Is Wednesday Utd's biggest game in 14 years?

They've been abysmal all season and ridden their luck in this competition, but then again Spurs have been really poor ss well.

Whichever team wins it will be a bit of a travesty.

I just hope Utds luck can hold one last time .

Why would it be embarrassing? Bone fide qualification. Winning something to qualify is better than finishing 5th or even a distant second.
A disastrous league campaign but despite a crap start we have been the best team in the comp.
Spurs have done well also and whoever wins will fully deserve their cl spot.
Great rewards come with it. So I can't understand anyone's thinking that we would be better off not in it.

Next season's performance in the Champions League will determine whether it's an embarrassment or not for either team. As for this season, as poor as United and Spurs have been domestically, they have seen off the best of the rest of Europe's qualifiers, including Bilbao, a qualifier for next year's Champions League.

It is crap that so many teams get into the “Champions’ League by “back door”. It has diminished the competition immensely. Cup winners from all European leagues should go into the cup winners cup in an old school way and Champions into the Champions league. Reduce the number of games overall.

But if that the rules then so be it. Whilst the doors are open then take advantage where you can. Why wouldn’t you?

Doesn't mean it’s ideal though.

Let’s allow pass backs as well and go back to 2 subs on the bench. The game has evolved, European completions have evolved, your suggestion just wouldn’t work in this day and age. Our top teams are power houses because of their forays into Europe, nobody is agreeing to hardly any teams being there again. Maybe teams could win the CL beating Club Brugge in the final again, them were the days.

It’s all about money…. But saying that some of the best games this season have been in the champs league, the one we are in and the one Chelsea are in are total crap, so many poor poor teams, you really only have to look at the final to see that, ok one poor team can get to a final, but two shows it’s bit of a joke.

Like people that refer to Rasmus goal last year in Europe all against shockingly bad teams that would struggle to stay in EPL.

The fact that two teams in 16th and 17th place are in the “Champions’ League is farcical.

It’s losing its prestige in my very humble and old aged opinion and adds to the number of Ganges that so many complain about.

We didn't win the league the year before we won it last 2 times. Maybe we should scratch them from the record books as we were not champions.
9 of the 32 in el will play cl next season so can't be that bad.
Psg only scraped through the league phase.

I guess in it's defence and to shoot down my own criticisms at the top of the thread, it's called the Champions League, not the Champions of the Prem League, so effectively can encompass any team that wins any competition it cares to include. But a bit like the plans to expand the World Cup, it does dilute its stock somewhat IMO.

I think the opposite spenno a comp including the best 4 or 5 teams from the stronger league is a better comp than including the likes of Linfield salmon or shamrock rovers because they won their national league.
It doesn't file the comp it makes it stronger.
The intl one is different that does dilute the comp as you are adding inferior sides to the draw not superior ones.

As much as I loved being in Barcelona in 99, no, we shouldn't have, imo. But as champions many other times, our chances would have been good for a couple of wins anyway, playing just against other champions. Just rename the thing. It's not fooling anybody. It's a European super league in all but name.

If Utd win against spurs they qualify for Champions League. We would qualify by being the CHAMPIONS of the Europa League - which we only qualified for by being CHAMPIONS of the FA Cup. Which happened the year after we were CHAMPIONS of the League Cup.

Not many clubs more worthy in my opinion.
