People are suggesting the squad is light but as we have a Manager known for investing in and developing youth, I am hoping some youngsters get a fair chance this year. In particular, Johnstone, McNair, Wilson, and Pereira. I know Depay and Marital are young but they are already established 1st team players in other leagues.

The 4 youngsters I have listed all have huge promise and we need to give them opportunities. I would have included Janizaj but he has been shipped out on loan (no idea why) so my hopes may not be fulfilled. As some have said this is a good team and a good squad but we have a could gaps. Let's see if anyone can step up and stake a claim.

Personally, because we didn't buy a CB i think McNair will get the chances he got last season. Pereira also, but sadly i don't know if Wilson will get a chance.

I agree completely, lvg likes working with younger players because with their inexperience, they're more likely to hang onto his every word and buy into his 'philosophy'. Therefore he can mould them into the sort of players he wants i.e disciplined, intelligent and ball possession orientated.

But the janujaz decision baffles me. Why play him in 4 of our first 6 games and then decide he's not good enough when he hasn't looked any worse than the others. Additionally on loan to dortmund is even more baffling. With aubameyang kagawa mikhitaryian and reus as their front 4, there's probably less chance of him making their team than ours.

There was a time when sending young players out on loan was intended to make them ready for the first team. For example Beckham at Preston. I can't think of anyone in recent years that has been sent out on loan and then established himself in the first team. What is Johnstone's current position? No3? No4? VDG has shipped out most of the highly regarded young players in the last year. It saddens me, but maybe we are deluding ourselves as to the quality of our youngsters or the scouting system needs to be overhauled urgently.
