So Getafe can't afford the €50m for Greenwood apparently, time to work them.

We could do with 2 CBs, Getafe have a Uruguayan fella called Gaston Alvarez who plays left CB and LB.

Maybe we could take a cash and player deal for Greenwood, get rid of an unwanted asset and bring in a versatile defender at good value who provides better strength to the required depth of a department that's been riddled with injury crises all season.
Maybe then spend a little on a starter for the right CB position.

Either way, whichever side, one required CB will need to be a bit of a punt or a free like Lloyd Kelly or Tosin.

Ideally, I'd rather we kept him.
There's so much noise to get this or that striker, but mason is perfect for that role.
He has already shown higher potential and match winning ability over a rash and martial.
A good manager and a good system and this guy would score 20+ every year.

He is worth 80m imo. Wiill bite us back, when he moves onto a bigger club breaking records.

There’s no way he comes back, ineos don’t want the massive pr nightmare that comes with it. Whether you agree or not, whether u think he should or shouldn’t come back, that’s the reality!

Selling him for 40 million and signing a replacement for 60-80 million who's half as good would be typical us.

Not a chance he stays. Its not worth it. Thankfully.

If Barcelona are interested Like we are led to believe maybe we could look at a swap deal for Ronald Araujo or Jules Kounde who are both quality defenders.

I'd be very much in the stay camp but I don't think it will happen and selling him for a fee close to 40m will be difficult in the extreme.
Clubs know we want to sell and clubs also know they will take a lot of great if they sign him.
A fantastic prospect but sadly I think he will be forced to move.
All we can do it try to get the best deal possible for him.
I suspect that won't exceed 25m with sell in clauses max, and someone is getting a great deal.
We might have a new coach in the summer and a new football management t team in place. I'd imagine all will want to start without being on the backfoot with negative pr.
I hope greenwoos does really well wherever he goes.

Ork ed002 might know if we hold any interest in the players you mention I've not seen their names
Linked with us at all.

{Ed002's Note - Manchester United has no interest in Tosin Adarabioyo or Lloyd Kelly.}

I wonder how often these exhanges seem to come off. Although good in principle I can't think of the last big-time swap that we did. In January the suggestion was Malen for Sancho.
Anyway looks like we're going to p*ss up the summer budget on the overpriced Branthwaite :D.

Backpass

If it weren't for the damage his name would bring to the club, of course he'd be worth more.

Personally, I see it this way.
Trigger his extension to protect his already much-reduced value.
Get his name flashing in the shop window and be prepared to embark upon a series of more complex negotiations that might include a lesser-value player in return.

If it were me, I'd also push PSG on their interest in Rashford. While they will also be looking at Leao and Kvaradonna, they might actually view Rashford as the cheaper purchase option. If there's a chance to get £80m for him, I'd bite their hand off.

If we could get something around £40m for Greenwood (an unwanted asset) and around £80m for Rashford (should be peaking now and might start suffering with niggles soon), I'd consider that a good start for the summer.

What we should get for Greenwood based on talent and potential is subjective and ultimately immaterial. His baggage is difficult to deal with here, but it's far more easily accepted in Spain.
Getafe, like Atleti and Barca, know that United are prepared to shift him on for less than his worth, so they will all look to take the p***.

Yes, this might bite us back, but it is what it is.
However, I don't buy the idea that he would bag 20+ goals every season under the right manager.
He's scored 35 total senior gls for United from 129 apps. In 2019/ 20 and 2020/ 21 he made 49 and 52 apps respectively - bagging 17 and 12 gls respectively. All this in the Ole system that suited his style perfectly.

Again, it is what it is.
Anyway, what about this Alvarez fella?

{Ed002's Note - Deliberately extending to sell is not allowed.}

Personally will be glad when the whole situation is done no matter which side of the fence you sit on with Greenwood.
No one doubts his ability and what he could offer, but this should not be the consideration and yes he will likely go on to be a good player wherever he ends up.
If we can get anywhere north of £35/ 40m then this will be 100% for FFP and immediately can be used towards a replacement.
We can then put it all in the past and move forward.
I feel similar about Sancho/ Van De Beek/ Maguire/ McTominy and many more (very different reasons obviously), maximise the value but get a fee in and move on.

The hilarity of Marcus Rashford being a genuine replacement for Kyllian Mbappe even in a game of FIFA chuckles me.

Rashford might do very well at PSG. On by far the best team in a less competitive league, he’d, theoretically, get more chances and score more goals. He’s a confidence player and that would suit him.

Rashford is a very good player. Personally I think something is up with him in his personal life this season.

He's always had the talent, and he has always been a hardworking, dedicated player. Someone who ate right, trained hard, would often be the first in and the last two leave training. Someone who never lacked for effort on the pitch.

That was true last season. This season however something is different, he seems unfocused, unmotivated and lacking effort and work rate. He looks like mentally he's playing in 2nd gear.

For me that points towards something happening in his life away from football that is distracting him or effecting his mood/ attitude. His demeanor seems more sullen, less jovial than it has been previously.

We are all very quick to jump on players when their performance level drops, when what we should really be doing is asking why it has.

Maybe he needs a move away, a clean break and a fresh start. I wouldn't be surprised to see him excel somewhere else. If that is what he wants then its best the club look to accommodate that. I've always said the moment a player doesn't want to be here then they need to be shown the door. However, in his recent interview it was clear that he loves the club. So maybe the better course of action is to support him, find out what has changed and help him through it. Help him get back to the Marcus who plays with a smile on his face, who works hard and always gives 100% effort. If we can get him back to that headspace then we will have a 20 goal a season player, not just any player either, but a former academy player who genuinely loves the club and is a fan like us at heart.

If there is something in Rashford life which is bothering him it would explain a lot. Also would suggest that he is possibly not getting the mental help he needs at Utd.

15 Mar 2024 06:10:31
Well, if Getafe can’t afford him, Getafe can’t have him. That’s how buying things works.

Agreed Danny Rashford will excel at PSG. It seems like the perfect fit. Players who think they are better than they are seem to end up there.

Whatever Rashfords problems are the crux of the matter is that he is a burden to the team. Doesn't even put enough in to warrant the title of passenger! Because of this, he shouldn't be picked to play. He should be removed from the pressure to get his issue sorted. That would benefit both the player and the team.

Your being very repetitve fizz. Your constantly going on about rashford. Your agenda is clear. ? you just try and say it a different way every day.

21.) 16 Mar 2024
16 Mar 2024 12:19:44
Fizz, there are two problems with that train of thought. Firstly from the teams perspective we actually don't have anyone who offers more than what Rashford is offering right now, let alone at his best.

Dropping Rashford means one or even both of Antony and Amad have to start depending on Hojlund's availability.

Even as poor as Rashford has been he has 7 goals and 2 assists for us this season. Antony has 1 goal and 0 assists. Amad hasn't shown much when he has come on to suggest he'd do much better.

The second issue is that depending on what the issue is and the person involved it might not be best for that person to stop their work. It might be that their work gives them s break from whatever it is they are dealing with.

I'm going through a divorce currently, and when we first split up the idea of not being able to go into work and do my job would fill me with dread. I wanted and needed those 8 hours escape each day to distract me and allow me to have some time away from it all. That's me though, others might need that time. Also it probably depends on what it is you are dealing with, and what options you have to deal with it.

The reality is Rashford is not the major problem is this team, our problems won't be magically solved by simply dropping him. While it might be frustrating watching him right now, it might not be in the clubs or the players best interests to drop him.
