Tough game tomorrow. The reward for a win is huge after the great result in Paris.
So though selections ole again.
RbL have a few out so that bodes well.
I'm going he does with the 352 as i think it suits the players wee have and allows him 2 play 2 attacking midfield players.
Martial will start of imagine maybe alongside rashford perhaps Greenwood.
Looking forward to this game a win will virtually guarantee us to get out if not win the group.
Rbl are a good outfit so no easy task. Fingers crossed we play well.

Telles was not seen in the training sessions, so maybe we'll go with a back 4.

Really Trd?
Ive not read anything about an injury. Although he was not in the squad at the wkend.
Pity it would be nice to get him a run of games.
I do like the 3 at the back at the moment based on the make up of our squad and our lack of natural wide players. I think it suits the personnel better.
This is our strongest squad for years so lots of rotation options.
Looking forward to the game tonight.
Sadly we have become a cup team over the last 8 years failing to put I a serious league challenge. So cups represent our best chance of silverware.
We are a cup team so let's hope we make the most out of it.

As Troy Deeney made explicit, they will probably use the press to target Fred and his Teflon first touch. Will Ole play Fred or will he play someone in midfield with surer control and good passing skills?

Ken,

I think they will relax a touch, it’s a cup game, a draw with two what should be easier games to come.

I think 3 5 2 makes sense and the first goal is important. I think Pogba may start but if he is deep it might cause issues. I read an interesting article on Nagelsmann where he preaches two touch, Pogba deep May struggle with that. I will go 2-1 to us because the pressure is slightly eased in this game.

Rb are currently top of the bundesliga. i'm amazed that some of the most negative critical posters have us down to beat what is a very good team . i'm not sure how that ties in with the constant stream of we are rubbish post.

It will be a very tough game today we will have to be at our best . I win today would be a better result than beating PSG imo.

Jred,

You know the drill, make the expectations so high that we can only fail.

I would take a draw to be honest 4 points from the first 2 games would set us up .
A win and like Ken says that would virtually guarantee to get us out the group.

Agree with jred it would be a better result that Paris even though we are at home.
Who are all these posters that have us down for a win.

I am not afraid of Leipsig, they are a good team, nothing more nothing less, they are not great. I am going with 3-0 or 4-0.

Leipzig have one of the best CB partnerships in the world in Upamecano and Konate.
Excited to see how our attackers fare against them.

I would go with the same formation and team that beat PSG except Rashy rested for Cavani.

So dortmunds and bayerns cbs have better records so they must be the elite of the worlds best?

No they don't TRD. Konate who is my favourite CB is always injured. Its a shame because his runs reminds me a little bit of Yaya Toure . They are a good team but nowhere near the team some people think they are.

RB Leipzig is probably our toughest game of the group. The way they play with a high press and quick one or two touch football will cause us a shed load of problems. While they have arguably one of the best young managers in the game.

As a club they are very well run, with a level of synchronicity that brings together a shared vision of identity. Meaning that the scouts are looking for a very specific type of player, they bring in managers who fit the club philosophy, and everyone behind the scenes works together to work toward that vision.

It means they can lose a key player like Werner, and still be just as good as before as they have players who can step in and develop in a similar way. While the style of play is based on team play and not individual skill.

So unlike with PSG when they lose key players like Verratti or Marquinhos they don't have the ability to cover for them. While with RB Leipzig they can more easily adjust to the loss of a player.

The games against them will be our toughest in the group. If we can win then it puts us in a strong position, but we would be fools to expect a win.

Another test of selection and tactics for our manager. Let's hope he does as well as he did in Paris and proves it wasn't a one off. I just hope he doesn't pick Fred and Pogba in midfield because then we will lose the ball a lot in dangerous areas.

Fred is a tricky one. On one hand he is our best pressing midfielder, while on the other hand he is our least press resistant midfielder.

I think tonight might be a night for a midfield diamond. Leipzig don't play with a lot of width and focus on trying to overload in the central areas.

Matic, McTominay, DvdB and Bruno would give us the ability to make it difficult for them to outnumber us centrally and force the turn over, while Matic and DvdB are our least press resistant players bar maybe Pogba. However, his form is poor atm and he had a tendency to be lackadaisical in defending. Something we can't do against a high energy, hard working and tactically intelligent side like RB Leipzig.

I'm in two minds over Maguire, on one side his ability to dribble through the press could be very useful, on the other hand his lack of recovery pace could easily be exposured.

It will be interesting in watching a club with a plan.

And even more intriguing is the fact that Ralf Rangnick, the architect of the whole Red Bull football globe, is free to be hired at the moment.

He would transform our club, but it’s a no-go as he would only sign after being given a free hand on all things football related.

But just imagine what he could do with our financial clout 🤯.

I am surprised and disappointed that most of you have written this game off even before the teamsheets are out.

Is Ole the manager the best manager in the world? No.

He definitely has a long way to go in proving to us that he really has what it takes to be our manager in the long-term. But, I am never writing this club off. Especially in this manner.

Red-tinted glasses? Maybe.

As individuals, there is pretty much nothing that we do to change in which the club is run at the moment. I too am jealous of all the well-run clubs with the intelligent DoFs and backed up by efficient data analyst teams (Liverpool and Edwards) . But given that none of us can actually bring out a change in the wholesale structure, shouldn't we try to be a bit more supportive of the team?

I am not saying we shouldn't complain or critically assess the club. Just that we should never be writing them off in this manner.
