Scott was excellent yesterday. He is often listed as one who should be sold and he remains an enigma. Some games he is anonymous, others he looks a real player. I was hoping ETH would solve this conundrum but it seems he doesn't fancy him, although he's now picked him ahead of Fred.

Jose rated him, albeit the wider group was crap back turn, he usually turns up and plays well for Scotland, so what is the issue? If he could deliver his good games far more often he would be a real asset, perhaps not as first choice, but someone we could rely on to make a difference when he does play. As an Academy graduate I so want him to do well but so far, he hasn't been able to maintain his best form over a sustained period.

It's a mystery, and I guess he is not alone with delivering highs and lows. Frustrating though.

He did have a decent game this weekend. The one attribute McT has over our other midfielders is height, something we're lacking overall. He certainly fit into the Mourinho style better than a pressing high-tempo one.
I think along with Fred and Sabitzer these players are perfectly decent squad options but without having some kind of plan or upgrading at some point we're just going to have a growing collection of decent yet unspectacular players in this position.

He always plays better higher up or in a box to box role. I don't like him as a holding midfielder because his passing isn't the best.

I think he excels when he is allowed to run with the ball.

I think that’s fair Sepp. Sadly his passing and positional sense/ reading of the game are not good enough.

He isn’t good enough to start so should be sold to upgrade our midfield.

Funny definition of excellent. Outside of the goal he was very mediocre again, but when he does it he’s “excellent”, despite constantly having less involvement and poorer contributions than nearly any of our other options.

Well if he is to be sold, the mooted £50m is going to be a problem for many clubs. He'll be their marquee signing!
