I'm curious to hear where most of our regulars stand.

There is absolutely no reason why we can not have both imo but what do you all think.

Do you prefer coming a distant 2nd or 3rd with the odd cup win with the boring lifeless soulless football we have had for the last 5 or 6 years.

Or would you prefer to watch an expansive entertaining team that attacks with intent and pace and consistency with an all or nothing mentality.

I read a good article this morn on why ole is right for the glazers. Its because he has no interest in winning trophies, that's for vanity. He just wants to keep the status quo as it is and try and achieve top 4 at the expense of entertainment.

Ole is a little Jose without the trophies to back up his antifootball.
Jose's treatment of Shaw = oles treatment of vdb.
Similar results similar cup runs similar spend.

{Ed014's Note - personally I’d like you to stay at the first option. 😉

Best you remain crap whilst we are! 🤣

I'm sure you would ed014. Usually the United manager is a universally unpopular man with every other club without exception but I don't know of any rival supporter that wants ole fired.

He is winning more admirers from outside the club than he is winning from inside it. 🤣.

{Ed014's Note - or wants him to replace their current incumbent.

He’s currently my favourite ever United manager I’ll be devasted if he goes. 😭

He is not going anywhere sadly so we are all set for another year of oleball.
I just wish merciless and co were as honest about him as they are our owners.

I got a bit of stick a while back when I said we should be focusing on playing attacking, entertaining football rather than on trophies for the time being.

Purely because it gets the fans on side and makes every game unmissable. It also helps set up a framework for success. I think we went down the short term route with Mourinho, as he did deliver trophies, but at the price of a short term appointment.

It's been hard to stick it out watching the dross Moyes, LvG, Mourinho and Ole have served up, but we can live in hope it will get better one day.

Across the last few years I've realised I miss the entertaining football we used to play slightly more than seeing the team win trophies.

Gary Neville said something interesting the other week that you can be a good 2nd or a bad 2nd. Right now I'd say we're a bad 2nd. We've won games but it's not been through great performances a lot of the time, it's been through gaining points from awful games of football such as Burnley last week, Leeds yesterday etc. There's also been some games where we've turned up for 20 minutes to comeback and win but the rest of the game was dreadful.

The current United side is still probably the best to watch across the last decade. That says a lot about how bad some of the football we have played has been. We currently have some entertaining moments but rarely very entertaining games.

Progress is what I like to see Ken. It's the same when I'm watching a youth player. Someone who can improve year in year out has the better fundamentals than someone who explodes on the scene.

The reason I gave Jose time was because he delivered everywhere he went. There was normally a reward at the end of it. The means do justify the end. But that's a dangerous game as Jose has found out. Without the trophies It's not going to be enough.

The type of football we play is only an issue when it's going nowhere. We'll look back on some of Fergies teams with rose tinted specs on.

It's about the journey. Its about creating memories. I want to know come the end of the season we'll be in with a shout for some trophies. The night before a big game tossing and turning. Enjoying the build up, the anticipation. It's all part of the theatre of football.

There's many reasons I think for Ole to be sacked. But the one that stands out were his comments earlier on in the year. 6 points behind City with 45 to play for and he's chucking in the towel. Is that a man who's going to take you on that journey? God No!

He only has ambition to stay in the job as long as possible and that doesn't serve us well in the long term. If you're not trying to win the league, then what's the point?

His defenders often say "I don't think he will win us the league" then what's the point?

The football we play right now is a killer because we're also going nowhere. And if we're not in it to win trophies for out or egos, then I would like to watch something more entertaining than we are served up.

Klopp took over Liverpool and said he'd win a league within 5 years. That's a winner who knows what he wants. This Man Utd team echoes Ole as a player, just happy to be apart of the big boys.

All I want is some excitement come the end of the season.

Good post mumbles. Yes ole has a perenial substitute mentality. Just happy to be there. Dull as ditch water. I can't think of a less inspirational manager or set of coaches.

Mumbles, therein lies the problem, you assume the club is trying to win the league.

Do you think that is the true aim of our owners and the board they have hired to run their club in their image?

Where is success measured by the people that matter at our club on the pitch or on the spreadsheet?

They have shown time and time again to invest only what is needed to get us into the top four and keep the club in the "sweet" spot in terms of revenue. When we achieve that they stop spending, because our aim is 4th, not 1st.

A change of manager won't change that. So for all Ole's faults, sacking him will change very little at our club.

Option 2 Ken. There is no point to option 1. It's like asking if I want to watch the same rubbish film every week. Who would want to do that?

26 Apr 2021 15:41:45
Ken, Ask Arsenal fans whether they are happy with good football but finishing 10th?

If you want great football but be nowhere near winning anything then Eddie Howes Bournemouth or Graham Potter's Brighton have been good watches.

It hasn't stopped them flirting with or actually being relegated.

The truth is as United fans we have been spoiled and nothing will be good enough bar winning the title with 100+ points playing fantastic football.

The problem with sitting on the perch is eventually you get knocked off.

Ken, I can put my hand up as someone who has defended OGS due to the progression I could see (unfortunately the longer we go on the more I see this as more hope than what is actually happening from a playing perspective) .
One of the biggest issues I have is how pragmatically he has us set up, this comes from the double pivot to support the defence and also the lack of support for the attack from the full backs.
Secondly is his reluctance to make substitutions, the amount of games that they either don't come or come so late they appear to be just to waste time. He appears to have little faith in the bench (ironic when you consider he made a carear as the super sub) or fear that changes he makes will have a negative impact rather than positive.
I don't believe the club will make any changes at the end of the season and we can only hope that we can bring in some players that may change some of the mentality, DM that will allow us to play more aggressive and CB to comand the back line. On the statement about trophies, I think this is actual crap from him and a statement used to deflect to give him time. I believe that ultimately he does want to win trophies but the pragmatism he has will not put it out there for people to beat him with it.

Shappy, I don't care what the owners want. If Ole and the team can top the table after 19 games, then why can't we top the table after 38?

Regardless of whether or not the owners actually have ambition to win the league is not important. We should have a manager with an ambition to win the league. He is supposed to know the club inside and Our, but constantly misses the big picture.

City can only take 6 points from us. Likewise Liverpool. They were the two teams we finished behind last year.

It's the mentality that is the issue. I never said "we should be winning the league" but I certainly think we should be putting pressure on this City side coming into the end of the season, instead of playing our first league game at Elland Road in 18 years with our slippers on.

Excuse after excuse after excuse made for him.

26 Apr 2021 18:23:31
Mumbles that's a fools argument and you are better than that.

You know full well being top at the halfway point means nothing.

The point of a season is to test a teams durability over a longer period. Anyone can have a good couple of months, but can you be consistently good for 8 months.

The reality with our squad is that most fans agree we are 4 to 5 first teamers away from having a first 11 to match City. But the squad options see a huge drop in quality.

You can't expect us to keep pace with City with the squad we have. While the owners don't show the ambition to spend what is needed when it is needed to push on and assembly a title challenging squad.

Until they do it really won't make a huge difference who is our manager.

We thought Moyes played bad football, then we had LvG, then Jose now Ole. None play great football. The next manager won't play great football either. We don't have the know-how or ambition to bring in great choices. We could have had Klopp, but Ed Woodward said come to United it's like Disneyland.

You don't convince the best football people without a clear vision, and not one of Mickey mouse.

26 Apr 2021 19:19:14
15 times in 28 seasons the team top at the halfway point have won the league. Play everyone else once in the league. More excuses from you.

My point being, we have a coward in charge who couldn't even stomach saying "we'll see what happens and take one game at a time". The manager of Man Utd threw the towel in with 15 games remaining sitting in 2nd place.

17.) 26 Apr 2021
26 Apr 2021 19:44:21
I'm surprised some fans are accepting mediocracy.

18.) 26 Apr 2021
26 Apr 2021 20:25:50
Back at 2018 we also argued that City needs 3-4-5 players. A left back, at least a center back, one holding because Fernadinho is not going to be any younger, a cover for Aguero and personally right back cause i don't even rate Walker as high quality player. The same year they won the league with 100 points.
So even Pep hasn't the ideal squad and in every squad you can always discover "holes" and need of strengthen. So yes for every manager there is the excuse of not having his (ideal) squad.

Correct Mumbles

We got to top position and Ole waved the white flag.

Shappy says the owners don’t show ambition. However, that stands with the manager as well. We have the emotional sentimental option that supporters like Shappy will keep going for the owners. Saves them money and hassle with Ole at their wheel, so well done Shappy.
