This summer might be our only chance to keep Henderson as a few big clubs appear to be circling like Chelsea. I can't see him wanting another loan so it has be an open competition for the no1 with the loser being moved on. Problem is daves on a relatively new deal with big wages, BIG BIG decision to be made and it must be done on performance not sentiment.

A couple of weeks ago I was leaning toward loaning out Henderson and keeping DDG for one more season as No.1. However, with other clubs pushing to sign Henderson along with DDG's continued poor form I'm starting to sway towards making Henderson No.1 next season.

I'd stick with De Gea personally at least for next season and loan Henderson out. I don't think it's a Sanchez situation where you can never realistically see the player contributing again with De Gea. As bad a some of his errors have been, we have more pressing issues which need fixing ahead of a goalkeeper imo.

I think it's a mixture of concentration and not having as much to do. Possibly motivation as well as it's clear even though Romero is a good goalkeeper he's not going to challenge for number 1. I'd change the goalkeeping coach before changing the goalkeeper. If he is still making the same errors in a season with a new goalkeeping coach and Henderson coming back from his loan then I'd make the change.

Same shappy. I’m worried that we stick with Dave so hendo leaves to somewhere like Chelsea. Daves form isn’t just recent he’s been making these same errors for 18 months or so.

I don't think DDG is that good a keeper. He can't kick, doesn't command his area and when was the last time you saw him catch a cross? Now it seems he can't save a shot anymore so time to move him on and take advantage of already having a ready made replacement ready to go.

That's the thing for me Tim, when does bad form just become decline?

DDG has been in poor form for 18 months.

Wasn't Lingard panned for 12 months of poor form. With Lingard it appears the spell under Jose was a purple patch and not him playing at his true level.

I saw an article earlier that was titled did DDG peak in 2017.

Well that is probably his best year in terms of performances, and we are actually three years on from that. If you're not at your peak and your peak is behind you then you are declining.

The issue for me with DDG is that his best areas (including shot stopping) are the ones that have delined and historically with other keepers these areas usually decline quickly once they go. Unfortunately he is not making up for them with positional awareness or distribution like others can.
If we think that the decline is permanent then we bite the bullet now and move on to Henderson (there will be teething issues with him as well so if we do we need to be patient with him) . Work out best solution for DDG, I am sure there is a team that will happily take him on, wages being an issue of course.
No matter the future DDG shoukd be considered a brilliant keeper for us in an otherwise choppy period for our great team.

I think it would be ideal to lean Henderson for another season, ideally to a club playing European football. But after that I think it would be best to give De Gea and Henderson a season in which they compete for the first choice spot, like Chelsea did with Cech and Courtois. De Gea is making big mistakes quite regularly, although I would only blame him for the Mount goal in the Chelsea game, but he’s still got the ability, as he proved in the Palaca game where he was immense.

I saw a stat in the last two seasons De Gea has made 5 mistakes leading to goals in the Premier League, and he has conceded no more and no fewer goals than he was expected to concede, based on the number of shot and quality of shots he has faced. Whereas in the 2017/ 2018 season he made zero mistakes that led to goals, and he conceded I think 15 fewer goals that he was expected to concede. It has been a huge drop off, but he was our best player for 5 consecutive seasons, and he was certainly the best goalkeeper in the league, possibly the best goalkeeper in the world. He needs a break but he deserves another chance next season.
