Great read Ed. Thank you. Brought back some lovely memories.

{Ed001's Note - cheers Fizz, it was before my time and I had never actually seen the fight before I started my research so it was nice to finally get to see something I had heard so much about. You are lucky to have lived at the time. They claim that something like a quarter of the world's population at the time watched it live.}

I'm not a fan of boxing particularly but I do remember watching 'enry Cooper putting Ali on the floor. He might well have beaten him had it not been for the cut eye. Does that date me?

He did beat him, only for Angelo Dundee to split Ali’s glove and give him a few minutes recovery time. Of course Henry’s cut eye cost him in the 5th.

Patrick I dropped straight to the bottom of the post to comment on the split glove incident that took minutes to sort and gave Ali and his team time to get back in the fight (that has now faded into history) - but you got there first.
I'm 76 now, but at the time was an active amateur boxer and watched this fight in a pub up in the Lake District. Henry was toe to toe until the cut. Great scrap.
Shawthing you might have dated yourself but so have I, in spades!

Ed
Good read, I am one of those who watched that fight at the time. Thanks

Was it Harry Carpenter doing the commentary? I was a big fan of Ali, so was my family, greatest for me.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know who did the commentary, sorry.}

Red Man, I think it was always Harry Carpenter commentating, he had a great relationship with Henry and Ali.

The documentary ''When we were Kings'' is outstanding if you like Ali, Boxing or want to know a bit more about the Ali hype.
