Just out of interest if given the choice would you rather sign:

Jadon Sancho and Alex Telles

Or

Ismaila Sarr, Dayot Upamecano and Alex Telles?

{Ed047's Note - for United, 100% the bottom 3, that would be an awesome window.

I agree with Ed47 on this but wouldn’t the media profile and clicks be better for the first two?

Top 1 for me, the clubs main target is Sancho, It is who Ole wants and we have about 9 centre backs already.

And they are all crap.

Easily the bottom one. Be a fantastic window.

I agree with Ed047.

Red Man, while Sancho might get more media attention. I feel that if we build a better TEAM then we stand more chance of winning something. I think signing the three players makes us better over all than signing Sancho. Winning teams receive more media attention and clicks.

GDS, while I agree that we have far too many CB's, serious questions remain over whether any of them are good enough. People talk about missing out on Sancho this year probably means he joins someone else next year. While I agree with that, my concern would be waiting a year for Upamecano would put us in the same situation. However, for me the real issue is the serious lack of quality CB's in world football. While even fewer of them are actually available. Great teams are built on a solid defence. City looked great when Laporte or Kompany were fit, but struggled last season without them. Liverpool went from also rans to champions with the signing of VvD (arguably the best CB in the world atm) . Real over took Barcelona in part due to Pique's decline. Bayern spent huge sums of money signing Pavard, Sule and Hernandez to rebuild their defence.

If we want to take that next step we need to build from the back.

{Ed047's Note - definitely need to offload CB’s and that’s a definite weak point in the side.

GDS, which starting 11 do you think looks stronger?

GK: DDG
DEF: AWB, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles
MID: Matic, Pogba, Bruno
FWD: Sancho, Martial, Rashford

OR

GK: DDG
DEF: AWB, Upamecano, Maguire, Telles
MID: Matic, Pogba, Bruno
FWD: Greenwood, Martial, Rashford.

We don’t need Sancho, we have Greenwood who would tear up the Bundesliga if he player there.

We need to bridge the gap between our current front 3 and the supporting act. Sarr or Brooks will do that.

I’d rather strengthen the squad than slow down Greenwood’s development. Mason could surpass Sancho this season now that he’s a guaranteed starter.

We need a CB too, despite how many we have. Jones, Rojo and Smalling should not be considered part of the squad any more, I wouldn’t even give Rojo a number.

I agree the 2nd option.

I know very little of Upamecano, are we 100% sure he would be amazing for us? seeing as every centre half we sign is now ‘crap’ what makes people think the same wouldn’t happen with him?

Snappy,

Is it a first 11 game when making one argument and a stronger squad game when making another one? I think if we had Sancho and greenwood we would be stronger, that front 3 can’t play every game and we look weaker when anyone else plays.

GDS, that second 11 has Greenwood starting, but if that was from the second group of players then Sarr would have also been added.
Personally I don't think there is a huge amount between the starting 11's one is stronger defensively, while the other better in attack.

You are right, there is no guarantee that Upamecano would be a success, just as there is no guarantee that Sancho would be either.

I highly doubt Sancho would get 20 goals and 20 assists playing in the EPL every week.

It comes down to risk, Sancho for £108m plus huge wages and agents fees. Is putting all our eggs in one basket.

While Upamecano and Sarr would give us one EPL proven player and the arguably the best under-23 CB in world football currently. While still probably not spending as much as Sancho would cost.

Personally I have faith in Greenwood to have a huge breakout season this year. As such I don't see value in signing Sancho for the fees touted.

Did you really think I would put forward an argument based on media clicks?

You actually chose the same option I did.

Red Man, I knew what you were saying. Just pointing out that the whole media spin argument isn't a great one.

Humour, tongue in cheek. However, since when did we ever actually buy what we needed.
