Looks like the footballing world escaped a Tsunami in the form of ESL. I was really dumbfounded on how quickly it all started and ended tbh. Seems to have really kicked some sense into these big arrogant people driving the idea of a SL especially during a C.V.

A better idea would had been to bring these big teams together as part of a C.V. initiative who could then play against each other every once in a while and any proceeds goes into helping the victims of the C.V. That would probably have made the fans respect their clubs even more and which would have been a great gesture to the footballing community as a whole.

{Ed001's Note - it didn't start quickly, this has been in the planning for years. The first attempt was that project bigmess they threw out a while back. This was just a second variation that they put out after the furore of the first version died down. They are doing it now so they can use the pandemic's financial effects as an excuse and claim to be trying to save the game. It is not going to go away while owners like FSG and the Glazers are involved, they will just wait for it all to die down and make slight changes to the wording and relaunch once more. They will keep doing it, again and again and again, until they wear down resistance.} Become a Patron!

Ed001, so it's not the end of this which is even more concerning. Probably they need to realize that too much of anything is poison. Where do you see this going in the end?

{Ed001's Note - I expect them to keep pushing it out there every so often until the ESL becomes reality. The only way it will not happen is if they are driven out. The problem is that UEFA are helping their cause with the way they keep trying to pacify them by making their competitions closer and closer to the ESL anyway. But at least with UEFA they will never want the clubs to withdraw from domestic competitions, while the ESL is likely to see the ESL being the only competition as the end game.} Become a Patron!

ESL as the only competition would be a disaster. Undermining domestic competitions would be a curse to football as a whole I feel.

Ed001, do you think that if footballing fans come together globally and oppose this, will that have a big impact to make these people drop the idea completely?

{Ed001's Note - yes. The fans have all the power. Sponsors will not want to be involved if fans are against it. TV companies won't want to show something that fans are not going to watch. So where will the money come from to make it work?}

Perez will keep pushing as he’s desperate given the state of Madrid’s finances. He seems to be in denial.

Ultimately if the English teams aren’t involved then right now it doesn’t happen. Look at the revenues by club and over the last 20 years you see the English teams rising and starting to dominate. If they seat out then I don’t see how it happens.

I hope it doesn't get to the point that fans have to get involved on a larger scale and that somehow the people who came up with the idea see sense and respect the footballing traditions and emotions of others involved in the game.

Ed001, thanks for your valuable opinions. Appreciate that.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome, not sure how valuable they are though!}

This is why the two Spanish clubs are so keen on the ESL. They are completely skint and are unable to stump up the cash for the players that they want to buy.
Perez is an embarrassment.
