I'd love to know what goes on in the dressing room at half time and what happens before the match?

Yet again we only react when we go a goal down. Although having the trait to come from behind is a great one to have, soon that well will dry up.

Pogba has been playing well out on the left, but that's also where Rashford is most dangerous. The evolution of this team is going to require some tough decisions from the manager.

A quality DM could do the work of both Fred and McTominay. This needs to be addressed. Martials time is up at the club. Both Rashford and Pogba are more effective on the left than he is. Do we stick or twist with Mason on the right?

We'll finish 2nd and deserve to. But the excuses made this season for the lack of ambition within the squad are not acceptable next season. The mindset must change, the team must improve if we are to challenge.

How would you improve this team? Or where do you see we can improve?

Sign Rice as the holder, sign a top CB, Varane if available, sign a top top CF. Move on Fred, Jesse, Jones, Mata, Matic, Martial

Play Pogba and Bruno centrally, Rash left, Greenwood right. Get Rashford fit, even if that means a long rest, integrate Diallo and DVB.

A top CB along with someone like Rice means we can play Pogba centrally, assuming he is still here. A fit Rashford is a huge asset, he’s been injured for almost a year now.

Our stats are good. Fewest defeats, 2nd highest scorers, most points from losing positions, good goals against, but the evidence of our eyes tells us this team is massively inconsistent, often within a game.

Team spirit looks strong, we are resilient, hopefully we win a trophy. If we buy well then we could make another step up. However, if Pogba leaves and we buy badly, then who knows?

First and foremost the club needs a world-class centre forward. I hope Cavani stays for another season, problem solved. If not, Martial/ Greenwood are not the answer.
Assuming the CF situation is resolved one way or the other, I expect the Sancho deal to be resurrected. He gets pigeon-holed as RW a lot, but plays LW a lot too. There's room for him and Greenwood in the same XI, and across 60 games, plenty of time for all of them including Diallo. One wonders where this leaves Martial. He adds very little other than the one worldy he puts in a few times a season, and you can almost hear a collective sigh every time he starts.
Midfield needs work. DVB isn't working out, and there is no need for MCT and Fred to start. I think we'll end up with 3-4 players, but I wouldn't be surprised if CB and DM aren't the household flashy names that keep getting banded about.

For me there are two clear issues with this side.

1. Defensively we are a shambles, full of individual mistakes, giving away too many silly goals.

2. Control of the midfield, we have players who are good at running around and getting stuck in. But what we lack is guile. The ability to get on the ball and dictate with it. All our offensive play goes through Bruno, we need a Carrick type midfielder to sit and recycle possession and dictate the tempo of the game.

In my opinion we will struggle to bridge the gap next season in terms of challenging for the major prizes. We still have several players who should move on as they are rarely involved or not good enough (Grant, Romero, Jones, Dalot, Lingard etc) . We also have a few who are involved a lot but need an upgrade (Fred, Martial, Lindelof) .

The above is a lot to think about before even looking at replacements.

Keeping Cavani and spending the big money on a CB and DM would be my choice but again we do need a right winger and there's once again Sancho speculation picking up.

Based on the impact C.V. has had on the finances in the game, I'd be absolutely over the moon with a summer where we sign 2 first team starters (any of DM, RW or CB) and keep Cavani.

Maybe we should get Leicester to scout for us. They seem to pick up some top midfielders.

Leicester have snapped up another hugely talented midfielder in Baboucary Soumare.

‘Defensively we are a shambles’. 3rd lowest goals against and fewest losses. Not saying there isn’t room for improvement but shambles is a bit much.

Maguire having a good season.

I think we might see Maguire's best football in the next few games😂

Tony while our record isn't terrible don't tell me you don't hold your breath every time the ball gets into our defensive third.

We are far from convincing defensively. Yesterday for example Lindelof turned far too easily for their goal (albeit the finish was from a tight angle and was unstoppable) .

The game against Roma in Italy showed our true issues. DDG making 12 saves, and still conceding 3 goals. While a further 10 shots from Roma were either off target or blocked.

Our defensive record is based on playing 2 CDM's to shield the defence and getting our fall backs to play in a narrow almost inverted fashion to further shield our CB's. Committing 4 players on the pitch to cover for 2 CB's is frankly ridiculous, and highlights just how much our CB's need their hands holding to make it through a game.

Against Roma we played 1 CDM, in the first half we were poor, but it was the second half where we nearly blew a 4 goal lead. Once Shaw and AWB came off and we had Telles and Williams come on our defending was shambolic. While Williams and Telles aren't bad full backs, their natural inclination as a full back is to play wide and overlap, which isn't our way of playing. Like I said we play our full backs narrower to cover the centre of defence. With Williams and Telles playing their natural game in a wider position and with only 1 CDM we saw just how ineffective our centre backs are when the team isn't built around covering them.

Make no mistake we will never win a league title with any of our current CB's playing as a first choice option.
