I think people are missing the point that we desperately need a holding midfielder.

Mctominay is better going forwards, still can't pass the ball well enough to build up, better being used as a box to box midfielder.

Saul is a box to box midfielder as is ruben neves and mcginns best work is done going forwards.

We need a player in the mould of carrick, fabinho and rodri are good examples of that type of player in the premier league that we desperately need. Someone who can build up play and screen the back 4.

DSG, I believe we can develop McTominay into a solid DM.
He is 6ft 4, can dominate players, has loads of energy and tenacity.

Other than him, only Declan Rice springs to mind to play the holding role.
Another player with huge potential who will walk into our team.

Lots of noises about Rakitic and Mandzuikic to us.
I can understand the move Mandzuikic - a short term fix for 10 years. Less than for Rakitic - past his best but still costing 30 million plus high wages. Not sure of English football would suit him at his age considering he spent his better years playing at a much slower tempo.
Tbh I m not very enthusiastic about former Barcelona and Real Madrid players. They see us as a step down and they lose the hunger to play.

Ruben Neves is a very good holding/ playmaking player. Reads the game very well and reminds me of Carrick as much as anyone in the epl. Maybe Rodri can be that type of player under Pep, but bot seen him show the passing range yet that neves has.

Declan rice is an excellent shield, not as good with the ball.

Not seen too much of McGinn, but doesn't fill me with hope that utd are aspiring to have Scotland's midfield!

Matic is now a liability though, Fred more miss than hit, so all of these are an improvement on players in our squad.

Neves I think is a really good player. but I don't get all the hype over Declan rice think we can do better but not a clue who.
