Several outlets saying Ole is about to be rewarded with a new 3 year contract worth 30 million.

{Ed014's Note - wow, that’s nuts!

That's madness.

{Ed077's Note - believe it when you see it. Media outlets have us signing 500 players every season. Hardly 5 come through the door. The board are in no rush to offer OGS a contract renewal and nor should they.
2 days ago the media outlets were linking Allegri to the Man Utd job. When you have to write 10-20 pages of "news" everyday, darts come in handy lol :-). OGS might get a new deal at the end of the season depending on how things stand at that point. Might.}

I don't get how that rumour/ news is nuts or madness.

I completely uncerstand if you feel like renewing oles contract as manager is not the right thing to do and the club should move on as we haven't made enough progress to warrant extending oles tenure but its not exactly the craziest thing to do,

When Ole picked up the team we were the sixth best team in the league and since then we have progressed to third best team in the league and are now on course to be the second best team in the league.

Surely its not out of the realms of possibility that oles contract is being extended to see if he can continue that progress.

Was always going to happen. They have restructured the club with Ole in mind, he is almost certainly going to hit the top 4 target.

I suspect we'll see Ole in charge at least until Christmas. He'll get a new deal and unless he struggles early next season and top four looks a pipe dream then He'll probably stay until March next year most likely.

Dog did we not finish 2nd the full season before ole took over?
He had us as low as 14th maybe he should have got the bullet then.
He will get his contract let's see if he delivers titles and trophies.
Surely he can't fail to win the el with the quality of teams left so he should break his duck this season and hope he builds on that momentum.

Ken, my concerns with the EL are that even though on paper at least we are the best team left in the competition. We have seen against AC Milan in the first leg and against Leicester last weekend that we are more than capable of just not turning up for a game.

While with a congested season and with Ole either not keen or untrusting to rotate the squad round fatigue will become more and more of an issue as the season reaches its final stages.

I am not convinced one bit we will win the EL this season. Every good opportunity we get we just seem to throw it away under Ole. We have good runs and pick up some good wins but every time it comes to the big crunch games we fail.

tbh if that and the prospect of the poor level of performances by lack of quality coming in, will shift me toward taking a year out from season ticket renewal for me and the youngun! its been a tough ride since 2013 but we are treading water with the bunch of clowns boots we have running the asylum and a 9-10 hour day with travel and the match to watch incompetence is starting to lose its appeal.

When it counts, Utd fall short. We were poor against Leicester and were deservedly knocked out of the FA Cup.

If we get knocked out of the EL, without making it to the final, surely that would be a sign to Woodward that Ole isn't capable.

Furthermore, with our tepid EPL performances, we could easily drops in April, as we have some very tough games. Fortunately there is an 8 point gap between 2nd and 5th. However, we once had a nice lead our City, for us to go and throw it all away.

Chelsea look to be organised very well under Tuchel. I for one, would not be surprised to see Chelsea finish above Utd.

Leicester have the luxury of not being in the EL and West Ham are no mugs and could still get a CL place.

A decision to award Ole a new contract will more than likely take place after the season has ended. Last time he signed a new deal, Utd went on a very poor run.

Hatter, I agree the time to offer Ole a new contract is when the season is over. However, we have amateurs in charge and they will likely make the same mistake twice. They just don't learn, they will keep making the same mistakes until the fans hold them accountable rather than allowing them to shift the blame.

I can not understand any thoughts of a new contract for Ole. The football is dire, his coaching obviously very limited. Even if you take the optimistic view that things are improving, there is still no need to rush into a contract that would mean a payoff should the penny drop, and the board see his failings. let's face it there is no worries of him being poached by another club.

inhope, you assume that the decision makers watch our matches. They don't, they don't understand football, just money.

They see results and nothing else.

Ole finished 6th, 3rd and potentially 2nd.

On paper that sounds great.

Woodward is focused on employing ex Utd players so we can return to the old Utd ways under Fergie.

We needed the best of the best when it came to the coaching staff, DOF and Tech director. People with proven track records.

Only time will tell.

Summer transfers are being discussed now I guess. Not just in the 3 minutes of the summer when transfers happen. Players / agents are unlikely to entertain discussing moving to a new club where the manager's contract is under review.

Woody's approach seems to be to do this stuff before the run in ti create stability and show that the club know where they are going.

Whether you agree with what they are doing is a different matter, but can't people see why it would be silly to go into the summer transfer window with uncertainty in the managers contract? Makes sense to me.

I said when the new structure was announced based upon who it was, that it was there to support Ole and I couldn’t see a senior experienced manager under it.

The club or should I say what appears to be Woodward has staked his position on Ole and has to get it right or I suspect Ed will be gone. So you can almost hear the panicked voice saying give him more time, so what if players or fans don’t all believe Ole is up to it, give him a contract and that means they know they HAVE to work with him and “support” him. It’s what Woodward did with Moyes. It’s madness to give Ole a contract now, how many mistakes must Woodward make to get the boot? He gave Moyes 6 years thinking it showed support, Mourinho a new one then didn’t support him. The key seems to be that Woodward and whoever is making these decisions think the answer to get support for a manager is to offer them a new contract. Amateur indeed.

Thing is when you look back the sense is that Woodward longs for the long term stability of SAF, where he can go about making money whilst the trophies just come in. The whole thing is an amateur operation from top to bottom like the Ed says. A new contract for Ole would just add another piece of evidence of incompetence in the jigsaw of Uniteds decline.

In terms of attracting top players having ogs on a long term contract would prove counter productive imo DB.
