so is this going to be 5th time lucky.

have we learnt from our previous mistakes

will we be clinical and will we play a fast tempo game.

i think we have enough quality to win the tie in this leg but you never know what united will turn up.

ole needs this more than anyone and getting to the final and winning it could be the catalyst needed for both the manager and players, some of which have not tasted a trophy yet.

fingers crossed for tonight.

I think these are a lot worse a team than we faced in semi last year. We have enough good players to win this one.
Did you not say you had no interest in this comp bolger? Shappy and a few others said they had no interest in it.

I'm not sure which way this will go. I think a lot is made of our Semi-final losses, which is a measure of the expectancy to win this club has.

Klopp for example has has never made it beyond the 5th round of the FA cup and has been knocked out of the EFL cup 4 out of 6 times before the semi-final stage. Yet little was said about it even before he won the league and the UCL.

Ole has two semi-final losses to Pep's City in the league cup, one was a shade unlucky. The way the Europa league finished last season the players looked burned out and we lost to the team that has won the competition more times than anyone else (Sevilla), again it was a shade unlucky.

The loss against Chelsea in the FA cup was a poor show and we just didn't turn up.

Ken, if the UCL final is between City and Chelsea how much would you celebrate winning the Europa league?

Would you rather win the UCL or the EL?

The FA cup or League cup?

The EPL or the Championship?

I'll be happy if we win it, but its not a tournament any top side starts the season hoping they win.

I said that I'd prefer us to focus on winning the league (at the time we were very close to City) and that a league title would be better than a EL win. As the season wore on and City charged past us and opened up an unassailable lead then we might as well focus on other competitions, especially with top 4 more or less sewn up.

{Ed077's Note - we did start the season in the CL. I will leave it at that.

We're favourites for sure and I think there's good reason for that. Roma aren't great. We've played City, Chelsea and Sevilla in previous semi finals who are all considerably better than Roma.

We should win this relatively comfortably in my opinion. Emphasis on should.

i am pretty sure i didn't say i had no interest in this comp ken.

i do agree it is lesser than the UCL but it has been given more importance since they added the winner to the UCL

as ed states above we did start the season in the UCL

tatical errors and team choices in the later games cost us going through imo, but we are not ready for the later stages of the UCL yet

we should win this and like i said winning your first cup can be the catalyst look at us after winning the fa cup in 1990.

to add ken this compared to the ucl is like the league cup is to the fa cup but i would take any trophy to start with and i'm sure ole would as well.

When we played City in the league Cup we sat back and played defensive football. We showed no desire to go out an win.

I only we go for it and play as well as we know we can when we are on song.

What I can't stand is the build up "the lads are up for it " " there s a buzz in training, we all want these big games " etc etc etc. then we go out and can't string 3 passes together.

We need a trophy!

Shappy I will celebrate winning the el as its the only comp we can win this season.
I won't celebrate being 2nd but know the consolation of getting a cl place is some comfort.
I hope Chelsea win the CL. City winning it won't bother me one bit either. I don't tend to look into my neighbours garden too often with jealousy. I would rather if city didn't win it but so what if they do. They will deserve it.
You know my views shappy.
We enter 4 comps every year. In order of priority for me they are epl cl/ el fa league Cup. I'd rather win any of those in a season than win nothing and finish top 4. I am aware that not everybody subscribes to that view. But for me its about winning titles more often than not that means we will be playing good attractive football and being entertained. (Not always the case but mostly) then top 4 will look after itself.
You wanted us out of those comps to focus on the league and securing top 4 that's a mentality I don't understand but up until fergie retired you have only seen success as a united fan. Your generation know no different and have different attitudes.
Of course I'd rather win the cl to the el but we are not in the cl anymore so its irrelevant to me as a united fan this season. El is our level this season so we should be aiming to win it from the moment we enter it.

My bad bolger a lot of folk feel that way it's not a criticism.
I'm old school I'm afraid. Titles before top 4 for me all day.
Winning breeds winning as you say bolger I'm sure ole would give his left nut to win this which is why his stupid quotes irk me. This is Manchester United we want to win everything and should be busting a gut to do so. We should have no fear in saying so and make no apology for it.
