It was a deliberate foul taken in a range of revenge.
The injury and outcome was an accident but it was the outcome of a deliberate premeditated foul.
Bit like manslaughter.
SON should hang his head in shame its all his fault.
I meant to foul him but not hurt him is not the sort of excuse that should stand up anywhere.

Im serious though Singh.
The ' professional or tactical foul' or deliberate foul pre meditated in the eyes of the ref no matter where it happens on the pitch should be a minimum of a 20 min sin bin.
Its as big a blight on the game as diving.
Its cheating simple as that.
Ive done it as a player of course but i'd have been happy to be more severely punished than a yellow. Its no worse than diving or going down holding your face or deliberately punching the ball into the net.

Ken, are you going through a mid life crisis, you seem very grumpy lately, I'd give you a hug if I was near you❤️.

Thanks corky. 😂😂just one of my pet hates mate.
The punishment doesn't fit the crime in most cases. It stops goals and good attacking play
Son never meant to hurt him i'm sure but he went out to deliberately foul him. So i don't feel sorry for him at all.

Manslaughter 😂😂 best post on here for ages. See tackles like that every game, never a red card, poor guy.

If we start doing what you suggested then the players will become very robotic and defenders will be scared of tackling.

These things are part of football and has been going on since the game started.

Tackling will soon be outlawed at this rate. Its a real and underrated part of the game. Son in no way set out to injure Gomes. His tackle was reckless and he should be punished for it but we need to allow and encourage the physicality of the game to flourish. A fair crunching tackle can set the tone for a match, rouse the crowd and inspire a team.

But Salford it wasn't a crunching 50/ 50 challenge, it was a cynical trip designed to stop play, take a yellow for the team and allow the spurs defense to regroup.

I'm sure he never thought of the horrid outcome to his actions, but with the proximity of Aurior he really didn't need to do it.

Ken's right it's cheating, should be a sin bin job, same as diving.

The boy made a tackle for his team, no one sets out to injure a player like that, to be fair to son he isn't that type of player, and the boy was inconsolable after the game, and hats off to coleman for going in to the spurs dressing room to talk with him, after he suffering the same type injury himself.
Look at the end of the day most of us could get injured at work everyday, well the people that do work because nowadays the world is full of lazy arses.
Sppedy recovery to gomez.

I said Son should be punished. I was trying to make the wider point that tackling is slowly but surely being squeezed out of the game and matches will be all the poorer for it.

Proper tackling is an art form. Bobby Moore was a prime exponent. He was clean and fair with his tackles and didn't have to resort to cynical challenges. Teddy Sheringham always used to say that he was not fast physically over five yards but mentally he had already put himself ahead of his opponents. That too is how the beat defenders operate. They see danger before most other players on the pitch even begin to think about it but of necessary will tackle hard too. Watch Van Djik for Liverpool. he reads the game so well that he rarely has to make a last ditch tackle. But he will and does if needs be.

I agree with you Salford, it will ruin football if they try to take away tackling, but I won't be surprised if they try to come up with something.

i think the sin bin could really benifit the game, red cards ruin games, most games after a red the games basically over and its dull as, with one team under the cosh and unable to attack. A lot of red cards are more than yellows, but a red is very harsh. if 2 stupid yellows or a reckless but not overly dangerous challenge got you a man down for 10/ 20 mins, but not the whole game, so you could try and hold out and then come back, i think it would add to the excitement. obviously really dangerous tackles should still be red.

Stevie how many people do you meet that tell you they didn't mean it?
He wasn't tackling he was not going for the ball.
He meant to foul he just didn't mean to hurt him.
But that's no excuse.
Of course its not as serious as manslaughter or DD. But it comes from the same thought process.
He committed a deliberate foul and the chap broke his ankle as a consequence of that act.
