Considering the rumours of respective interest, I wonder which of McTominay and Fred would be the best option to remain.

Personally, I'd rather Fred remained because -
A. He's a natural left-footed midfielder who provides decent balance from the bench.
B. He puts himself about more than McTominay and has better application with it.
C. McTominay, being a United graduate, represents a better option for sale given the FFP rules.
D. Given the high-press, high-energy approach preferred by ten Hag, Fred's actual style of play is far better suited.
E. Age being a factor, there is less sale value to Fred than his actual worth, whereas McTominay is younger and would naturally bring in a greater fee.

So, for me, Fred stays.

What are your thoughts?

Id prefer both to leave with amrabat and mainoo taking their squad positions. However if 1 does remain I think Fred suits eth style better and would be more beneficial if the 2.

I think if we get a decent offer sell both.

We have Bruno Mount Casemiro Erickson Hannibal amd Mainoo in the 1st team squad.

We have issues with FFP that mean we cannot spend more yet.

We are looking to bering in a DM and possibly an AM if we can make sales.

Neither McT or Fred i see as being good enough.

Any transfer fee helps the FFP situation as does clearing their wages. FFP is to be balanced over three years so paying them affevts not just this season.

I look at Ten Hags United as a project and his project ia currently hampered by us paying fees and wages for players i don't think will be part of a team that will challenge as they are not good enough.

I am prepared to accept that the squad may be light in a position or two if it helps us be able to make the moves it takes to compete again for titles.

On the basis that selling these two allows Ten Hag to bring in the player he wants for his system then i say sell.

Don't think there is any chance fred stays, he has 1 year left I think and won't get or want a new contract. It is his time to go.

Of the two, if I was held at gunpoint, I'd keep Fred just for his smile. But I concur that the two components of 'McFred' have come to the end of the line. Mainoo seems a decent graduate replacement for one, not convinced by Hannibal yet who is very rash and just another haircut at present.

If it’s true that any further incomings are dependent on funds generated through outgoings, then SM is the obvious choice to sell first as he’d bring in twice as much. Neither are good enough for where we aspire to be though, not even as squad players.

I don't think either stays DB, but as you say they may just wait for a year to lose Fred before who goes to a new home in the desert.

Replace Fred, who has one year left and is 31, with Amrabat. Keep McT but swear to never play him in defensive midfield. Best case scenario we get a decent fee for him and get Kudus to take his place.

Pretty sure Hannibal will not be at club next season.
There is a strong possibility of him joining Luton on loan or the possibility of sale is not something to be completely excluded.

How long is SM in contract for?

Until 2025 with club option of another year.

I'd sell Fred and keep Scot.
He's not a defensive midfielder but as a box to box midfielder he has lots of energy and has goals in him too. Good back up in my opinion.
