Poor performance, but LVG has essentially met his objectives today of finishing in the top 4. Next season I would suggest that the objectives are a top 2 finish and to get out of the group in Europe - small steps at a time.

With the right signings we could do very well, but the system needs tweaking for the strikers to get involved without coming deep - this current system does not suit strikers, only midfielders and centre backs.

Fresh - I think you are right in terms of the planned improvement, but that would be the case with an Arsenal, Spurs or Liverpool not a team like us with our budgets. For every baby step is it going to take £150mil+ of spend?

We have barely improved (if at all) from last season, we are certainly harder to break down, but we have looked even less threatening going forward.

The leap we need to make next season to just stand still will be much further because our opponents will never be as bad as they have been this season.

We barely improved true.
Obly liverpool and everton have fallen. We are still at the same level.
We have been so lucky all season, even today. 1 questionable penalty and another collision.
The past 3 games have been the worst we have played.
And i won't expect to see half of the current squad in the next 2 seasons.

Beast,

We have barely improved from last season? Is that a joke? Look at our results against the other top teams compared to last season mate, you'll argue blue is black to have a dig at the manager.

Agree fresh, his job was to get us to 4th. He has done that (barring miracles). Sure we would all have liked a few better performances, higher in the league and maybe a cup but 4th was essential and he has delivered that.
Next season however is different, we should be challenging top spot and like you say qualifying from our group. One step at a time. No matter what anybody says it was always going to take time.
I'm happy tonight, pretty much confirmed 4th!

{Ed025's Note - i think that was the brief will, im not LVG,s biggest fan to be honest, but fair play to him on getting the job done..

We have been so lucky? rohanarora, every team has gotten some form of luck, whether good or bad. You make it seem as tho we are the only team that gets the rub of the green sometimes. what about the many times when we were just unlucky to score? forgot those? Y'all need to calm down.
We are very lucky that the likes of you are not manager material, as we would have a new team after every bad (oh we won today) result.

A top four finish will only be due to Suarez having left Liverpool. Can't see much of an improvement, considering the record amount of money we've spent (wasted)

{Ed025's Note - its not easy you know porsche, there is a clamor for instant success from fans for united to pick up from where SAF left off, but this is the real world mate, be a supporter and support, there has been progress made..

We were doing great offensively until Carrick was ruled out, shows how much of an important figure he is for us. With some new signings we'll look like a different team next year, definitely an improvement from last season we're moving in the right direction just not as quick as some narrow minded, impatient supporters on here would like.

Have to agree with GDS2 , look at our results v top teams . There's no comparison to last season . We were the softest touch ever last season .
I think a lot of people underestimate just what what an upheaval it was when SAF stepped down .Most big clubs change manager every three or four seasons at most but with us everything had been run a certain way by one man for over a quarter of a century .
We then compounded this by appointing someone who , much as I would have liked him to do well , was out of his depth from day one .
LVG has made mistakes , it's been really hard going at times but I reckon we'll be much stronger for it next season

Moyes 2 signings have played a big part, shame Lvg signings haven't contributed more
