Ryan Giggs future - supposedly. "Manchester United are understood to have offered Ryan Giggs a role designed to bridge the gap between their first team and Under 21s.
I think while appearing to be a backward step for this years assistant manager (I think that was in name only and Giggs had little input), it would provide him the opportunity to hone his coaching, and team mannigerial skills. While still being close to Mourinho to learn from him as he has from SAF, and LVG.
It also provides an opportunity to get very close to the Man Utd youngsters who wou, d become his lifeblood if he is to ultimately get the opportunity he so dearly wants.
What do you all think?

I would say this is the right move as long as Warren Joyce is leaving on his own terms. If we were to force Joyce out to make way for Giggs then I wouldn't be as happy.

Hopefully Giggs can show what he is made of now with his own squad.

2.) 26 May 2016 09:31:29
If Warren Joyce leaves I'd give Giggs the chance to show his credentials there if he doesn't want to leave United, fair play to Joyce wanting to go prove himself elsewhere, for me that would put Joyce ahead of Giggs in terms of managing United in the future.

What a stroke of genius by Mourinho to sell Mata to United so that the little maestro would be there waiting for hi when he himself arrived 😀.

Perthredmike

1.) 14 Aug 2016 18:15:15
Haha yes. I love hearing from the manager and players, they seem to be happy and all on the same page, us versus them just like it should be.

One more addition.

Fabinho anyone?

Perthredmike

1.) 09 Aug 2016 08:55:14
manolas?

2.) 09 Aug 2016 09:04:18
Wondered how long it would take, shiny new signings, we need shiny new signings! We have Valencia, TFM and darmian who can play right back, do we want our young players to get a chance?

Jose said he wanted 4 players and a squad of 26 including 3 keepers, we now have that, so we won't be signing anybody unless one of that 26 leaves. We are ready for the season, signings done nice and early yet people still desperate for more.

3.) 09 Aug 2016 09:09:18
Gds you might as well be banging your head off the side of a brick wall.

4.) 09 Aug 2016 09:21:49
the general opinion has been that UTD are in need of an experienced CB. even eds have said that they would like and think that JM should sign someone.

it was only yesterday that one of the eds suggested manolas for CB and roma have just signed a Madrid CB leaving manolas free to move maybe?

nobody has said that the new signings are not enough and nobody is ignoring that JM said 26 squad inc 3 keepers BUT a new CB has been called for since JM took over and IMO maybe is needed. maybe at the xmas break then.

5.) 09 Aug 2016 09:22:39
It's actually a squad of 25, 23 outfield and 2 keepers.

6.) 09 Aug 2016 09:28:08
GDS2 I don't disagree with you.
I think TFM could be the answer at DM and if he is, a player like him is much more value to us there. That's all.
I just think he has too much potential to play RB. Not that there's anything wrong with RB I've played there 🙂
I want to see our kids come through too, but if it's not TFM I don't see a ready made kid to plug in now? Joe Reilly maybe? I haven't seen enough of him.

This is just banter mate. I'm sure JM is not hanging on my every word ready to make the changes 👍.

7.) 09 Aug 2016 09:37:50
I hope that is the end of business so we can crack on with the real business of winning games.

8.) 09 Aug 2016 09:58:07
Benny,

26 including Sam Johnstone. Straight from Jose's mouth, I am not making it up, 26 players, 23+3 goalkeepers.

9.) 09 Aug 2016 11:58:34
Gds, I imagine everyone happy with the business done and if that was that, no complaints. But we're short of quality at CB whatever anyone says. Jones and Rojo are not up to it, blind and smelling are average and Bailly is new and can't be judged. A proven, experienced CB wouldn't go a miss.

You've got to love the crap some 'reporters' put out around transfer time. Just saw this one.
"With Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Manchester United capture first serial winner in post-Ferguson era"
What do they think Basti was? He's Been a serial winner his whole career! Including internationally.
Larf!

Perthredmike

1.) 01 Jul 2016 11:33:50
Jose? is he not a serial winner?

2.) 01 Jul 2016 11:33:50
Jose? is he not a serial winner?

3.) 01 Jul 2016 11:57:58
Serial whinner?

4.) 01 Jul 2016 12:12:28
Just ignore the press, they are desperately looking for stories about Zlatan and United, it's pathetic.

5.) 01 Jul 2016 13:04:49
The British press are just pathetic, full stop.

6.) 01 Jul 2016 13:46:38
Think reference to when he got lucky in a Kellogs draw.

01 Jul 2016 04:51:44
Just on the youngsters, Utd have produced many Div1 / PL players over the years.
I was just trying to think of any that were brought back after being sold/ let go.
Can anyone remember any?

Perthredmike

1.) 01 Jul 2016 07:48:57
The only one i can remember is Mark Hughes when fergie brought him back from barcelona.

2.) 01 Jul 2016 08:09:53
Mark Hughes and Paul scholes are two that came back.

3.) 01 Jul 2016 08:50:14
Not sure Scholes really counts, he didn't go elsewhere. Sparky definitely one, trying to think if there are many others but don't think there are in the modern era.

4.) 01 Jul 2016 10:10:58
Mark Bosnich?

5.) 01 Jul 2016 10:28:26
Great shout Betty, top knowledge.

6.) 01 Jul 2016 11:13:47
Well done, I forgot about Bozza (intentionally I think)

19 Jun 2016 10:07:32
Eduardo Vargas looked very clinical in Chile's 7-0 win over Mexico in Copa America QF. He took chances with both feet and looked a real goal poacher. It's surprising there has been no talk of him moving to a bigger club given his good scoring record? He plays for hoffenhiem in Germany, anyone have any thoughts on him?

Perthredmike

1.) 19 Jun 2016 10:48:58
Well he usually plays out wide. I remember him playing a little for napoli and for QPR and being very underwhelmed. Not got a particularly good goal scoring record either. Quite skillful on his day but I doubt he'll go to a top club now

Remember. Yakubu scored at a decent rate and I remember him scoring 5 or 6 in one game (was in my fantasy team) but he was never top class. One good spell does not make a top striker sadly.

2.) 19 Jun 2016 10:53:23
I remember that guy, he only plays well in international games.
He was loaned to QPR, and he barely found the back of the net.

3.) 19 Jun 2016 12:37:18
he is a chilean version of podolski, rubbish for his club, world class for the national team.

4.) 19 Jun 2016 12:57:27
Hi Mike,
This is just another example of how international football can make average players appear world class and vice versa. International football is all about investment of time and the coaching staff. There is no opportunity to 'buy' honours like there is in domestic leagues another than to invest in the development team that focus on the development of national players. Look at Ronaldo for Portugal, stats wise one of the worst players at this years competition. Then look at Giacherini for Italy who couldn't get in the Sunderland team. It's all about system and tactics at international level and making the most out of what you have.

5.) 19 Jun 2016 14:25:12
Yh Yakubu wasnt world class, he was different class! Him in his hay days for Portsmouth and Everton spring to mind or when he was scoring screamers for Blackburn. The guy was a nightmare for defenders . The Original Beast mode imo, eat your heart out Akinfenwa ;)

6.) 21 Jun 2016 11:18:38
Thanks guys, great comments, I didn't realise he played for QPR. It's true international and club football can be totally different I agree. But very often we see comments here oh so and so is playing great at the Euros or WC and people want Utd to buy them based on 3-4 games :)
I just thought that was an outstanding effort, but he did have Vidal and Sanchez (still bitter Utd didn't outbid The Arse for him) creating havoc in the Mexican penalty area :)
I'm not saying I want him at Utd either :)
Cheers all GGMU.

Brad76 - good question.
It's always a hard decision whether he would learn and develop quicker around the likes of Rooney, Malta, Ibra, mickey (Pogba) or develop quicker as himself getting more game time with another team.
My view is that really good players get up to that level by being around the best.
Mourinho also seems to want to keep him around for now.

On TFM -
"His agent, Jonathan Barnett, has hit out at any speculation linking Fosu-Mensah with an Old Trafford exit. "

He told IBTimesUK : "There is no truth in it. These reports are complete rubbish. "

Great news.

Can you imagine maybe 2 years time a midfield dynamic duo of TFM and Pogba?
Scary.

I would really like to see pireira, TFM and Tuanzebe get some playing time this year see if ther can hold their own with the big boys after showing a lot of promise.

I agree with Alan and Shappy, a defensive mid is still missing for those big games (lesser teams our infield can survive without one as we'll dominate play and possession.
I can't wait for TFM to be given a chance at defensive mid as I think he will excel.

No one, not Pele, not Maradona, not Zidane, not Pirlo, not Robson, Not Keane, not Cantona will be man of the match every game.

Why do you have unrealistic expectations of Pogba?
He's played what? 2-3 games with his new teammates.

He's a player, a good player, will grow into being the engine of our team and will drive us on like Keane did.
But first and foremost he's a part of the United team.

Viewing United as a one man team will not win us championships, FA Cups, or Champions Leagues. Those are won by teams, of good players, playing well together.
Paul Pogba is a good player. If you can't see that then you're wasting your time commenting on here.

Rashford will learn more from training and playing with Ibra, Rooney, Martial, Miki, Mata and Pogba over the next year than he ever will kicking a ball around in some other second rate team.

Opportunities to learn from very good and proven players do not come along everyday.

He is 18-19, there is no need to rush Rashfords development.
