Mason Greenwood has withdrawn from England's provisional Euro 2020 squad due to an underlying injury, his club Manchester United have confirmed. ‘Believed’ to be a groin injury.
Really sorry for the lad but every cloud and all that. At least he won’t be aggravating the injury.

I'm sure I'm not alone in being delighted for any of our players who take a full summer break to give them the best chance of being at peak fitness for the start of next season.

Rashford needs a rest, a minor tweak that means he has to pull out would be very helpful.

I am on the fence with Club v Country.

I played for a successful youth team and then was good/ lucky enough to play for County and then picked for East Anglian Sunday youth squad.

What a privilege it was to be picked for them, never got to play for East Anglia but it was a dream above my club games.

It was never my dream to play for England always Utd as it is the same with my son who would rather win a champions league with utd over a World Cup win for England.

{Ed014's Note - wow, I genuinely can’t believe that BR. I’ve no doubt you’re being honest but just find that incredible.

With 014 here. I’d have rather lifted a World Cup with England had I followed through with my playing days and gotten anywhere.

Rashford should also withdraw if the "injury" is genuine. End of next season he will have played 2 years with that "injury" without rest. Excuses will continue 🤣.

Would be best if the United players just withdraw from the Euros, ain't going to win it so might as well have a rest and come back fresh to win the league next year.

14,

I can believe it as I know a lot of united fans who are the same but for me playing for your country has to be something to strive for to prove your standing in the game. The people saying the players should all drop out and concentrate on united don’t get it at all, playing at the Euro’s and World Cup for your country is a high honour imo and the players must be gutted if they miss out.

While undoubtedly the quality of football is higher in the UCL, the fact that the world cup only comes around every four years means that even a player who is playing at the highest level from 18 or 19 will likely play in a maximum of 4 world cups during their career.

Mason Greenwood will be 21 by the time the next World cup comes around. He is an exceptionally gifted player playing at the highest level at a young age.

That'll make him 24/ 25 at his potentially second world cup, 28/ 29 by his third and 32/ 33 by his fourth.

The reality is most players might have one or two tournaments in their left time where they might have a genuine chance of winning it.

That is why for me winning the world cup with your country is still the ultimate.

Remember it was only 20 years ago that Beckham effigies were being hung outside pubs, I can see why players maybe don't have the same attachment to the national side they once had.

I find it odd that he withdraws today. The players were most likely told the squad yesterday.

Pogba can go to the Euro's, with a bit of luck and a lot of Kante doing all his work for him he can have a good Tourney aand put himself in the shop window.

Perhaps the club knew he wasn't going to make the cut and pulled him before he needed to face the public exclusion. Left that one for Jesse instead.

Utd over England every day.

England is for lower league fans and Southerners.

Remi,

He withdrew on Friday, the press have got a lot wrong and been kept in the dark about everything, it’s refreshing. Well, everything apart from the fact Lingard wasn’t in the squad, wonder where that leak came from?

When the squad was announced and the sky sports news presenters were shuffling around trying to find out what had happened it was hilarious.

Thanks.

Would love to know what excuses rash needs to make. He got plenty of goals and assists last year.
