I'm not being negative or a party pooper, but let's not get carried away with the result. We were pretty poor again for most of that match. Newcastle fell apart when we scored the second.
Granted, you can only beat what's put in front of you, and come the end we did deserve the win. I'm happy with the result and pleased for the lads, but really don't agree with the 'great performance' sentiment.
It wasn't until after Pogba and VdB came on that we looked half decent. It's amazing what happens when you bring on players that can actually pass the ball to a teammate! .
I understand why OLE wanted to keep things right and compact, but it is not playing to our strengths.
We simply don't have s good enough defence to invite teams onto us from the start. He needs to stop with the negative tactics and actually go out to win games, IMO.
Like I said, I'm not being negative for the sake of it, but despite being a comfortable win in the end, it was at best, a very average performance for the most part.
Overall though, a good and much needed result.

Betty I'd have to disagree, I actually quite enjoyed the performance and we could have had 6 or 7. The energy seemed up on the previous 3 league games and there was some nice slick passing and movement off the ball. Mata was impressive Bruno seemed to drift in and out of the game but did well and Rashford looked sharp, although we should be beating Newcastle its definitely something to build on and hopefully lift the mood around the club.

Betty, I was going to pop onto the live chat before kick off, but judged the mood and thought I'd leave it. Before a ball had been kicked, the knives were out over the team that was picked. I'm not going to get carried away over a win - most don't on here, if the number of posts after a win are compared with those after a defeat - but equally I'll not get too carried away after a defeat. There will be many more of each, for most teams, before this season is over.

I don't disagree with most of what you say Derby, as I said we did deserve the win. But up until 85 minutes it was another frustrating game for the most part. Newcastle just sat back after the 3rd minute, so IMO we could have showed a bit more ambition earlier.
I just feel our whole mindset is too negative - our strengths lie in attack, so we should play that way from the off.
We looked a lot better when Pogba and VdB came on. At least they can pass the ball forwards.
Like I said, I don't want to be too negative, but I won't be getting carried away with it.

We have lost 2 league games i think since February.
Due to unprecedented circumstances due to C.V. and no pre season we looked seriously under cooked for both of them .
Finished 3rd last season .
I personally think the doom and gloom for a few is over the top .
I enjoyed the game yesterday but each to their own.

Yeah Betty we are definitely to negative, I can never understand why we always no matter who the opposition set up with 2 holding midfielders. Especially now when you can fit the 3 of pogba bruno and vdb in the midfield with one holding midfielder. Mata still looks a good option against teams that sit back and let us have more of the ball. Ole won't change though and rarely ever changes the system mid game.

Corona affected every team Jred, let's not use that as an excuse, this tired and not fit excuse is embarrassing, we have been playing poorly up until yday, we are 14th, we've beaten a bottom 6 team as we should, we got whacked by a top 6 team in the last game, a good performance but let's not get carried away, we need not only a consistent run but to not fall apart as we do after every run, it really concerns me how we have accepted mediocrity as a good thing, the next set of fixtures, PSG, Chelsea, Liepzig, Arsenal, Everton will decide how this season will go imo. DVDB surely has to start week in and out now, surely Ole and co see that he and Bruno together are a class act, Cavani hopefully can come in and Telles hits the ground running, I am hopeful but I've seen many false dawns here and a win over Newcastle isn't going to get me believing we are going in the right direction under this structure in particular or under this management, yes, we all support our club and manager no matter what, that's how it should be but I feel there are long roads ahead yet.

We completely dominated, on another would have scored more. Its not perfect but is was a comprehensive performance and win.

I was waiting for the first "lets mot get carried away" post. Surprised it was you betty.

Nou, yes there was a negative vibe before the match, and that was due to the team selection. I did actually comment that we should still win, but if we did it would be in spite of. the team selection, not because of it. With the players we have, we should be going out to win games and be positive from the start. Not being forced into it when we go behind.
Jred, I wouldn't expect you to agree with anything, ever. You just keep looking through those rose tinteds and everything will be fine and dandy.

Betty your spot on there. Some will look to paper over the cracks.
Dvb has to start the next few games.

I agree with Betty, we were poor until the two subs came on. Good overall score, but it was nowhere near a great performance. I will say Ole made the right call with Maguire.

Why did we buy DvB then stick him on the subs bench?

Betty
The facts are the facts .
3rd last season
Lost 2 games since February.
I don't think its as bad as people like to make out .
Honestly I enjoyed the game yesterday.

I hope you like surprises then AJH!

The 3 late goals changes the whole demeanor and the reality of the performance. Yes it was better, yes we won and yes it was a well deserved 3 points and I am genuinely happy with that.

But I still don't think it was a great performance for the first 85 minutes, that's all. Maybe it's just me, but I get very frustrated with the negative way we approach games.
We have far better attacking options than defensive ones. Let them express themselves from the off, not be forced into.
Jose got pelters for the same let's not forget.

It wasn't awful. Neither was it great. It was though, a comprehensive win.

We win our game in hand and we’re only a point behind the ‘mighty liverpool’. You’d think we were in relegation. Yes the spurs and palace games weren’t good enough but let’s back the team and see how they hit back. So far so good.

Good post Betty. My sentiments exactly.

Good chance to play to our strengths now. VDB has to play.

I honestly don't think we played any better in the last 15 than we did in the first 75 . We just finished our chances . Lovely footy at times shame mata was offside for bruno goal, was a lovely move .
Then the bruno pen miss .
As for we looked better after the subs? Mata was thd best player in the pitch until he was taken off.
