Welcome to Manchester United Donny Van De Beek.
Hopefully he can join the long list of successful Dutch players to turn out for our great club.

Also it's a really nice gesture from Donny to take the no.34 shirt.

What's the significance of 34?

Seems like a genuinely nice kid. Chuffed we signed him. We have a decent core of 20-23 year olds developing at the club - Marcus, mason, Martial (maybe 24 i think), Brandon, Scott, Wan-Bissaka, Dan james and now VdB. Add sancho to that list if he joins. if they all continue to develop, in 3-4 years time that could be the core of a really strong team alongside mcguire, bruno etc.
Chelsea are in a similar place with mount, Gilmour, werner, havertz, pulisic, zouma etc.

His best friend wore 34, so he picked it for him.

It was Abdelhak Nouri's number at Ajax MancMan. Several of the group that were coming through with him have gone on to take #34 at their next clubs: Justin Kluivert did at Roma, Philippe Sandler at City, Amin Younes at Napoli and Kevin Diks at Fiorentina.

P. S. I only actually knew about Justin Kluivert and hadn't actually heard of any of the others but Google helped me!

Mancman - there was an Ajax kid in the academy with him who broke into the team around the same time as him called Abdelak Nouri. He collapsed in a friendly and suffered pretty severe brain damage and was in a coma for a long time. They were close friends and he’s close with his family and Nouri wore the number 34. Dean Henderson had it and gave it up .

34 is a tribute to his former teammate nouri at Ajax.

@Mancman- it was the number of a player at Ajax who was in the youth team and went into a coma. Very sad story, but a number of ajax players who have left have taken his number.
