Summer 2018, Manchester United have qualified for the UCL for only the second time since Sir Alex retired. Manager Jose Mourinho wants an over priced English player (Maguire) as his marquee summer signing. The club decide that he is too expensive and instead sign a midfielder (Fred) who although won't be first choice adds depth, and Dalot a fullback also to adds depth.

Fast forward to the summer of 2020, Manchester United have qualified for the UCL for only the third time since Sir Alex retired. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants on over priced English player (Sancho) as his marquee summer signing. The club decided he is too expensive and instead sign a midfielder (DvdB) who although won't be first choice adds depth, and Alex Telles a fullback who also adds depth.

The parallels are striking, will we learn from the mistakes of the past, or will we be cursed to keep making them.

Yes but Mourinho was a bad manager and Ole is a top manager so we'll be fine.

Shappy, Woodward is probably playing "Spin the Wheel" to decide on whom to sign and it's the manager that's in charge ends up a loser.

At the very least we are now signing proper players who have made the first team stronger. We should probably be happy with that. The way we do transfers is on another level all together and probably Woodie loves to leave it late and we fans have to endure being mentally dragged till the end of the transfer window.

It's unfortunate but that's what it is.

DVDB and Telles would be 1st choice most weeks tbh, I don't see the comparison, Sancho is overpriced but is the market we are in and again would be a regular starter.

It's not so much about the players we sign it's more about how we go about it and the timing of the signings that frustrates out of the fans. On the positive side we are making some very good signings recently - Bruno and now VdB look real quality. Hopefully we can improve the way we conduct our transfers in the near future.

Dalot was bought for long term potential, Telles will go into the first team. No comparison.

I also have no doubt we'll add someone at RW. It might not be Sancho, and I think some of the alternative targets would be big mistakes, but we'll get someone.
