I had hoped to come on here today and chat about something positive from yesterday- however, with the news the game is just an afterthought.

I had a conversation with one of my mates about our memories growing up watching united. I was born in 96 so I don't remember the treble, but we both agreed that the Champions League win in 2008 was probably the best feeling as a fan we have ever had. I still remember running about my living room like a mad man when Scholes scored against Barcelona in the second leg. I still remember the absolute awe of my grandad (who has seen them all from Edwards to Cantona) when Ronaldo scored the header in Rome.
At the time I took those achievements for granted, I thought we would always be at the top table and in champions league finals every year. Now that I am older I look back on those memories with so much fondness, so many games to tell my son (due in July. wish me luck) about when he is growing up. Roma 7-1, Barcelona in 08, the Madrid 4-3 and the final with Chelsea.
The same way my grandfather told me growing up about Munich, Jimmy Murphy and the Busby Babes. Football for me is about memories that we pass on to friends, kids and whoever. We all have a story I'm sure from growing up about the club.

I guess what I am getting at is, with this new proposed Super League we lose that. I don't want to watch us playing Madrid, Barcelona etc every other week. Those games are special because they don't come around often, usually when they do it is for big prizes on the biggest stage. I want my son to value a scrappy 91st minute win away at the likes of a West Brom, but also to cherish those special occasions and games like the ones I've mentioned. I want the feeling of winning league titles, the excitement of a title race. Will we get that in a closed league with no risk if we do rubbish? No chance. Will we make more memories like we already have? No chance.

Caolán.

{Ed014's Note - nice post fella and hope all goes well on the birth of your son in July.

Best days ever ahead if you in July Caolan. Cherish them. Best if luck pal to all 3 of you. Good Post.
Things don't be the same. As I said earlier the game its self never mind the media / money etc has changed so much since I grew up in the 70s its unrecognisable.
Things never stay the same.
I don't believe this breakaway will happen i hope they find some good common ground. I've no doubt they will.

Good post that mate. It make me feel ridiculously old though.
My memories of drinking and dancing in the street around Old Trafford when we won the treble will stay with me forever.

Good luck buddy. Hardest thing I’ve ever done having a kid, but far and away the best thing ever. Nothing competes. Not even 2 goals in Barcelona in 1999 which I was there for.

Liverpool fan here mate and fully agree with what you're saying. I'm gutted at what's being talked about here.
I've had ups and downs with Liverpool, seen some awful football and seen some glorious games too.
Same with you boys at United.

My little lad is 3 and I feel like they've stolen his memories of football before he's even made them.

That’s it Ashy, every one of us has a story or a moment that will stick with us forever. The feeling you must have had after so many years without the title, or Istanbul will never be the same with this ridiculous competition.

Last night Perez said no one wants to see games with these sides against the average/ smaller clubs. I’m not sure about other leagues, but I remember late goals at Ewood Park and other stadiums that led to titles. They still stand out now, that’s what football is all about. Imagine telling the fans packed in the away end that these games are pointless now.
