Greenwood kicked out of the england squad for breaching C.V. 19 quarantine rules.

What should the club do with him?

Given the furore and hysteria in march and april over project restart and the suggestion that we would have to live with the virus being ridiculed as wanting people to die.

Should he be sacked?

Wow, that escalated quickly.

He has been a silly boy by the looks of it, on his first England call up as well .

Should clarify that i'm not calling for him to be sacked, but just emphasising the point that the response to this virus was an overreaction and the level of debate was very immature.

Just extending the logic that with this supremely deadly virus still around, should a draconian punishment be handed out to greenwood by the club for potentially endangering peoples lives?

The response to the virus was an over reaction? How?

Dont know all the facts yet-but on the face of it he has been a silly lad. More bad publicity. if true.
Take his age into consideration, Grealish didn't get sacked, nor the spurs players, or Man City players. needs his arse kicking by Ole - hopefully someone like Rashford -Matic -Mata can sit him down and try and spell it out to him how he has to conduct himself. -Maguire will get a bit of stick as well from the tabloids again. bad role model etc etc .

{Ed002's Note - They won't be able to sit him down for a couple of weeks.}

07 Sep 2020 14:14:30
Should we not wait until details emerge?
Doesn't look good either way for him it can't be that difficult to follow the squad rules.
It beggars belief that 2 young lads trying to make their way in the game would be so stupid.

Not sure what he has actually done, also Phil Foden as well sent home. Talks of sacking totally ridiculous IMO.

Personal opinion is Internationals shouldn't be being played anyway at the present moment.

Sacked? Seriously?

An 18 year old has made a stupid mistake which he will rightly be punished for by the FA. I would imagine United will fine him because he has brought shame on the club. Sacked, no.

It does not appear the virus is a “supremely deadly one” now, given hospital admissions and deaths but they are in no position to put anyone at risk. Jofra Archer broke the cricket bubble and was fined, I expect they will have the same and will learn from it.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when our club captain has a talk with him about how he should be representing the club when he's away🤣.

He's been a silly boy, and he will have to learn from it. At 18 on his first international call up, the club will talk with him. He will likely miss the first game of the season now. Most young players do something stupid when they start getting fame and money. If this is the worst of it and he learns then it's not the worst thing in the world.

Scoobydog.

I think the imposition by the uk government of mass lockdowns/ house arrest/ quarantines of both healthy and unhealthy people, considerable economic damage, huge disruption in childrens education, reduction in cancer screenings/ diagnoses and a statistical data querk of there being excess deaths at home coinciding with the governments “stay at home, protect the nhs” slogan was a massive overreaction and completely disproportionate to the real threat that c. v. 19 virus posed.

Again you may think that all of this was necessary to combat the virus, that is certainly a legitimate point of view but by extending that logic surely mason greenwood has been a very naughty boy and endangered peoples lives by breaching c. v. 19 secure protocols and a draconian punishment is in order.

47,

Hope you aren’t abusing posters again, dear me.

DSG,

I think you’re bringing your opinions on C.V. 19 on to this forum which aren’t really needed, get that enough all over social media, and no, he won’t be sacked.

{Ed047's Note - I don’t imagine you’ll ever grow up son 🤦‍♂️

All a bit early yet to get a handle on it . Southgate saying they didn't interact with any other squad members. only came too light this morning so not allowed to mix at breakfast, immediate action taken both sent home separately. asked if girls were in hotel Southgate said he hadn't got the facts but seems any contact wasn't around the hotel but outside of it . and he wasn't getting into any of that for now. fair enough.

I hate all this C.V. 19 bull. We are allowed to sit within 1 meter of each other in a bar or restaurant wear a mask in a ship, walk past each other in the street, not go to stadiums. It's all too confusing.

17.) 07 Sep 2020
07 Sep 2020 15:22:27
I don’t think the club really need to do anything. Being sent home after your first international call up is a much heftier punishment than anything the club is able to hand out. Hopefully he is able to learn from this.

07 Sep 2020 15:26:59
DSG I wonder if your opinion would be the same had you lost family members to CV? Given the world was pretty much locked down and some countries even now are increasing restrictions again on the back of rising R numbers doesn’t suggest an over reaction to me. But hey ho, some still believe the earth is flat. Go figure.

FA have sent both home.
Both the boys should and must learn from the incident.

Scoobydog, its a fair point but my gran did just pass away last week, she didn't die of CV but i don't agree that her death was any way less significant because it doesn't have CV on her deatb certificate, does that give my argument any more validity?

No because that would be a juvenile way of debating as is conflating the questioning of the severity of the C. V 19 lockdowns with flat earth theory. No one is saying the virus doesn't exist but rather are the restrictions in place proportionate to the threat from the virus.

The fact that countries are increasing restrictions again further emphasises my point that the response to the virus has been out of proportion.

He's just a young lad, we were all chasing skirt at that age, it's just youthful exuberance, give the young lad a break, the same with Fodden.

25.) 07 Sep 2020
07 Sep 2020 18:25:37
How does that logic work DSG?

Countries who imposed the same restrictions we did are now realising that they didn't go far enough, and you think that proves the initial response was an overreaction?

Logic suggests the opposite, that we underreacted.

{Ed047's Note - maybe DSG could volunteer to spend a week helping out in a COVID-19 ward.

Him and Danno.

Thorne

Countries who imposed the same restrictions we did, did so earlier, likely too early and are now experiencing further notable cases.

Perhaps the curve is the curve no matter what you do. Countries went further than us, for example France, yet are experiencing notable cases. Sweden didn’t lock down.

We shouldn’t try to be experts, it’s a Novel virus with no clear answers. However, this is a football page, let’s talk football.

What a shame! It's his first call up and it should have been a time for immense pride. I feel sorry for everyone concerned. I did innumerable stupid things when I was young so I'm not going to judge. Hopefully he learns from it and makes better decisions in future.
