Can anyone explain exactly how messi just won the ballon d'or? Surely lewandowski deserved it as he's been sensational again for Bayern. Ronnie finished 6th so I'm sure he's a happy bunny also!

{Ed014's Note - is that the trophy awarded by an allegedly corrupt organisation who are allegedly happy to take back handers at the drop of a hat…now let me think ??

It’s just so obvious now Ed…it’s a political trophy rather than being awarded on merit. Who can honestly say that messi has been the worlds best player in the past 12 month?!

{Ed014's Note - it really is a joke, both VVD and Lewandowski have every reason to feel like they’ve been mugged off

Just bonkers. If Lewy and Kante retire without winning it, its frankly baffling.

{Ed0666's Note - baffling….? it’s corrupt!

Is as pointless as the world club trophy. I stop taking notice of it a while ago.

{Ed0666's Note - you lost interest about the time you stopped qualifying for it I'm assuming? ?

Had to be Salah or Lewandowski. I love Messi as a player. One of the best I've seen. But not this year.

If messi had any shred of dignity he's refuse it :P.

It's s popularity contest and is not awarded on merit.

The fact that he won a competition with Argentina this year after failing in 3 previous Copa finals and 1 World cup final is just the excuse they needed to give it to him.

With him now at PSG he'll need to win the UCL to be in with a shout of winning it in the future. So this was probably realistically the last chance they will have to give it to him.

56 appearances in total, 41 goals and 17 assists.
Won the Copa America with Argentina.
Won the Copa del Rey with Barcelona.
Top scorer in La Liga
Most assists in La Liga.
and that's a sh*t season.

Sim, if it's based on goal output then Lewandowski scored more goals, even if you combine the goals and assists. Lewandowski contributed more.

So if it's based on completions won, Messi won 2, Lewandowski won 4.

By Messi's ridiculous standards he had a poor season that was saved by winning something at international level.

Lewandowski had a much better season, contributing more to his team and winning more.

Of it is based on performance then they awarded it to the wrong guy.

Shappy - You sound like a school boy in a playground. if he only won 2 and i won 4 that makes me better than you.
I am just stating the facts and those facts are correct.
What ever way you look at the facts they are still massively impressive.

Do I Sim? All I'm saying is you can only use his achievements last season as the basis for him winning if no one else surpassed those achievements.

Lewandowski did surpass those achievements, so to say Messi deserved the award based on those achievements is frankly absurd. As clearly Lewandowski achieved more.

Shappy - He scored ex amount of goals in a league that they (Bayern) win by Christmas.
There's no competition in the Bundesliga, It's absolutely embarrassing the amount of points they win it by.
Robin Van Persie could come out of retirement and score 20 plus goals for Bayern it's that easy.
I'm not saying that Lewandowski isn't a great centre forward but let's not get carried away.

Sim, Barcelona finished 3rd in a two horse league in Spain last year. Both Madrid clubs finished above them, while Sevilla finished just 2 points behind Barcelona.
