I must say, I am surprised at some of the support this European Super League has got on this page. I guess it is easy to look for the positives when you support one of the teams that will benefit hugely from it. I wonder how Leicester, West Ham, Everton fans feel about this potential new competition?

UEFA and FIFA have received, and rightly so, criticism for their behaviour and decision making in the past and I am certainly not against a fresh new approach to help develop and improve Football and the fans experiences of football, but surely this need to be driven by an independent group, not owners of football clubs, who quite frankly have no connection, passion or commitment towards football as a global sport.

The fact that the owners of Manchester United, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona etc are the driving force behind this does not sit well at all with me and I think it will be a sad day that a handful of clubs get to dictate the shape of football.

I guess individuals who are supportive of this aren't old enough to remember when Deportivo were a club you wanted to avoid in the competition or when Newcastle beat Barcelona 3-2 or when a young striker called Andriy Shevchenko score a 1st half hattrick against Barcelona for Dynamo Kyiv.

the fact joel is vice chairman. will they use this money to wipe the debt off?

its a sham.

fair enough if they made another comp where everyone benefited but its not

let them play in this league but remove them from existing leagues.

I remember those things and you make valid points.

I think in particular the lack making into this new league on merit alone is very problematic. If they can resolve that, I don't hate the idea at all.

on the contrary ports.
I'm well old enough to remember all of those things. Let me be clear.
I do not support the proposals as set out. Primarily around the founding members having right of passage every year.
But I am very much in favour of a revamped European competition with qualification dependent on how you do in your domestic competition.
The esl is a good idea dependent on how it comes together. A compromise will be found. I don't like the strong arm tactics if you like but perhaps this was the only way of bringing all parties to the table. There is piles more money to be made as a result changes will happen and comprises will need to be made by all parties.
The current set up is not maximised for the big clubs and not sustainable for the small clubs so at the moment nobody is happy either except the few in the middle who are coining it in.
Something had to bring things to a head. let's see where the compromises are on both sides. This is not going to happen over night and it will be resolved and football will be stronger as a result. It won't be the same it won't be what I grew up with. To be honest football is now so far removed from what I grew up with its like a different sport.
Patience is the key to this. Lots of people with things to protect lots of people with lots to lose and Lots of people with lots to gain.
The right to automatic qualification for founding members needs serious review but uefa and fifa also need to realise that they are not the only show in town.
I remember when the epl started there where all the same comments. I hope its more evolution than revolution but change needs to come and it will. It won't come as proposed yesterday but they will find a hybrid model that is more inclusive.

I think this whole thing is going to blow up in the face of the founding 15 clubs.

I think the supporters in the main are appalled and the implications for the players of playing for one of these clubs could be significant if the FAs hold firm.

Sure, money talks but if the players are excluded from every other competition and they can't play international football then they have some serious decisions to make.

Half full stadiums could also be a reality. Playing Real Madrid then Juventus, then Barcelona has it's attraction but the novelty will soon wear off.

I think this whole venture is very short sighted. Lots of players at the top clubs come from clubs in lower leagues and this to me just bites the hand that feeds. There are better ways to spread the money around in football.
