I left Old Trafford feeling numb. Awful 98 mins of no visible strategy, energy or commitment. I can’t even remember a tackle. I’m at the point where stupid VAR decisions aren’t even worth debating.

I got back to car park 4 soaking wet only to find a flat tyre. Problem is the worst moment of the day was still to come. Micky Grey, a pundit on Talk Sport, was telling one of many angry United callers (all calling out Rashford) that he spoke to a United coach recently (who he is good friends with) who said the entirety of the management and coaches have a rule to never shout at the players. The players don’t like it. The coach said ‘they loose them’ if they do that.

I just can’t compute that. Are the patients running the asylum! I’m done. Can’t type any more.

I coach a team of under 11s

And shout and believe me they ain’t as fickle as these players we have at this club

Yet again the same players who have been around for the previous 4 or 5 managers are still at the club

When are we going to realise the players just are not good enough

We overachieved last season and everyone got ahead of themselves

Now the likes of Liverpool are performing, and teams like villa and spurs doing good, just shows where we are at.

I didn’t realise that shouting abuse at players made them play better. I just think that the quality of our recruitment has been very poor. I would only keep two of the players who played yesterday - Hoijlund and Rashford. I feel that Rashford in the right team can be effective. The others simply are not good enough to compete at the highest level. Fernandes is overrated as a player, and is clearly not captain material. City just brushed him aside. The full backs are atrocious, the central defenders plodding, the midfield bereft of creativity and steel. Obama did well yesterday but I’m still not convinced. We really need to be aware of a player’s character before we buy. Too many do not have the mentality (or the ability) to take us to a higher level. This is not just a reaction to yesterday’s performance. I have felt this for quite a while. Ten Haag said that the players did not follow his instructions. Why not? He should root them out if he believes that.

While many will find this frustrating it's a sadl reality of modern society.

These young players do not have the resilience or the inclination to be shouted at.

They are young, who driven millionaires who are surrounded by sycophants who only tell them how great they are in order to pick at the carcass and get fat off of someone more talented than themselves.

It's true, if you shout at them and belittle them then they will only turn against you. They will not do as they are asked and they will actively work against you.

This is the same thing in schools with students. The teachers who shout at kids do not get positive responses.

Shouting at the players will not benefit you or the club. That doesn't mean you can't shout and display unhappiness, just that it shouldn't be directed at an individual. Angry the situation, at the result, but not at the individual. You need to show support to the individual, you can say where they went wrong but you have to do so in a way where you are helping them grow from it. The problem comes when you are faced with someone who doesn't or cannot accept they make mistakes. They don't listen and you have to work very hard at finding how to get through to them. Shouting at them never works.

I know many on here won't like to hear that, and may even disagree. But working in schools with kids having seen thousands of if not millions of interactions with kids I can tell you shouting never works.

If the players are continually not following ETH's instructions then surely he would drop them?

Manchesters main newspaper is reporting the opinion that Ten Hag is quote, a problem, but there are bigger problems.

I think ETH needs to up his game very quickly or may be on his way. Arnold is delusional if he thinks there are signs of improvement this season. The Newcastle game has become a lot bigger.

jrred, it depends, are they not following instructions because they don't want to or because they are incapable?

That also doesn't just mean they lack the physical skills but the mental ones as well. Do they lack concentration, intelligence, fight?

Of course. Fergie never shouted at anybody. Some ludicrous responses on here. Perform consistently badly. Get roasted. Grow a pair people. I’ve seen Pep and Klopp shout at players straight after game finishes whilst walking off the pitch.

United players are physically am and technically behind every top team I can thing of.
It's simple they are not very good in most aspects of the game.
Outside of martinez casimero and possibly rasmus their decision making and technical ability is miles off the required standard.
Giving the ball away all the time.

Bang on brd.
Until the club clears out the players nothing will change.

The job of the manager and the coqches is to get a tune out of each player, some respond to a hair dryer, some respond to another approach. I don't care what works with what player, I do care that the staff are doing their job and find ong out what is needed for every member of this team.

I the coaching staff can't do the job they are paid to do then they need to go. There are plenty of highly Motivated teams across many sports of this generation of pampered youth who will run through walls to win.

The players may not be right, the people building the squad may not be right, the coaches may not be right, my own guy feeling is all are off right now and are either going to have to find their own answers to the problem or be replaced.

Too many have been suckling from United teat for too long, no doubt we will be rewarding mediocrity with fat extensions this year.

AWB, Lindelof, Martial are not good enough, Hannibal would be the only one I would extend and even then only if price is right.

Shappy, if they are not following instructions because they don't want to or incapable, then drop them.

If they lack the physical skills (it is like taking candy off a baby watching how we give the ball away) or the mental attributes they should not be in the 1st team.

Do they lack concentration and fight err yes, from what I've been watching, certainly this season.

Carragher is right we are playing underdog football.

So according to a lot of UTD fans on here and online all you need to do is new owners complete new structure above TH sell all the players pre TH oh and a complete new training ground and back TH with another war chest to build in his style and there you have it replica of the all conquering footy his Ajax played although they didn't even win a Europa league must be the most insane fans in world footy if u can't see youve once again backed a lost cause.

BadRedDevil, Sir Alex was a different time and even he admits that he had to shout less at the players as his career wore on.

There is a time and place for it. That time and place is less often that it ever has been. It needs to be targeted and planned, there has to be a reason for it and you have to know it will get the response you want. It can never just be you letting out frustration or annoyance. Maybe someone didn't follow your instructions and it cost us the game, quite rightly you'll be annoyed about that, but to let that guide your thinking into you laying into a player is short sighted and misguided.

In fact recently didn't Evra say that Sir Alex never laid into Nani because the manager knew he couldn't take it.

You don't have to be works class to run shappy? Or to come the instructions.
