Ryan Giggs future - supposedly. "Manchester United are understood to have offered Ryan Giggs a role designed to bridge the gap between their first team and Under 21s.
I think while appearing to be a backward step for this years assistant manager (I think that was in name only and Giggs had little input), it would provide him the opportunity to hone his coaching, and team mannigerial skills. While still being close to Mourinho to learn from him as he has from SAF, and LVG.
It also provides an opportunity to get very close to the Man Utd youngsters who wou, d become his lifeblood if he is to ultimately get the opportunity he so dearly wants.
What do you all think?

I would say this is the right move as long as Warren Joyce is leaving on his own terms. If we were to force Joyce out to make way for Giggs then I wouldn't be as happy.

Hopefully Giggs can show what he is made of now with his own squad.

2.) 26 May 2016 09:31:29
If Warren Joyce leaves I'd give Giggs the chance to show his credentials there if he doesn't want to leave United, fair play to Joyce wanting to go prove himself elsewhere, for me that would put Joyce ahead of Giggs in terms of managing United in the future.

I haven't been able to see much of the preseason games due to work. I am interested to hear how the people who have see games think Andreas Pireirra is going right now.
I am all for the young talent coming through as long as they are contributing something to the team. How is he getting on?

What about our old favourites TFM? And Tuanzebe? What do people think?
I look forward to the comment?

He has gotten better each game. I am not sure about him defensively as he might get pushed aside by some powerful runners in the midfield. He has a good passing range - he looks to forward passes to feet quickly and he can play some long switches to either flank. I think we all are guilty of getting down a player in preseason when there are a lot of turnovers when players have a lot more miscommunication. But Pereira is a player who wants the ball and tries to keep it moving, and is alert enough to play it forward a lot more than sideways and backwards.

Thanks Zidaniel.
How are TFM and Tuanzebe looking?

Michael Carrick

It's interesting to me to read about the discussion in the dressing room at half time against citeh. Not surprisingly the senior players lead the discussion with Michael being one of those. It makes me wonder how central he was? Is he a good motivator? Listening to the players talk about him he is clearly held in high esteem and very well respected. That's not surprising.
I wonder if we have a future Manchester United manager coming through the ranks?
He certainly seems to get what United are about and is passionate about the club.
I will be watching on with interest!

It was really interesting reading the comments from the players Mike. Especially Pogba's ones regarding the influence Carra has on him and the runs he was telling him to make. Clearly is very well respected and admired by the current bunch of players.

I must admit I never looked at him as a motivator or vocal presence such as a keane or a ferdinand, but more of a scholes who let his actions speak louder than words. However, Carrick has always had a very good footballing brain and is clearly an intelligent individual and I for one would be ecstatic if he is being groomed as a potential united manager if he has the ability to do so. Its this sort of planning that we have been missing and who else to promote as manager than a player who knows what it is like to play for united and understands the values of the club. However he has to have the ability and not be considered on sentiment or reputation alone. I will also be watching in interest as it is clear both jose and the players have an enormous amount of respect for him.

2.) 09 Apr 2018 14:16:01
He would certainly be a better choice than Giggs, seems a lot brighter when he talks, has had to read a lot of games over the years and in general just seems to be a nicer person (not difficult I would imagine) . Not saying he should get the job any time soon, but I can certainly see him in a top managerial role more so than Giggs.

3.) 09 Apr 2018 15:18:35
Park - I couldn’t agree more.

4.) 09 Apr 2018 15:19:58
GDS something for us all to watch with interest.
Best of luck to him.

5.) 09 Apr 2018 15:49:12
Folks as I have mentioned I feel Carrick would be a good manager for us. Hopefully after Jose leads us to a title or a double or triple and relinquish to Carrick.
Carrick has always been a better thinker than Goggs. Giggs is a player and deliverer. Carrick is a strategist and solution provider. Carrick will definitely be a more successful manager than Giggs. Just like Nicky Butt. He is a good coach but not necessarily a good manager. Carrick doesn’t talk much but when he talks most listen. I hope our club does not release him to other clubs. We need to give him the opportunity to progress to become a manager of the club.

6.) 09 Apr 2018 16:57:43
Spot on guys. Carrick strikes me as someone who would be a very good man manager as well as tactically sound. Not sure why but I see a bit of pep in Carrick. I loved Giggs as a player but I don’t think he has it in him to be a top manager. I might be wrong but appointing him would be a mistake. From our current bunch of players I can see Herrera and mata being accomplished managers.

7.) 09 Apr 2018 20:52:50
Wow, the analysis of Carrick on here is stunning. I love him as a player but I hadn’t realised he was a strategist and solution provider. As for Giggs, let’s see how he does at Wales before writing him off.

8.) 09 Apr 2018 21:46:05
Of all the managers who have never managed a game he’s definitely the best AJH.

9.) 09 Apr 2018 22:04:35
RWWD, yes but he’s still underrated.

10.) 10 Apr 2018 10:46:14
All I was saying was I wonder if he has potential?

Not . he will deliver Utd the treble in 2022.

I have b n as disappointed as all over the last weeke or so. I thought the Liverpool win had set us up to beat Seville, not to be. Hugely disappointing. But it was just one game.
So a question to the ED's and regular posters. If we accept that Mourinho gets another year, gets a good budget to improve the team/ squad, what do people think it will take to make this team truely competitive (with the likes of City, Madrid, Barca, Bayern, Juve) next season? I personally don't rate PSG very highly.
Who does he need to bring in to fix the issues he has talked about over the last week? Looking forward to the answers and opinions.

Perthredmike

{Ed025's Note - there is only one way for united to be truely competitive mike, and thats to part company with the manager mate..

1.) 18 Mar 2018 13:01:21
It’s a good question, and what Jose would like and us fans may want will certainly be different!

Jose needs players that will carry out orders effectively and to get us near to that level, playing how Jose wants to play we would need at least 5 first team players. Two new fullbacks, two new attacking players and a CM.

I’ll go with Meunièr and Danny Rose for the fullbacks, Willian and Perisic as the attacking players and Jorginho for CM.

I’m not saying I agree with the above or that those signings would make us competitive, it’s just my opinion on what Jose himself might like to see happen.

2.) 18 Mar 2018 12:56:55
Personally i'd be devestated if Mourinho left, but if that were to happen, who would be your pick for manager Ed025?

{Ed025's Note - i think poch would fit well scholes and i also like paulo fonseca who i believe is going places mate..

3.) 18 Mar 2018 15:01:36
Do like the way Spurs play their football under Pochettino but he hasn't won a trophy in his managerial career, bit risky. I THINK it was Ed001 who said his teams lack discipline and crumble under pressure, not to mention that when he's had a say on transfers at Spurs they haven't worked out too well, at United he'd have a bigger say than he does there.

Leonardo Jardim would be my pick, but only once Mourinho leaves in 2/ 3 years, get rid of Jose now and i feel as if we'll be in a continuous vicious cycle whereby we get rid of managers every other year, appoint someone with a completely different set of ideas and ways of playing, give them a few hundred million and then after a while the fans will be on his back aswell, process will just repeat itself.

Since Sir Alex left, the past few seasons just seem to be a blur, constant mediocrity and players not trying hard enough, not good enough and lacking effort and commitment. Now Mourinho's questioning these players, whether we as fans or the players, 'pundits and journalists' agree with it morally, it may just be the kick up the a**e they need, Jose's only here for a few years, he doesn't have to 'endear' himself to the fans but as long as he sorts out the mess, leaves the club in a strong position then i couldn't care less what he does or says. I just don't understand why fans are complaning of the way we are playing TWO years after Jose was appointed manager, we knew this is exactly how it was going to be when he first came.

Ideally:
•win the league under Jose
•leave a strong squad for the next manager
•Appoint Jardim/ Maurizio Sarri to 'restore the attacking style play' we were so accustomed to.

Just my opinion fellas😬🤷‍♂️.

Wishful thinking Deano5, in the history of late transfers at Utd I can only really remember last minute signings being one offs.
E. g. Berbatov, Rooney, Fellaini, Falcao.
Not in groups like you suggest. I reckon It’s hard enough to get one deal done in a day or so, let alone bringing in pulisic, Toby and Sandro while shipping off martial, Jones, Rojo and Darmian.
Ed and his team haven’t managed this number in the window so far, what makes you think it will all happen in 2.5 days? I like your thinking in terms of players but personally I am not optimistic.

One of the Red Devils - it sounds like you’re a closet city fan anyway if you’re prepared to make a statement like that. thanks for coming, we’ll persevere without your questionable ‘support’.

I for 1 am hopeful that Carrick grows into this job. By all accounts the players look up to him, respect him as a leader (as they should) . He understands this team, understands the players, understands and loves United. He has a lot of potential. We just need to see if he has the appetite and aptitude now. I really hope so.

Hopefully being in and around the first team has a positive effect on them. I’m hoping so.
It would be great to see a couple of strong cameos from these two during the season.
Fingers crossed for these two talented lads.

{Ed0333's Note - I like Chong he has something about him. Swag and ability. Look forward to seeing him play more. And I even like his hair!
