It seems we might miss out on Caicedo with other clubs involved. Fabrizio Romano on his twitter feed saying the player wants to join United but he is not our priority unfortunately.

Hope we don't regret missing out on him just like with Haaland.

Utd always fo things the hard way. Make excuses. The problem is that they want it all their own way.

If we don't move for him it is because he doesn't feature in our plans.

When looking at our current midfield options (Matic, McTominay, Fred, DvdB and Pogba) along with young players like Garner, Levitt and Mejbri looking to try and burst through in the next few years I do wonder how a player like Caicedo fits in.

From the little I've seen and read about him he is more a all round box to box player. When what we really need is someone who'll sit, shield the back four and give us a hub to work around.

That said we look like we are still interested in signing a 20 year old Sancho even though we have just spent close to 50m on Amad Diallo and Pellistri who are only 18 months younger than Sancho.

Sometimes it's almost like the people in charge have no idea what they are doing and just come up with a transfer policy on the fly.

There's always a need for a box to box midfielder, especially one who has the youth and promise of Caicedo. I agree that we need a holding/ shielding midfielder such as Ndidi. I believe that while Fred and McTominay are decent squad players, I do not feel that they are United class. Matic is an effective deep-lying midfielder but I fear that his age is against him. We have bought several young promising players in recent times but it seems that it is our policy to identify bright young players, such as Haaland and indeed Caicedo, allow them to be snapped up by other clubs and then buy them at exhorbitant prices.

Jodler, the problem is that you can only name 11 players in your starting team.

Young players need minutes on the pitch to improve. Look at Chelsea, they have a system of signing as many of the best young players possible then loaning them out hoping they come good and can then either be used in the first team or sold for a profit.

Players like KDB, Salah and Lukaku all sold off as they couldn't make it at Chelsea, yet have gone on to be successful with other top clubs. While they also have players like van Ginkel, Do Santo and Andre Schurrle.

You can have too many young players, all getting in each others way with none of them having the space and time to grow and develop into top players.

If you look at the clubs who are most successful bringing through many young players. It tends to be sides like Ajax who also see many of those great young players leave each year making space for the next crop.

We are interested in 20 year old Max Aarons, but with AWB, Shaw and Telles where would that leave Williams? And that assuming we sell Dalot. What about Laird or the two Spanish fullbacks we brought in from Barcelona and Real Madrid this summer?

People want to see us sign two CBs, but then with Maguire and Lindelof already at the club then what about Tuanzebe and Mengi and that's assuming that Bailly, Jones and Rojo leave.

I agree with Jodler. Although, we have done well to snap up some promising young ones recently we always seem to dither when our incompetent ones in charge of transfers feel their valuations are not met.

We recently signed Diallo for around 41m (21m and further 20m on addons) who has played only 35 minutes of first team football and we spent that amount of money just on his potential. Now, Caicedo who has already played more minutes and is an Ecuador international and looks a very promising player and wants to join us and we are not ready to spend 5-10m on him. And the excuse seems to be we are looking at other targets this month and he isn't a priority - total nonsense.

A lot of teams are in the mix it seems - Brighton, Everton, Chelsea, PSG and the latest club linked to him is Atlanta United the former club of Diallo. It wouldn't surprise me if he comes to one of the other teams in the premier league, adapts well and shows his potential and in 2 yrs time his price skyrockets and we are made to look stupid.

The reality is that we can't sign 2 or 3 players for one position.

So out of these three CM's who's your first choice, Moises Caicedo, Saul Niguez or Declan Rice?

Which one improves us to the point of challenging for the title?
