Multiple reports that Harry Maguire has now changed his mind and now wants to join West Ham on LOAN! their good start has probably helped but why would we ever sanction this, no funds in for a replacement and still have to pay him. Harry wants his cake and eat it if true as he'd get playing time, keep his England spot but not lose out on wages. He should have taken the deal the first time round.

This was inevitable.

Tim, I think we have a few players that aren't first on anyone's list, but maybe they'll look desirable come deadline day.

can't see it happening. we are already thin at the back. he had his opportunity and for whatever reason it did not happen. straight buy deal or he stays i think.

Mc Guire will be sold by end of the window without doubt. Possibly McT goes too replacements will arrive, and hopefully a striker comes in, because it will be a disaster going into the season with only one unproven Striker, even if he turns out to be decent it will be absolutely stupid to think he can play 60 games! I can’t get my head round the thinking behind this…. we just can’t score enough goals and we not addressed it, there is a severe shortage of decent strikers out there, but surely we can find someone!

This is just my opinion.
But keeping a player that has no desire to play for you helps no one at all.
Fans clearly hate him at this point, and the manager has made him the last choice.
Doesnt suit at all how we play.

If he moves out on loan, we save on wages, and I do not see Jonny Evans as a massive downgrade from Maguire. The only concern is fitness, as Evans and Varane aren't the fittest players around.

Maguire, McTom, Donny out and Evans, Marcos Alonso (or Cucurella), Amrabat and Gravenberch would be good business at this stage of the window.
I am not bothered about the structure of how the above happens but something needs to happen.

Maguire out, Cucurella and Evans in would be more than adequate at the back.

But I wouldn’t be tolerating a loan deal if I were United. You’re happy to go there, Harry? Then you aren’t getting the severance pay and you aren’t going on loan. £30m and no pay off or stay and be sixth choice.

Then next summer we can go big on a centre half to replace Varane.

I totally agree on what your saying other than the wages part. We’d probably have to pay a huge chunk of his wages as that was the sticking point before. If however we only have to cover a small portion then they I can see how loaning him out could be helpful for us.

I see no benefit to loaning out Maguire, especially now Shaw is injured., as we are stretched at the back. People lauding Evans. Yes he’s a decent back up, but not somebody a club with our aspirations should be relying on.

Either we sell and replace, or he stays until at least January (which is only 4 months away), giving us time to find a suitable deal.

I know I might be in a minority but Maguire is miles better than Evans. Given Varrane's injury record, Shaw out for a lengthy spell, How does the team benefit by losing a Maguire and paying part of his wages to go play for another team. I cannot see Westham paying 200k in wages.

I can just see it lol, the fans being in uproar when Evans has a howler, which he did even when he played for us in his prime and then everyone questions why we let Maguire go and did not sign a new Cb and evans is rubbish

The Evans signing is a weird deal and not sure what we are doing there.

Evans passing is decent but him as a defender in the pl and we will leak goals for fun. He was pretty poor at Leicester last year and they leaked goals and no coincidence they got relegated.

I don't hate Maguire and wish he had gone and was replaced.

It's not a question of him suddenly changing his mind, he was happy to join them last time - it was his pay off from Utd that was the issue. Now it seems West Ham are open to contributing to that.

Maguire is dreadful. He has singlehandedly cost us games. I never want to see him in a United shirt again or see him on the bench.

We had the chance to sell him and we haggled over a few million. Now it has hampered the sale and us bringing in a longterm EtH replacement.

Loaning him out may allow us to bring in a CB, but it'll be at the expense of Amrabat. Then we will probably get someone like Gravenberch on loan.

Hope I'm wrong, but it could come down to Amrabat or a new CB. I don't see us bringing in many more outfield players permanently without sales. Loans are not sales.

Maguire and McTominay are stopping us from rebuilding the team, but it's the club who have been squabbling over a few million, so cutting off nose to spite face comes to mind here.

28 Aug 2023 13:11:24
Mumbles, the issue is Maguire wants to be paid off. That's him and his representatives' prerogative, however it stops there being any chance of a permanent move. WHU have spent a lot of money, so unlikely can be more than a loan move. Doubt anyone else is interested. A loan is only real likelihood.

But on loan, he will play in the EPL, get full pay, get into the England team and wind down his contract. We should have paid him off and brought in Todibo.

28 Aug 2023 14:09:48
Got to hand it to EtH, he does play the game very well.

Lots of moving parts between now and Thursday.

What does everyone think will be the end result?

A) What they want to happen.

B) What they think will happen.

I'll go first.

A) Maguire sold, Todibo brought in.

B) Maguire loaned out, Todibo brought in. Potentially at cost of Amrabat deal. (Hope not) .

I think it's madness that players expect to get paid millions to leave to leave. It's not like they are leaving a 20 million contract to get paid 11 quid an hour, they are still going to get millions a year. 100 grand a week is 5.2 million a year! no benefit to us letting him leave on loan unless there is a decent loan fee and they cover his wages.

17.) 28 Aug 2023
28 Aug 2023 14:36:29
If West Ham really want him they’ll pay the extra severance payment he wasn’t happy with. Think he was offered 6m from Man U and wanted 12m. They’ll pay the extra 6m if they really want him.

18.) 28 Aug 2023
28 Aug 2023 14:45:31
Tis fairly simple. You couldn't give away some of the players we have for free. Not to even think about getting paid for them.

19.) 28 Aug 2023
28 Aug 2023 14:48:26
Dannyc, all players sign a contract that has a set length and salary to be paid during this period. This is what the club and player have committed to.
If a player chooses to leave mid contract then it would likely be for a better deal. In this case we are pressing to move him on so not surprisingly Maguire and his team are looking to bridge the gap in wages for the final 2 years.
I almost expect this is more common than we realise . just not as high profile or as much money involved.
We want him gone . he has a right to get the best for himself and family.

20.) 28 Aug 2023
28 Aug 2023 14:55:07
Syd, unfortunately if he wants to be paid off, we have to take our medicine for giving out ridiculous contracts to average players.

21.) 28 Aug 2023
28 Aug 2023 15:05:50
Mumbles, agree.

Still, you can judge a player who chooses money over his very short career. Especially over around probably 5% of his lifetime earnings. Greed. Or could be more stubbornness or saving face.

22.) 28 Aug 2023
28 Aug 2023 15:33:10
Brad I get what your saying, but if a player hasn't hit expectations and someone else is willing to give them a contract then surely that's it. Why should we pay him to leave.

If you or me had a job that we weren't meeting expectations, weren't happy, got a demotion and got offered a job somewhere else on less money we wouldn't ask our current employer to make up the difference, you suck it up and leave.

I had a decent job 6 or 7 years ago where I was priced out of swapping as no other similar job paid anything near what I was earning, I had to take the hit and take a step back for my mental wellbeing and start again, Harry should do the same. He won't play for England again otherwise.

23.) 28 Aug 2023
28 Aug 2023 21:12:35
Danny. He has a contract. You didn't.
Nobody in their right mind walks away from that kind of money.
He is right to want his pay off. He is entitled to it legally and morally. I don't get why anyone would be peeved at him for that.
Criticise him like us all for a multitude of valid reason but I'd be criticising him if he didn't maximise his earnings, nobody should walk away from that sort of cash.
I think West ham may well up their bid to 35m or so to help united pay him up.
I think he will do well for West ham and I hope he does.
Players play for money it's their living and a very handsome one for the elite I don't begrudge them a penny that they have been committed to.
Ps.
Brave move of your own and I hope that's worked out well for you. Great call. Mental and physical health should always take priority over an extra holiday or fancy new motor. ??.

24.) 29 Aug 2023
28 Aug 2023 23:49:34
Lawman, If reports are accurate, then United are offering him the difference between the two salaries. So he isn't losing any money. He is getting the same.

WHU are offering £130k a week, United are offering £6m to plug the gap for the two years he has left. So making it the same. Maguire wants double that.

29 Aug 2023 16:40:30
Wonder why no club from Saudi Arabia have come in for Maguire? £200000 a week is pittance for them, £3000000 is nothing on a fee. Apart from a few older players he should be able to find he’s on a par with the rest of the players in that league.
