This Cavani deal smacks of desperation.

If fit, he is a great player to have. Scores goals, works hard, top level experience. More ability in his small toe on his foot than Ighalo does (sadly, I really wanted it to work out for him) .

However, the issue is that Cavani has struggled to stay fit over the past two years. We needed a player to cover for Martial, yet we signed a player more injury prone than the Frenchman.

Poorly run and terrible decision making. Fingers crossed Cavani can stay fit, cus if he can he will be a good signing. But I have my doubts he can.

Fingers crossed too shappy but you are right. Desperate signing of a player that has been injured an awful lot over the last 2 years. Can't think of a 33 year old with a dodgy injury record that gets better with age.

Totally agree Shappy.
I will absolutely support Cavani or any other player when they don the red shirt.
But, this deal is really a desperation buy.
The guy has been available for almost 8 months and what has changed suddenly?

His injury record for last 2 years is poor. He hardly played last season.
Wages supposedly 250k a week and 10m agent fee (I'd say put that money to Telles deal and get that done. )
Haven't we learnt from Falcao and Sanchez nightmare.

Again just shows the lack of plan or direction from the club.

From what I've heard (not gospel) is that his wages are around the 190k per week, but he will get close to 250k per week as his signing on fee is paid in installments over the duration of his contact, bringing that up to around the 250k mark.

Any analysis in his career injury record?

{Ed047's Note - he lost 118 days last season with 6 separate injuries, longest one was 52 days with a hip injury also had calf and groin injuries that season.

Season before lost 106 days, 2 hamstring injuries and two muscle injuries. Longest one 52 days.

We need a quality back up striker to martial someone to give him competetion we have what looks like that exact player yet people are still dissapointed.

Cavani ain't going to play every game but he is a world class striker. 33 or not he is a class striker and will improve the team.

This deal would suggest that the Sancho deal may be off. As a free agent we could have signed Cavani any time after the window had closed (nobody else is stupid enough to give him a 2 year contract and pay the kind of money he’s asking for) .

Its a similar deal to spurs signing bale .

He played less in PSG last season, because they wanted to get rid of him. He isn't that injury prone as u make it and he does score goals. We now have another good option at striker position.
Is it the best possible signing? Ofcourse not. It isn't the worst either. let's see what happens.
What I agree on is that his wages are too high, but if he score goals, I won't mind that.

I seem to remember a lot on here turning their noses up at James Rodriguez when we were linked with him. Turns out he isn’t a washed up has-been.
Let’s see how this Cavani move goes before we all label him Sanchez II.
Our only option up top, aside from Martial, Greenwood and Rashford is Ighalo, having Cavani in the squad strengthens our options.

The more I think about this deal, the more it seems like a terrible attempt to placate fans.

Putting his high wages, age and poor injury record aside for one moment, he’s a player that we could have signed at any time over the last 10 months. If he was a player that Ole wanted, why has it taken us so long to sign him up. By all accounts he came very close to signing for Benfica earlier in the window and would have done so were it not for his ridiculous wage demands.

If he can stay fit, I think he could do a job for us but with agents fees and his signing on fee he’s probably cost us around £20m or so - which for an injury prone 33 year old is ludicrous. Factoring in his wages over two years (another £20m+) this is a huge risk and makes very little sense (especially when reports suggest that we’re only around £20m from matching Dortmund’s asking price for Sancho) .

I'm not slating Cavani, he has been a great player for many years and if he can stay fit he will be a huge asset to the club.

He offers quality and experience in an area of the pitch where our most experienced player is Martial who is 24 and has only played one season as a centre forward. Cavani can also play as a wide forward.

He isn't an awful signing.

What I take issue with is that this is clearly a rushed, reactionary move with little for thought.

If Cavani was a long term target then the club would have moved for him months ago. This highlights a lack of plan, of vision and of forethought.

They are only moving for him now in an attempt to cover for their own incompetence.

Shappy it won't be the first time we have made an opportunistic move in the transfer market .
Not every transfer needs to be planned 6 month in advance, things change quickly in football.
It all just seems like something else to moan about.
