I never understood why United sold Alvaro Fernandez. A young promising left back. Could they not have loaned him out to Benfica? I know they had Shaw and Malacia but, come on, a blind man could have seen his promise. Baffling.

Sometimes players don't want to wait and will push for a move to get regular playing time depending on who is ahead of them and its in the interest of both parties to part ways. No one really knows the details and happens at all clubs. Look at Palmer at Chelsea.
We have sell on and buy back clauses on most of the guys we have moving. Some develop further and some don't. Pellistri which is another player you were very keen on is finding it difficult in Greece and hardly playing. Mc who many here wanted gone year after year is having a great start in Napoli. It cuts both ways.
It all part of being a big club and having a major academy. Would not lose too much sleep over it. Shaw's injury is the reason this is not getting airtime and easy to point fingers.

To add to Alvaro being sold I was also surprised to see a young lad go who played pre season and looked good.
Bruno Fernandes on Maxi Oyedele's United’s exit:
“I think he was always one of the players that everyone at the club thought he would be one of the ones coming from the Academy into the first-team.
He has great qualities, he's a great kid and really humble. ”
Looked like he had something in pre season, flogged off by ETH.

I wasn’t “very keen” on Pellestri but did think he deserved more of a chance than he was given and was binned off when ETH wanted £85m Antony. That went well didn’t it.

Time will tell with Maxi obviously but he had 2 loans at Altrincham and Forest Green and only got minimal minutes and games for each, he then ended up going to Legia Warsaw so the top teams weren’t queuing up for him. I’d trust our new team in charge over his mate Bruno Fernandes, nice of Bruno to say a few good words about him though.

Red Man, I was Surprised at Max Oyedele going too but he wanted to leave for more playing time rather than wait.

Yes Maxi was not one I was annoyed about, surprised more than annoyed, I thought he looked good in pre season Annoyed about Fernandez when we have no left back at all until Amass is ready, madness.

I remember Ten haag addressed that too and he was told that Malacia and shaw were closer to returning than they actually were.

To add
The buy back clause for Fernandez is reported to be €20m after selling him for just €6m a few months ago. If we pay €20m and reports suggest we are thinking about it, or Benfica sell him for a nice juicy profit very soon, someone’s head has to roll.

Maxi is not good enough Imo and would get swallowed up in the pl. He did the right thing and so did we. He went for 300k guys. Pellistri same thing, it sucks but it is what it is. Hardest positions to play for at United are the wings and forwards given players who have played there before and the expectations.
I read we have 17 mill buy back clause on Alvaro, if they think he is the right solution going forward they will buy him back. In the meantime more interested about players on our books like Shaw and malacia and hopefully seeing them back playing.
Bruno always praises everyone here now or who has been at the club. He is very liked by pretty much everyone.
If you want some real news we may be buying another 6 next year or evn sooner :) )

Gomes went for the same reasons. If an individual thinks they're is a low chance of career progression where he is he is right to move.
Can't wait forever.

Also contrary to urban myths all signings this past summer, ALL were led by the new leadership. ETH had a say but many people involved.
So hang the good, bad, ugly, great and however they turn out on all of them and don't pick and choose.

Why does some one's head need to roll? On that basis the city leadership should all be sacked because palmer seems to be a top top player and they let him go. He would probably cost close to 80/ 90 mill today.
Real has done these deals for many years where they buy back players for a lot higher than they sold them. Why are you always looking to hang someone for anything.
Players leave clubs all the time, clubs move on and so do the players. It is not a crisis mate, move on.

The fringe / youth players often look like the better players in meaningless pre-season games. It's their chance to impress, probably their only chance. The more senior players still have their heads in beach mode.

If your wrong decision cost the company you work for/ run €14m, when it could and should have been prevented, would you expect a warm welcome in the boardroom? If it was one of your senior staff, you would have to deal with it. Materiality and 14million is pretty material.
It is theoretical because it hasn’t happened yet, but the fact is we sold a left back good enough to start for a club like Benfica, and to be considered by Real and Barca, when instead playing makeshift because we didn’t judge the situation with Shaw and Malacia properly. Whose head should roll depends on the decision process and advice. We would look ridiculous. Accountability has to be part of this and you should know that if you run a business.
City don’t make many mistakes, rectify them when they do. Palmer looks a big one, but they also bought a few full backs as well.

Every club in football wins some and loses some on transfers depending on who you talk to. 40% to 50% of transfers actually don't work out for various seasons and based on your logic there will not be anyone left to sack in the industry.
What did phillips and nunes cost city and how many minutes have they played. Phillips is gone now but Nunes been there 18 months almost.
How often is Darwin Nunez starting for Liverpool. He is one of their record signing and playing second fiddle to a guy they signed for half his cost.
some of the chelsea players look like great value and some look like an absolute bust given what they have spent on them. its football you win some you lose some.
I can keep going and going.
Finally, which journo said we are looking at buying him back. Is it ornstein, jacobs, romano or just bs on X from random people. Its a good story to make the rounds given our left backs are injured.
We have a sell on clause so either way we are covered.

Palmer asked to leave as he'd been struggling to game time, and with the likes of Haaland and Foden (at least) ahead of him at the time it seemed a fair valuation. Guess he got the last laugh. City always struggle to keep their 'reserve' striker (Jesus / Alvarez), they're never going to displace the viking then it's a scrap to displace the golden child Foden.

Chelsea took a chance on palmer and it looks a good one. They also let Mo Salah slip through their fingers. Big clubs make big decisions and some work out, some don't.

They lost kdb because Mourinho did not think he was ready to play and give him the minutes he wanted. The point is it happens everywhere and why the drama.
Real Madrid bought back Fran Garcia after selling him with a buy back clause. The stories about Madrid being interested is just a wind up story imo and our fans are so easy to bait. They are zeroed in on Alphonso Davies. So with mendy, garcia, davies assuming it happens good luck to alvaro getting minutes if he ever went there.
Personally I would go all out and see if we can get Davies next summer or even this jan as he is in his last year of his contract.
