@GDS2

One of your replies to a previous post of mine.

"I wouldn't let a signing or 2 ruin the whole season for you. It isn't like we don't have midfielders, they are just yet to show their worth. This gives Fred, Matic and Pereira the chance to prove they are United players, if they can't then we might struggle, but I am hoping one of them can push on this year, you never know. "

This along with Shappy's post today has to be perhaps some of the worst blind positivity for positivity's sake arguments I've read on here for a while.

"Its not like we don't have midfielders" is an embarrassing argument, even for a glass half full person. "

I'd rather have a blindly positive person than a blindly negative person.

When the sticky stuff hits the fan the positive person gets on with it whereas the negative nelly is already defeated.

I thought it was a bit much for a fortune cookie but hey.

Anybody who has hopes on Fred and Periera to save our season is in for a shock, i will rather play Gomes ahead of Fred.

I can’t take it anymore are we going to sign anyone else or not!
Or is it going to be a deflating day.

Pressed send too early.

"Fred, Pereira and Matic to prove they are United players". Really? Have you not seen enough of Matic to make a judgement? He has been awful even in pre season friendlies and teams have targeted him for a year now.

Pereira its the same story every year. He has a decent pre season but then he finds his level when the real matches get going. He is average and should be sold to a team where he will play regularly for the sake of his career.

Fred has had one of the worst seasons of any major United signings in memory for me. But I can understand a slight hope that he will come good. But that isn't somewhere we should depend on. Do you really believe what you just wrote?

Another season out of the UCL will be absolutely disastrous for the club. Targets will become more impossible to buy and we will be quoted even higher prices for more desperation and sponsorships will dry up. Try looking at the situation objectively based on evidence we have rather than blind hope.

Unlike us, Arsenal have smelled the coffee and have invested with great intent and addressed all key areas to cement a 4th spot by even using next year's budget as explained by Ed002.

I really don't want to be negative but when I look at that midfield I feel sorry for our defense and our forwards.

"Don't get hung up on 1 or 2 players" you say. Remember how just one signing in Carrick completely transformed us and brought the best out of the rest of the squad? That is the effect a good CM signing can have. Makes everyone else look better. Remember how just one signing in RVP masked the deficiencies of the rest? Quality signings at the striker or CM positions can be transformative.

You made some poor banter about Christmas presents, the whole point is one shouldn't be waiting till Christmas to change the stove that broke in March.

Agreed redfaith. Positivity on it's own is not going to turn Pereira and Fred into great midfielders. They need to have skill and application. Neither of them possesses either in abundance.
If we think a midfield containing our existing players is suddenly going to compete with the best, then they are sadly mistaken.
That's not negativeness, it's just reality. Just like I'm not about to beat Rory McElroy at golf.
