130hrs to go and whilst things have taken some wild turns on social media the fact remains we've still not signed anyone since Donny.

Being linked with Dembele whose got all the talent in the world but has only played 75 times in 3 years. he's modern day Darren Anderton aka sicknote!

I don't see how his glass-like body would cope in the freezing rain sodden environment of Northern England in winter.

God only knows what the highly physical nature of English football would do to this most fragile of players!

Steer well clear Utd.

{Ed047's Note - thanks RF I know GDS will be chuffed as he was looking for an update on how long was left in the window the other day.

Bong, bong, bong another hour has passed and still no Sancho. Bong, bong, bong, another hour has passed and still no Sancho.

rinse and repeat until the close of the transfer window.

Bong, bong, bong another hour has passed and still no Sancho. Bong, bong, bong, another hour has passed and still no Sancho.

YAWN.

Keep it up realistic fan. Updates are appreciated.

Ed,

I was mate, I was wondering myself exactly how long was left, now I’ve got to work out when this was posted and take a few hours off, nightmare.

The last week of the window is always fun on here, sure there is plenty going on behind the scenes.

Does calling yourself ‘realistic’ mean that your opinion is the correct one and the rest of us are either too positive or too negative? Does make me laugh.

{Ed001's Note - and by the time this is posted you will have to work it out again. What fun!}

What new updates were provided?

29 Sep 2020 11:15:40
Less than 156 hrs to go and still no more new signings.

The most efficient signing I've seen us do in years was Donny and that still took 3-4 days to complete.

No way is Woodward going to pull off both Sancho and Telles in 6 days!

We could get Sarr if we throw £40m at Watford but why do that?! From what I've seen he's talented but very raw. He's going to need coaching and time to develop. He's not going to walk straight into the 1st team and make a difference to our final league position.

I'd rather we focus our energy on developing Elanga who looks a fine talent and is a player we already have. No need to spend £40m just to then spend years developing Sarr when we could adopt the same approach with Elanga but for free!

Buy Sancho or an experienced alternative (Costa or Perisic) who can walk straight into the 1st team and develop Elanga for the future. Don't waste money on Sarr.

Players like Costa and Perisic are available for good reason. Both would cost a lot in wages, neither have ever played in the EPL, while Costa has a terrible injury record and Perisic primarily plays on the left.

Short term solutions are not a worthwhile investment. We either get a player who doesn't work out, sits on the bench for a year and takes a huge wage. Or they do work out and we are left next summer wondering do we spend money on a 32 year old who fits the team or do we spend on a younger more long term option who might not.

People look at Bayern as a success story of signing older players on loan not wanted at other clubs, with Rodriguez, Coutinho and Perisic all considered good options. Yet all three were really only squad depth options and not first choice, while none were considered such a success that Bayern turned their loans into a permanent deal.

A loan option only makes sense if the club are sure of securing a deal for Sancho next summer. If not then we have potentially an expensive loan signing and still be left with not knowing who to sign next summer.

This summer if we sign a LB and a RW then that is in theory at least two positions we don't need to look at next summer. Allowing us to focus on a CB, ST and a CDM next year.

If we sign a loan player then it just muddies the water and means we have another position we need to address next summer. As we have seen we generally tend to struggle to get more than three deals done a summer.

If we can't sign Sancho this summer then the best player available to play on the RW position for us is Mason Greenwood. 17 goals in his debut season, and our best finisher. He will only get better as the season progresses. Just seeing the jump in his performances pre and post lockdown. At his age the learning curve is steep and the amount he can improve happens quickly.

However, if Greenwood is going to be our first choice RW then we need a back up/ rotation option who offers something different. Considering the lack of width on our right hand side due to AWB not being an offensive full back and other options we have for that role generally prefer to play more central. Then signing a wide player who can stay wide and stretch teams on the right would strengthen the options the manager has available to him.

While there is a lack of quality in the first team in keys areas, last season we fell short due to a lack of depth. Too many players had to play too many games while the options that did step in aren't good enough.

While DvdB and Sarr might not be first choice this season, they are significantly better than having to rely on Andreas Pereira and Jesse Lingard.

Having those two mean we can rest players without fear of losing games.

2.) 29 Sep 2020 12:29:04
I watched Sarr in the French league and he has a lot of talent. He would be a really good addition provided he is coached to bring out that potential. Big question mark is whether Ole and his team are capable of coaching him.

3.) 29 Sep 2020 12:43:01
Id say that's a resounding no Salford but time will tell.
So far as far as i can see the only player that has imoroved in the last 18 months is Mariah and that's pretty debatable imo.

Dalot no awb no maguire no lindelof no shaw no pogba no mctom no fred no james no rash no. ole and he merry band of coaches have not imoroved any of them so i don't think they will do it with sarr either.

4.) 29 Sep 2020 12:52:45
We have until the 16th to sign Sarr.

So if we don’t get Sancho in (who isn’t bothered about playing for us), the amateurs still have another 11 days to sign Sarr.

Prediction: Telles over the weekend and Sarr the week after.

5.) 29 Sep 2020 13:19:42
While we might have until the 16th to sign Sarr the cut off for our UCL squad is the 6th I believe. So if he isn't signed before the close of the international window then we can't name him in our UCL squad until January.

6.) 29 Sep 2020 13:39:24
That's true Shappy. It would be fitting for the amateurs to do that.

7.) 29 Sep 2020 16:22:56
Didn't we buy Dan James to improve him and have one for the future? What would be the point getting Sarr for the same thing?

8.) 29 Sep 2020 16:47:28
Different positions TopBom. Why have 1 winger who we can't get anything out of when we can have two?

9.) 29 Sep 2020 16:48:19
Dan James looks like a kid that won a competition to play for Man utd every time he plays. Absolutely mad that he's starting games for this team.

10.) 29 Sep 2020 16:55:45
Ah but we’ve all decided he’s rubbish TopBomin and want a shiny new toy. His many coaches actually do coach these days?

11.) 29 Sep 2020 20:48:32
How many hours now? 🙄.

28 Sep 2020 14:59:34
Roughly 176hrs until the transfer deadline. No way is Woodward getting Sancho and Telles over the line in that time.

The window's been open since 27th July yet here we are on the edge of October with the window shutting in a matter of days and we've still not got our main transfer target nor have we solved our glaring defensive problems nor have we shipped out the waifs and strays accumulated over the years by the various dross that has managed us.

Beggars belief!

Alex Telles I expect to sign in the next couple of days. It's an easy win, a tap in. He is a highly rated player, available for a fair fee with no real competition for his signature. Even the amateurs should get that deal over line.

Jadon Sancho isn't going to happen. Accept that now and you will save yourself a lot of upset come deadline day. The simple fact is that United aren't prepared under the current circumstances to pay the asking price and they expect Dortmund to drop it.

In reality Dortmund have a top class player who has three years left on his contract and who could be sold for at least what they are asking for this summer next year if not more, considering that there will likely be more competition for his signature next summer.

Simply put Dortmund won't sell for less than €120m and United aren't prepared to spend that much. If Dortmund were prepared to drop their price or United prepared to pay what is needed then Sancho would already be a United player.

I think United will make a last grasp bid, get knocked back and then move on to another target.

Maybe a loan with an option to buy next summer. So as to leave the door ajar for a bid for Sancho next summer. However, my view is if he does not come this year then he never will.

2.) 28 Sep 2020 16:49:14
Who cares . Once the window shuts hardly anyone posts on here anyway. We should all really be more concerned if league 1 and 2 players can feed their families. I bet Sancho couldn't give a hoot about anybody in league 2 or their kids😞😞rant over.

3.) 28 Sep 2020 16:59:31
What makes you think clubs will have the finances to pay £120m or more next given the fact fans are not going and not looking like going to games any time soon. Clubs finances next year could be a lot worse than this season.

{Ed047's Note - I’m sure I heard or read the other day you are losing something like £110 million in gate receipts with Arsenal not far behind on £95 million.

If correct that’s a big hit for both clubs.

4.) 28 Sep 2020 17:04:45
I still expect us to sign Sancho. We’ve gone with the cheap option for lb and midfield, it makes sense that we’re saving our budget for that big signing, Sancho. Expect him to be here soon.

5.) 28 Sep 2020 18:33:56
Match day revenue for a season is about £110 million, so if crowds are banned till next March then maybe using the apparent £100 million we have in cash reserves to plug the hole seems more sensible than buying a player.
I would have no problem in not signing Sancho and letting Greenwood go on the right wing for the year with Anthony Elanga as back-up.

6.) 28 Sep 2020 20:49:57
Shappy thinks he's an insider with some of the speil he spews on here.
I expect to sign Alex Telles in the next few days 😂😂.

7.) 28 Sep 2020 22:22:30
shappy i can see thm ballsing the telles deal up. they have already had a stupid bid knoced back. the price is reasonable in these times.

8.) 29 Sep 2020 10:46:59
DanJames, oh yeah, I'm clearly an insider. Shhhh though, you'll blow my cover.

9.) 29 Sep 2020 20:35:09
Yeah Dan or should i say maze 😁😁.

Agree with all of that DLIB. great post mate.

Pogba slows us down and should be sold plus I think his career owes more to his social media presence than his talent - but to be fair to him he's had C.V. and the effects can be long lasting. Ole should know this and manage him accordingly but then Ole is utterly inept and wildly out of his depth so it doesn't surprise me one bit that he keeps playing an obviously struggling Pogba.

We need to throw millions upon millions in the direction of Leipzig, whatever it takes to get Upamecano. The same for Telles. We have the worst Utd defence I've seen in 30yrs yet want to splash £100m on a winger!

Chasing Sancho is like shopping for a jacuzzi when your roof has blown off. only an idiot (or Ed Woodward) would contemplate it!

Amz mate we could sign Upamecano and Varane and we'd still finish outside the top 4 as they'd be coached by the most inept Utd manager of the past 40yrs! My nan's cocker spaniel has more tactical acumen than Ole. His sole qualification for the job is that he used to come off the bench and score some goals for us in the previous century! The club is rotten in all departments top to bottom.
