Pathetic performance, brilliant win. End of story.

Now a question to jred given that he knows us ( the ole not being good enough United fans) so well that he knows we were disappointed by the victory.

So jred, there has been a common theme to all your posts from the day we lost to Palace on the first day of our season and that is "we finished 3rd last season". What you conveniently don't mention is that we had 66 points, the same as the season before which is fair because we achieved our target of top 4. Now hypothetically if let's say we get 75 points this season but end up 4th or 5th, would you be satisfied or disappointed? And more importantly, should we, the other side be happy or disappointed?

If the above hypothesis holds true then that means that we have improved our points tally by 9 points by winning more or losing less but that also means that a team or 2 who were stagnant last year have improved more than us.

So sir what i am really trying to understand is the goal post you keep mentioning that we keep shifting.

You and i could simply be 2 parallel lines pointing in the same direction but with different thought processes, we won't meet but at the end we all want the same.

Pathetic is harsh Shan. Nobody was more frustrated than me as those on the Live Chat will attest. I’ve posted below and answered a couple of other posts, including chiding jred but answer me this Shan, what is it you want? More points, tick. More goals, tick. Fewer losses, tick. Higher League position, tick. Fast flowing entertaining football, cross.

So, is it style that is the issue right now as everything else is gong in the right direction.

I’m genuinely not looking for an argument, just trying to understand what you need to see to make you happy.

Top 4 has to be the goal every year regardless of the points you need. If we get 75 points but fail to get top 4, is that an improvement on last year, I wouldn't look at points to see if we have improved I would look at performances. We are still inconsistent, if this team didn't have Bruno we would struggle. Would another manager get this team to perform better, I think another manager would get this team to play as a team, rather than a bunch of individuals.

{Ed025's Note - i disagree GL, the aim should be to win the league every year for a club of united,s stature...you are not arsenal mate..

3 games in 7 days and it was expected especially against Wolves, against whom we struggle often.

2nd in the league with a game in hand. Reached a semi-final.
I say it has been a good month for us.

Ed25, we aren't at that stage yet. Winning the league has to be the end goal but we have seen 7 years of dross, just to get some consistency of finishing in the top four should be our next stage which sets us up to go for the league.

{Ed025's Note - you have to aim for the stars imo GL, this is man utd we are talking about mate and second best should not be the mentality to aim for, i think you have a good chance of the title this season and as a squad i would say you are stronger than liverpool certainly in depth..

Performance cross as you say, Tony - isn't that what Jose was ridiculed for? So why is it that we need to sit and praise Ole when in reality the performances have been similar?

Having said that, at this stage of the season, i am happy with the win no matter how it comes. Yesterday was perfect for me because we won.

Improvement is a relative term, Tony. For me, last year was not an improvement, it was just paper over the cracks because i was comparing it to the season before. Same points so that meant that we were no better but others were poorer. We were simply better than the poorer teams. A man with one eye named king in a blind kingdom.

This season, we need to be better than the rest but also, be better than the Manchester United from last season. That is improvement, more points and higher league position. For me, this is the season when we can actually win it. I can't believe it i am saying it but yes, this is the season. Weird season so what best than this weird team winning it. Liverpool have half their team injured, City are struggling, Chelsea same, Spurs still lacking that winning mentality. If Ole gets us to play as one, a team, then there is no stopping us. But if we finish second to a team that is better than us, then i have no complaints as long as we give them a run for their money. Ole has been here 2 seasons and he should have that authority stamped.

I don’t think Ole parks the bus, but the team are very inconsistent as are some of the players. Jose is just a mood hoover who will always put pragmatism first. Yes he’s a talented coach but his football is awful and he ostracises people.

I think a lot of our shared frustration is because we see some talent, we can see this is an odd season, and there are opportunities crying out to be taken. I got so frustrated last night, off the back of a good run, great performance against Leeds, good showing against Leicester, we looked flat. But then most teams are having a struggle right now so perhaps the wider issues.

I doubt Ole’s ability as a top line coach but there is clearly improvement this year from last year, the challenge is to make the dire performances the exception as opposed to very other game.

I don't think either that Ole parked the bus yesterday. That was not the case. We hear very often in Joses press conference to say that he didn't said to his players to defend so deep. Its the mentality the problem. When you are not coached to play good proactive football but counterattacking then you will find a good organised team like Wolves who don't give you space for counter attacks and you will do nothing. We did nothing like Spurs did nothing.
We could then see how Liverpool play against such opponents and how they break them down and you will clearly see the difference. The other day i was really impressed how they played against the double bus of Mourinho and i disagree with Jose that the best team lost.

Shan - you are talking from both sides of your . mate. This is the season we can actually win it! Did you think that was the case in September and October? And yet that has nothing to do with how the team is performing under Ole right now?
Ed25 - great sentiment but nobody has the right to be in the top 4 or in the title race. You got to earn it. I agree United should aim for that but that wasn’t and isn’t a realistic goal just yet. Dream it, sure.
Squad quality: with thesummer signings, there was more or less agreement that the squad isn’t good enough. Yet, now many players look better (like Fred) . Ole may have some role to play in that.

Shan - hope more of us get behind the team - who knows what will happen but try and enjoy the ride mate. After a last second win on a tired performance (not pathetic Andy for good reason) . even if Ole isn’t your idea of a United manager. should be easy to find some happiness.

We saw again last night that there doesn't seem to be that urgency in the team as if they didn't realise 3 points would put us 2nd. Chelsea, Arsenal, City at home the same, we didn't seem up for it .

Last season Chelsea slipped up 11 times when they kicked off before us, it looked at one stage is was us or them for 4th - not once in those 11 games did we get maximum points - as with last night ok it worked out but to me that shows a mental frailty.
