My take on Woodward:

Typical short term thinker who initially did a great job maximizing cash flows by exploiting the United name, which he did nothing to create.

However if you take the average increase in value of the premier league clubs over the last 4 years, United is a straggler having lost 25%+.

Given the relative decline in value off the field and dreadful management on it, I am of the opinion that Woodward has been an absolute failure. I remain astonished that he held on to his position for so long. He is an overpaid accountant and brand manager whose responsibilities should never have extended so far. Good riddance. and let us hope that the club can recover its lustre after his disastrous tenure.

I saw an interview with him on Mutv on a pre season tour years ago

The club probably wanted a bump less changeover. The reality is we in for a bump ride.
