious Kroos is not coming and if you are arouind long enough and still posting in September i will be more than happy to give you the i told you so speech!

SchMidfield,

You are missing the point slightly pal. I'm just saying if he is a target we will only get him by paying the going rate.

Theses clubs no longer need to sell so we either p[ay what they want or go with what we have.

If Dier is even a target or good enough remains to be seen but if he is we will not be getting him for 20 or 30 million.

That approach has worked well so far for Woodwood with Morata and Perisic i see.

Angelred,

You may see naming 4 or 5 players in each position as some what informative and information you can't live without, however I don't.

As for me having a go at other peoples opinions haven't you just done the exact same thing to my opinion in your post?

Maybe i'm just so comfortable with my own opinion that i don't need to blow smoke up peoples arse's who call us toxic and who were nothing short of downright rude and dismisive to people on here when they wanted LVG out.

15.) 18 Jul 2017
18 Jul 2017 20:15:43
Chorlton Red, I didn't say he would be signing. My comment was that if we were prepared to spend £70 million on a central midfielder I would prefer we used it to try to tempt Real to sell Kroos to us.

I only mentioned Kroos because Ed002 linked him to us, it would probably take that kind of money to bring him to OT and he would be a much better signing than Dier.

I wanted LVG gone and I also don't appreciate being called toxic for it.

16.) 18 Jul 2017
18 Jul 2017 20:36:34
LVG was the toxic one. Good riddance to him.

As for Dier - I've said many times I don't get it. And not for £60m. Kroos - yes please.

17.) 18 Jul 2017
18 Jul 2017 20:45:36
Okay. So we're all in agreement that we would prefer Kroos to Dier and that LVG was crap?

Shall we leave it there?

18.) 18 Jul 2017
18 Jul 2017 21:26:59
The anti-football I watched under LVG, was the worst I've ever seen as a Utd fan, and that includes the Moyes and Sexton years. I never like seeing a manager or player not make it at Utd, and I really wanted it to work for him, but the man's dinosaur-thinking on how football should be played, was the antithesis of what I believe the game to be about. If that makes me a toxic, then so be it.

19.) 18 Jul 2017
18 Jul 2017 22:43:45
Ps if Jack Wilshere really is available for £6m I'd take him at tenth the price and rotate him with Carrick!

Comedy gold reading your descriptions of dier. You really haven't got a clue. Danny pughnited lol classic, seriously stick to analysing your own team cause you are way off on your dier description.

I have no problem debating, you are just totally disregarded people's opinions.

So ed002s information is not informative, do me a favour, what he's forgotten about football you'll never know 😂😂

How the hell would you know who is coming or not? Tell me then who else we are signing as kroos is definitely not coming.

Another one slagging Woodward. remind us what football clubs you've run.? 😂.
