I watched an interview yesterday with former Manchester United keeper Ben Foster which gave a little insight into the potential issues in our goalkeeping department.

To paraphrase Foster said that it doesn't really matter if you are first choice, second choice or third choice, the important thing is about knowing your place. It allows you to relax and play your game, while it means you know what is expected of you and allows you to prepare appropriately.

Unlike outfield positions ALL the keepers work together to and help the first choice keeper prepare for the match.

He feels that the current situation with two keepers fighting it out for first choice just isn't sustainable, an has probably contributed to BOTH Henderson and DDG having less then stellar seasons.

I thought his insight into Tom Heaton interesting as well. Superbly technical keeper, great understanding of the role and good communicator. Sounds like he might be a very shrewd signing.

He said that he would expect one of Henderson or DDG to leave this summer, the issue is that he feels the club will find it difficult to find a buyer for DDG, but that clubs are queuing up for Henderson if he becomes available.

Reports today which backs up ed002 from some time ago that we are willing to sell Henderson. Reports of him being a bit of a big time Charlie and have a higher opinion of himself than most others.
Watch this space. Makes sense to me as ddg is a much better keeper than him.

Ken you make Hendo sound like Arrizabalaga there. Where as I do agree DDG is currently better than hendo, he certainly is passed his peak where as hendo is yet to hit his peak.
In this regards, which of these 2 do you see as the future of utd in the keepers department?

Ken. I'd be a little disappointed if we let Henderson go. Personally I think him and DDG are currently pretty similar, with maybe DDG a shade ahead of Dean currently.

However, Dean is very much in the ascendency, with DDG steadily declining. While maybe not giving the full picture I am 100% confident that had Henderson been in goal for the EL final then we would have won the penalty shootout. That's on Ole, even if he wanted to give DDG the final, when approaching a shootout he had a keeper who has conceded his last 40 odd penalties on the pitch and a keeper with a near 50% save record in penalties on the bench. I said at the time in the live chat that we should bring on Henderson before it goes to penalties.

That's enough about Foster for me. It doesn't matter if your first second or third choice. You know your place. Bad attitude right there. If your a keeper all that should matter is being number 1.
I don't see Henderson being in the top 5 keepers in the world ever.

How can you be 100% confident on Henderson saving a penalty, how can you be 100% confident that we would have got to penalties with Henderson in goal.
I am 100% confident that if Henderson was in goal for the final then he would have made a huge mistake and cost us the game, that is how daft your comment is Shap.

If you want to look at Henderson's penalty stats he has faced 19 penalties over 6 years and 8 of them he has saved. Only 5 of those penalties have been at senior level and 3 of which he let in. So at senior level he has only saved 2 penalties. I have no problem with Ole going for experience on this occasion.

I think you could have made a better argument if you said that if Ole had made a substitution before the 105 minute, then I am 100% confident we would have won.

Mbd, ddg short term, then we will find a new keeper p.

I don't know shappy. Henderson is imo only slightly above average. Not going to be a top top keeper imo.
Looked OK at Sheff utd but lots of keepers look OK at poor teams.
He has been pretty poor in our 1st team. Never going to be our long term no1.
Get him sold while he has good value and stick with ddg until we need to pursue a better option. Ddg is still a very high class keeper albeit poor at saving pens🤣.

I said the same and get pelters. Henderson arrogance became a problem. There was no reason to have 2 keepers fighting for the numper one.

Well, people need to really remember how DeGea very badly struggled with the physicality and the aerial prowess of opposition teams and he still does. He would never had made it at OT if some of the people on here got to be the manager at that time.

It’s a tough one for me, whilst I don’t think Henderson will become the keeper everybody expects him to, I do agree that DDG is well past his best. However they both to me are at a similar level. My worry with Henderson is his shot stopping, whilst my issue with DDG has always been his lack of command of the back line.

Personally I would try to find buyers for both and buy Oblak. However that is extremely unlikely.

If we change keepers then we should go for Oblak otherwise keep DeGea.

We hype Henderson because he is english and if he wasnt english no one would be shouting for him to replace DeGea.

A lot of what Foster says is hardly news. Never in club football can 2 top class keepers be kept onside, its just a different position and mindset to the rest of the team- If Ole has sense he will decide quickly now before one of the keepers decide for him and make him look weak (er)

I remember years ago coming on here in DeGea's first season when many were calling for him to be shown the door and questioning his ability. Back then I backed him to go on and be a great GK, as you could see that the ability was there 100%, but he was a kid and nervous, was in a new country and in one of the most difficult clubs around to be a keeper, as many past keepers have found out. I honestly don't feel it the same with Henderson.

I think he is a decent keeper, but I think he will end up at a mid table club in the coming years. He won't get close to the level that DeGea has in his career, and for that reason I would stick with DeGea this year and sell Henderson.

Concentrate on quality CB, CM and RW first team players this summer and then maybe replace DeGea next summer along with Cavani and Martial if his injuries and form don't improve this coming season.
