Just watched the Obama/ Rashford bollox. Apply to football boy rather than a geezer trying to keep himself relevant for future book sales. Sucks!

I'm an American, Obama is a clown and Rashford should do better than dip his toes in that mess. It's why I can't watch most of american sports anymore, I'm tired of politics and SJW stuff getting inside of it. Just play.

People criticising Rashford for being too focused on helping others instead of focusing on football genuinely baffle me.

For Now Rashford need to focus on his horrible finishing. He has life after 35 to do everything he want on. charity and social welfare note.

Looks like someone didn't get enuff scooby snacks! I am baffled beyond belief.

this is really shameful fellas! a kid trying to do good things and you can't even tolerate that? and he is one of our own.

@rodio yeah because obviously starving children can wait another 12 years for food! how dare he put even an ounce of his energy on anything other than footie!

I think Rashford gets a lot of stick on here that is a little unfair in my opinion.

While it's clear that recently his performances have dropped somewhat I have seen people saying he wouldn't get in their Sunday league team. Which is hyperbolic or foolishness.

He's been carrying a few injuries and he has not been given the rest he needs. He played most of last season with a fractured spine, playing with pain killing injections. Then he had hardly any summer break before this season started, and has played most of the games this season with more pain killing injections.

While it's fair to say his performances have dropped on the last couple of months we also need to put them in perspective of the whole season.

Rashford has 30 goals and assists this season. Only Bruno has more. Yet if you take away all penalty contributions from both players then Bruno has directly been involved in 2 goals more than Rashford all season.

Yet one is hyped up and the other is clearly being under appreciated.

Shappy

It may be heresy but whilst Rashford is doing many good things away from football, his standards have dropped. Is it just injuries or has he also lost focus due to his other commitments? Even a 1% drop in focus can make a major difference. We pay him a lot of money and I wonder if SAF would have pressed him to get focussed on football, I sense he might. After all remember what he did with Beckham when his focus waned.

Red Man, I think it's fair to ask the question of whether he has taken his eye off the ball or whether it is the injuries/ fatigue.

Personally I think it is the latter.

His charity campaign started before the conclusion of last season, and ran into the start of this season.

During that time when it would certainly have been the most distracting his form was good.

Like I said 30 goals/ assists this season AFTER the kids free school meals charity work.

So I think it's more likely that the injuries and general fatigue has just caught up with him.

While some fans might feel that players need to be 100% focused on their careers. Personally though I think it's vitally important that they have a life and things to focus on and unwind with outside of football. Years ago that was drinking and gambling. Now it might be launching a fashion label, playing golf, or starting a charity or business. Probably in the grand scheme of things these pursuits might be better for them.

@Shaps - but the post is nothing to do about football. People here are ACTUALLY complaining that he is wasting his energy on trying to help people rather than practicing finishing so that we can be entertained more! So that we can go to the local pub and say we won! because that's more important and to hell with people who are suffering!

Beckham? people are comparing Rash and becks now. WOW. Just when you thought you have seen or read everything. WOWOWOWOWOWOW.

Raconteur stop being so aggressively judgemental. Who are you to consider that any opinion or viewpoint contrary to yours is just plain wrong and to be publicly ridiculed. Have your opinion by all means but remember it is but an opinion and nothing more. Back off.

Shappy what does his decision making on the pitch has to so with being injured?
Not passing the ball when you can or bumping into defenders at high speed is the problem. He is being selfish.
I never judged his pace, work rate, strength, where I could understand he could have a problem playing injured.

Trololo, have you ever tried to compete at sport or even just work while in pain and potentially restricted in movement physically?

It slows your movement and thinking time by a second or so. At an elite level those small margins are often the difference between breezing past a player and giving them a second to get across you and block you off.

Like nearly all forward players his confidence levels will also impact his game. High in confidence and things come naturally, relaxed and easy. Low in confidence and the second guessing starts, you try and hit shots harder or more rushed. You make decisions to take players on rather than make the pass because you are determined to force yourself back into form.

With Rashford I think his injuries caught up with him, that impacted his form, which brings his confidence down with further brings down his form.

Plus then there is the added pressure of it happening at the sharp end of the season where the pressure and expectations to win are highest.

He just needs a little time off.

I’m a huge Rashford fan and have defended him regularly, but his form for the last half of this season has been poor and he was dreadful in the final. He should have been dropped or rested if you prefer but for some reason he is getting picked when he really hasn’t deserved his place.

However, what he does off the field is phenomenal and has no impact on his footballing ability. To equate the two is lazy, footballers have a lot of spare time, if he chooses to use his to raise millions to help hungry children then he should be applauded.

I'm 100% with AJH on this.
He is doing fantastic charitable work off the pitch and for him to have had conversations with Obama is imo a wonderful thing. Anything that raises the profile that leads to positive action for the issues he is campaigning for is truly commendable imo.
I think these conversations were post season i'm not sure so its irrelevant to his displays.
Personally I think his form fell of a cliff and his confidence suffered when he was shunted around the forward line right and centre to accommodate pogba on the left. His form dipped badly.
His contribution was huge in the 1st half of the season when pogba was injured.
He is not quite 100% but its up to the manger to take him out in that situation.
I hope he gets through the euros without injury and he comes back stronger next season.
He has some really good attributes but has lots he can improve on. He cuts a frustrated figure at the moment doesn't look happy. I don't think I would be if I was him either.

If only the chairmen of the Premiership, La Liga etc had some of Marcus's qualities ie empathy, social awareness, honesty, what a better sport and maybe society it could be.

The guys class, he's struggling with injuries and form, just like every footballer has at some time. He'll know that and will want to make it right.

Disgusted by some of the posts above.

Rashford is an incredible person, performances have fallen a bit but as far as I'm concerned, I could give a hoot if he's not the player we all want him to be. He's bleeding feeding starving kids 🤦‍♂️.

Of course I have Shappy (the work thing, not sport though) . I have around 20 people depending on me and my performance. Everything is important and everything is to be done in a hurry.
I understand what you are saying, but then it is up to the coach to bench him for a while. Also, you don't know 100% that he is playing under injury for so long.
For people saying some comments are atrocious, no one comments on his off field work, but on his on field performance, which is very bad for a year or so.
Also, Shappy, it is not a decision made in a second or so, I was watching games where he had 5-10 seconds to make a much better choice, and he just didnt. He is selfish on the pitch and that's the truth.

Redman - There’s a slight difference between turning your focus away from football to sell underwear etc, and doing it to feed starving kids.

Given SAF’s commitment to socialism, I think he would have appreciated the difference and had nothing but praise for Rashford.
