Im not advocating buying Willian at all but when you see that performance against Mexico you see how simple a game can be when you have a player who can dribble at speed and then pass to a player in the same colour shirt. 4 attackers against 4 defenders dribble past 2 of them now its 4 v 2 . and he tracks back like Tevez. harrassing defenders. we have had some great dribblers/ wingers . just wished we saw more of it at Utd.

But I think his end product hasn't been good this WC and from what Chelsea fans share, his end product is always inconsistent. Maybe I will pass this one if given a choice.

I agree. My mates who are Chelsea fans are pretty divided on him. As per Deependra’s comments, he’s quite hit and miss and we have enough of that already in the squad. I like him as a player but not sure he’s what we need. However, Jose knows him well and if he feels he’s the man for us then I’ll get behind it, just like the new contact for the Wig.

As for another Brazilian, Neymar showing this World Cup exactly why I want him nowhere near our club. His embracing behaviour ought to be punished. If my boy acted like that in any walknof life I’d be having serious words with him. He’s a disgrace and such a shame as clearly a very good player.

Spot on regarding Neymar Eric. He is a disgrace and frankly an embarrassment. He is meant to be a role model for millions of kids around the world and he is rolling around play acting at the faintest touch. There will be kids that idolise and worship him and will no doubt be copying him when they get on the pitch. To add to that, he has been very average this World Cup. Coutinho has been Brazil’s main man for me. He’s a top player tbh.

Willian is a curious case. When he is on form he is a wonderful player. Dynamic, quick dribbler who gets you off your seat. But like many have said above, he can be very hit and miss. I actually really like him but I find myself wanting him then not wanting him depending on which day of the weak it is. If we can get him playing consistently then he will be a great addition. A proper rw which we desparetly need.

I agree he is a bit inconsistent, for the money being mentioned it is too much for me. Got to remember who he is up against as well. I think I'm right in saying it was a player who plays in Mexico who is normally a left winger - hardly what he is up against in the Prem!

Beast,

To be fair that is what he is up against when he plays against us lol.

The fees for players now are simply outrageous.
That said the fee is not the most important thing as far as I'm concerned as its not my money. The most important factor for me is getting the right player with the right character and attributes to be a success at United. Its always a gamble to some extent.
I agree with you beast on willian. He is a good player no doubt he would improve our squad no doubt about that but i'm not sure he is the right player at this time and will make the difference needed.

60 million for Willian is peanuts, let's put things into perspective. Leicester have just paid 22 million pounds to Norwich for a winger who played in the Championship last season. I think he would be a top buy for us.

If we assume Jose stays for next 3years then for me Willian could be the best option. Fits Jose's style and works hard, had his best season under Jose too.
If Jose goes after this season I would sooner a younger player with more upside who may suit other managers. Pullisic, Brandt etc
I think with Pogba, Sanchez, Lukaku, Rashford, Lindgard +1 RW we would have a quality front line capable of beating anyone.

I agree that a player of Willian's profile would be great for our squad, but paying potentially 60 million for him? No thanks don't see the value in that. Would much rather pay 80 million for Pulisic who could serve us for a decade longer.

Also, I thought the consensus was that 50-60 million for the best centre half in the league was way too much, just because he's 29. This world cup has shown us 29 is nothing for a centre back, he's still got plenty in the tank.

Have any of you seen Eric's video on neymar?

Regards Willian the inconsistency is an issue but last season was there other factors? He didn't get on with Conte. Chelsea were poor as a team for period. If his consistency went up he could be a possibility but not for that price.

My issue with Willian isn't the price he would cost but whether he really is an improvement on what we have.

He will turn 30 next season, and in over 12 years as a professional he has had one great season, not an outstanding one just a great one. And that season was two years ago now. For the other 12 seasons as a professional he has had good flashes, but has lacked the consistency to elevate him to the level of a world class player.

Then consider that lady forwards tend to be on borrowed time once they hit thirty due to the increased likelihood of them losing some of their pace then it becomes a rather poor deal at any price. He might keep his pace for another 3-4 years, or it might be gone in 1-2.

Should we heavily invest in a player who has had one great season in 12 years and could soon lose a key element of what makes him a good player on his day.

For me Willian is a less talented all be it slightly harder working Nani.

I'd take Willian, works hard for the team going to get 7/ 10 every week just for the work ethic and then when he's playing well can rise to a 8 or 9.

I think most of us would take Willian over nobody coming in for the right, as we are so desperate out there. It's a bit Perisicy for me though (remember that debate last year), there is better out there for the money, not much development to come from Willian either.

I'd hate us to buy Willian and then that stop us going for somebody better. I think for the money in question we can afford to wait, Chelsea are asking too much imo. I'd let them blink first, either with price or them signing a replacement and being lumbered with an expensive unhappy squad player. I think we'll pick up £30m+ by selling Mata as well.

Beast I seriously would rather not sign someone than sign the wrong person.

For me the biggest problem we have had since Sir Alex retired has been recruitment. We have signed so many players who were not as good as those who they were replacing or signings made for "branding" reasons. We've spent nearly 500m since Sir Alex left, of which over 200-250m was completely wasted. And that's not including the wages. What sort of team could we have right now with 200-250m worth of the right players already in the squad.

I would honestly rather have no one come in on the right hand side than the wrong person. We currently have Mata and Lingard who can do a job there. Sanchez can play there as well and we have Chong in the youth set up who could be given a chance.

Personally I have said previously I would like to see us go with a 442 diamond or 352 formation next season. With Martial and Rashford given more time as strikers alongside Lukaku. This would also hopefully take some of the pressure off of Lukaku who will be playing another full season after a 55+ game season and a world cup. So it might be a bit too much to expect him to play 55+ games as a lone striker.

In which case a player for wide right is less of a requirement.

Couldn’t agree more beast. Willian is better than no one but I would like us to aim higher. That would obviously be bale but I don’t feel confident we can get that done. Maybe if zidane had stayed we would we have been able to. But I think it may be difficult now.

Supposedly Jose's priorities ate a back up striker and a top centre back. I agree we've wasted a lot of money of players not good enough. Hopefully some of these will depart in the next few weeks but I'm not going to hold my breath.
