Ed001, what's your take on the Donny van de Beek situation at United? Why can't he get a game?

On the face of it, it seems to be a unnecessary buy to be honest, but it does allow Ole to bleed him into the team gradually. It took Robertson and Fabinho months to force their way into the Liverpool team after they joined, purely because they took time to get the hang of the instructions they were being given. They would both revert automatically to their previous style of play once on the pitch, it might be that vdB is the same. He has come through at Ajax and only known one way to play, you have plenty of options in that position, so you can take your time and make sure he is fully ready to go when he does get starts.}

I think this has been overblown, you even had gary neville spouting nonsense on commentary about the vdb situation.

He was like vdb cost 40m so you would expect him to start even though it seemed to go over his head that bruno cost approximately 60, pogba 90m and fred 50m.

Even following that very spurious logic of just starting players based on their transfer fees vdb should be on the bench lol.

But seriously it seems like ole sees him as primarily a number 10 which is brunos position. Ole doesn't trust any single holding mid to play as a single pivot which would allow us to play two advanced mids such as bruno and vdb.

I remember bernanrdo silva taking a year of mainly sitting on the bench before having a standout season the following year. We have to give new signings time to settle if they need it, they can't all be like bruno.

tbf I've been fully on the Donny must play wagon but reading ed001 above maybe they are good, genuine reasons given he's not, nobody has said them reasons before so makes me think again but would love to see him play regular as he has changed the game for us a couple of times.

You have Bruno and Pogba to allow him to be eased in, both are neither on fire right now so it’s just a case of him waiting to get that chance in the Premiership.

Back in previous season all believed that we are ok but we need a player in numper 10 "to provide cover for Bruno and give squad depth". So you moan because we bought a squad player and (omg) he is a squad player!
DVB is a quality player and time will come. But unless we change formation or befome better than Bruno he will struggle to play consistent. Or maybe he will learn to play further behind.

But like I said no one has batted and eye that he isn't starting games .

I just can't understand the change in formation.
Bruno cut a frustrated figure today. The bloke is a winner. We won't win enough games under ole to compete in the league. He is too negative that sort of defencive disruptive play wins some games but not enough.
Dvdb will play regularly imo once he gets into the team. But we won't see the best of him if he can't play naturally.
