Say we get top four with the carabao cup also under our belts, what's everyone's honest assessment of Ten Hag this season.

Good considering some of the players he has had at his disposal.

From where he had to start? Has to be seen as a decent season. Most of the fans I spoke to just wanted to see us up there making a nuisance of ourselves in the top 4 again, and showing improvement in our play. Realistic enough to know miracles weren't going to happen overnight. Yes, we're crawling over the line just now, but a long season with no squad depth to speak of, is catching up. Losing top 4 would obviously put a different slant on things, but I don't think we will.

Having in mind the squad we have, I think he has done a good job. I'm not happy with his every decision, but then again, I wasn't happy with every Fergie decision either.
I would like to see what he can do with a stronger bench and a beast of a striker.

B- for me. Much better than last year but not saying much. Clear signs of improvement in certain areas but our away form is woeful and needs fixing. What if it’s carabao and fa cup but finish 5th? That’s a strong possibility as things stand.

I think he is clearly the right man. There are a lot of problems with our squad, a lot more than many will admit.

You have to remember where we were last year.
I think we have seen Ten Hag implment a style of play, and coach players many of whom have improved noticeably under him.

I thinknwe have seen him begin to remove those who need to go and assert his authority over the dressing room.

I think we have seen players come in who suit his style,

It was always a three or four year project this, he has done better than i thought he would amd got more out of this squad than i thought anyone could.

I fully expect him to remove more of the dead wood this summer, bring some more players in better suited to his style and take another stwp forward.

Mmmmmmmm. Difficult one.

You could argue he has succeeded with a below standard squad by winning a cup and getting us into the top 4 assuming that happens. But that could be because a lot of other teams have under performed equally as badly if not worse.

You could also argue that we have not changed a lot from last season to the level we expected. Sure the team appears to be playing better looking at our position in the league but the style has not changed drastically. We still try to rely on defence and score on the counter attack. That works against certain teams but the top teams, as has been proven by results, don't fall for that. We are not playing football across the whole park and rely heavily on one or two players, who when not firing leave us open to abuse.

But in fairness to ETH he can only operate with the players he has. If they are not open to, or capable of, playing in a different setup then he is royally screwed.

I guess we do have to give him another season with the players he wants in the team before we can judge him fully. Having said that we need the budget to do so.

However I do believe, and its only an opinion, that he is possibly not the man for the job. He seem tactically lacking when the pressure is on and is perhaps a little Ole like in his devotion to certain players over others. I have said on this forum, and been ridiculed for it, that Antony is a one footed show pony and bang average for the money. Martial is a lightweight who tackles less than Beckham. We need a marauding front line and for me they do not cut it.

But I shall not be calling for his head (unless he keeps Maguire! ) and doesn't stop me watching though and will back whoever is in the job. It must be hard operating with one hand tied behind your back by bureaucracy.

Ditto what Keefy T said.

Our season is just about decent if we fall across the line in top 4. If not, then i don't see any improvement and its a failure. We have been top 4 before and with players that many would agree were worse than what we have right now. God forbid if we fail to make top 4, who will our transfer targets be?

Jesus what have I just read! Think back twelve months ago! From then to now is night and day and that’s all down to the manager!
He’s had us challenging in three cups and even for a spell we were mentioned in a title race! He’s implemented a style of play, old Trafford is now an enjoyable place again and he’s slowly sorting the dressing room out!

The best part is there’s loads to improve on! He’s done all of the above without a striker plus many other deficiencies in the squad!

Top four and a cup is a good season, one I would have been happy with. Miss top four and not so good and a real inquest needed.

The key moment was the January window, we needed a striker and a midfield player desperately. The Leeching Glazers would not spend anything, so only loans available. Then we got the non scoring, stick insect, Peter Crouch light, Weg. We struggle to score goals and if Weg transfer was driven by ETH when others were available then he has to take an even greater part of the responsibility if we miss top four. Mainly the leeching owners have left this once great club struggling, so ETH has an uphill battle, yet needed to be smarter with his loan choices. We’re the best two available Weg and Sab? Or did he trust them because he knew them and whilst not having grasped how tough the Prem is, a learning curve for our manager.
I suspect Liverpool will see an opening now and win their remaining games. I said yesterday we need to win one of Brighton or West Ham or it could become nervy, having to beat Chelsea might well be the rock we shipwreck against in that circumstance. Moyes lying in wait is also tougher than it should be. This lack of success away from home against top 9 teams shows we lack a spine and a real heart, if ETH can’t see that, winning a Carling Cup may be his only success and that won’t be acceptable. Take this season as his learning curve at this level so top 4 and a cup is good season, but not the endgame. New owners needed and a smarter summer window than winter one is vital, yet I am also encouraged by what ETH seems to be doing with the youth.

When SAF arrived he set to bring the youth through, we were told that was why we should be patient in 89. I would love to hear the same of ETH and that could make it worth waiting for. Good seasons can be that youth development as well.

I always thought this would be a very difficult fixture and they seem to have our number. ETh He is a great manager and has improved us quite a bit. We lost a 4th vs 5th away game if you consider they have games in hand and on current from will finish ahead of the Scousers.

They are very difficult side to play for the entire league and have high quality players. A last minute handball off a dubious freekick leading to the corner.

Typical reaction by some would be to yell house on fire but when I was watching the game and though we might nick one but could not see them scoring and eth tactically is brilliant in setting up our team in certain way.

Players must be gutted. We are work in progress and our bigger issue if we create almost nothing from the right side, Antony is hopeless and petulant, Sancho no good playing there and neither is Rashford.

Martial and Wout contribute very little with goals rash has cooled off and we can't seem to score and put games away.

Finally, not one bit worried about top 4 and we will finish there comfortably and imo wrap it up with 2 games to go.

Going to the FA cup final and looking forward to winning our second trophy:)

Provided we make the top 4, I'd give the season about an 8 out of 10 for Ten Hag. We've had a lot of injuries these last few weeks, add to that the lack of backing in January when we clearly needed a forward and the fact our main forward spat his dummy out in November and left.

The schedule also hasn't helped us at all, though it is down to us progressing in competitions as well. However, couple that with the injuries and the rotation of players just wasn't possible so we look knackered at times.

Lots of positives in my opinion. We won a trophy, the majority of our signings have been among our best players, Rashford has been excellent after looking lost, the emergence of Garnacho and we haven't had Maguire in the team anywhere near as often.

Back Ten Hag, he is the right man for the job. Get him 3 starters, get rid of the likes of Maguire, Martial etc who cannot be relied upon and watch us continue to improve.

I have to agree with Chris1. Last season was utter dross. And seasons before were dull for long periods. The squad may not be title challengers but for some of the season at least I have enjoyed watching and listening to the games again. As a fan that is what is important to me. We may have had some big meltdowns but I was never expecting a miracle 1st season. The cup win and cup final to look forward to are surely more successful than the last few years? And we could just as easily finish 3rd this season which is something Fergie did a few times.
3rd, 1 trophy, another final is far more than I was expecting at the start of the season. Enjoyment was my requirement and that's been met.

Top 4 and a cup in my opinion is good enough achievement in terms of what we achieve on the pitch, but equally or arguably even more important was to see some tactics and style implemented along with desire and passion and to see an improvement in morale and energy across the squad.

Whilst I don't think we're the most exciting to watch and the play is quite one-dimensional, the players clearly have a better sense of what they're meant to be doing, no-one is moping about and there's a lot more energy.

So I think it's a B+ for ten Hag. Much improvement. Maybe that's harsh, given what he inherited. I've factored in the failure to get a decent striker in January as contributing to us not doing a little better in recent games, even though he had will have had nothing to do with that. If Utd win top 4 and two cups, maybe an A- could be justified, based purely on what he walked into.

With 2-3 strong signings (with a first team striker being one) I think we'll be better next season, but Chelsea and Liverpool will be much better next season, and Villa and Newcastle will continue to flash the cash. Those signings are required just to keep up with our rivals.

In general the season has been pretty much as good as we might have hoped for considering the situation last year. We were not even considered as a favorite for top 4. If we don't make it not only will it mean we'll have £50m less revenue next season, but it will also limit the quality of players attainable. That will make it a double disappointment But even so, commercial and financial considerations aside, a trophy and 5th would still be a major improvement.
