fred is so poor imo and has little composure going forward when it matters. A bit infuriating watching how wasteful we are in good attacking positions. Now watch him score the winning goal lol.

good news is last year for him. better suited to spain italy. Anthony also headless donkey and has boy love with ronaldo sees no other players in the penalty area, poor first half.

Is it possible to sell players at half time? He is horrific!

I think we have had 2 penalties and this ref is shocking. its a bit of joke imo.

Last year for him OP? This is Man United, we'll give him a 5 year contract, he was absolute ?.

I think we have bought well this window but anthony. Very poor delivery on a consistent basis for a what should be a top winger and really can't figure what he has that would worry teams. He should be dropped but neither rash or sancho like playing on the right. Fred and him were so so poor for me I felt like throwing something at the tv. These are the days were you appreciate mac. he would have made the difference in that midfield today and i have always said a keeper for me.

Antony was one of the only players trying to make something happen. Get a grip lads.

NC,

Can’t agree with anything in that post really, we clearly missed Eriksen today not mctominay. Fred was terrible but what do we expect, he usually is.

Antony is very green but very talented, he’s the first player to score in his first 3 premier league games for us, today is the first league game he didn’t score and I thought he was pretty dangerous, to say he should be dropped I just have to totally disagree.

There's a few players out there who are technically inept. The best teams have killers on the ball, they don't turn over possession easily. The amount of times we give the ball away is criminal.

Newcastle are playing well and working hard and we can't get into the game. Eriksen out and we lose the midfield battle.

I think he is a waste of money at 100m but happy to be proven wrong . He does his occasional tricks but the end product is so so poor. no good beating your man to put a terrible cross pass in. i would take raphinho at 60 mill anyday.

Yeah, but we didn't win GDS, so we have to slate some players.

Anthony looked far more dangerous that Sancho.

Refs missed 3 pens 1 for Newcastle and 2 for utd. Quite how we didn't get the most blatant one I have no idea.

Hard fought draw today, NC are a horrible team to play against. Very high compete level, they take you into the deep waters and I think we played pretty well.

We can moan about Fred all we want, but what are the front 4 doing when they get the ball in space. If you watch back the rooney utd teams it was plenty to get the front 3 or 4 the ball in space and let them work some magic. We are doing that regularly and not creating enough, finishing enough.

GDS2

disagree they were very physical in midfield and type of game mac thrives in. I agree erickson would have bene better than fred. he was aweful and that miss at the end sums up his day.

On a positive note I thought shaw was excellent, so were the the back 4. we have problems defending dead balls and besides that they never really had a sniff.

My takes from today's match.

We really missed Eriksen, we really lacked the ability to move the ball through midfield. Just a lack of intelligence in midfield. You can see why FDJ was EtH's top target.

We also lacked pace in behind. We rarely ran at them and without stretching them we congested the space centrally. Which was compounded by not having a clever player with great vision who could thread the eye of a needle to eek out chances.

Antony was the one who was trying things, but he isn't the kind of player who'll do it on his own. He needs players to play off of. He's clearly still adjusting to the league and step up in quality. I said when we signed him he'll likely be inconsistent this season, but has bags of talent.

We had 5 academy players on the bench today, with McTominay suspended, Eriksen ill, and a few others out injured.

We know this is a new side, under a new manager, and while our squad is high in numbers, it's low in quality and suitability to play the kind of football EtH keeps saying he wants us to play.

We can't be missing several first 11 players and expect to be able to maintain the level of performance.

Most would argue that our best 11 still requires 2-3 changes to suit EtH and his system.

If we are honest DDG isn't an ideal keeper for playing a high line possession, build from the back style.

Dalot and Shaw are probably only good enough as squad players and not first 11. Although Dalot has improved this season he still needs to go up another level to be good enough for where we want to be.

Fred just isn't suitable. But to not play him today meant one of Iqbal or Mainoo would have to start.

Ronaldo isn't the type of pressing, hard working, team focused CF that EtH likes to play with.

We are getting there, but we can't expect miracles. We have a long way to go, and are only at the start of our rebuild. Last season we would have lost that game.

dodgy

I posted my initial post 40 minutes into the game and nothing to do with the result. I think Anthony is a bit of trick pony and fred was very poor. Nothing changed in the second half to change my opinion. Funny we see games differently. Sancho was our best out of the front 3 for me.

I already said the ref was rubbish, blatant penalties imo. Anthony has no delivery and hits everything low or high, nothing even close to giving someone at the end a chance. if anyone wants to debate that watch every game he has played so far and post one decent cross. Just one

I am annoyed and usually not that away.

Antony is a young player in a new league which is a huge step up. He had 3 in 3 before today.

He will be fine.

{Ed014's Note - he’s a year older than Martinelli

Nothing Changes.

Difference is we didn't want raphinha or atleast ten hag didn't. He wanted Antony and got him.

3 goals in first 3 league starts ain't shabby to start off with. Give the lad time then judge him.

Understand slagging players who haven't cut it for a while but no wonder some fans get labelled toxic.

Sancho was the best? Blind mate.

Antony ain't your crossing winger typically, but Ronaldo wants Ronaldo gets.

16 Oct 2022 21:13:17
Maybe so ed, but martinelli has been in the league now 3 years I think? Cracking little player imo.

{Ed014's Note - for £6 million a bargain too. Antony is a Brazilian international so not much of an excuse for me though mate.

16 Oct 2022 21:22:44
Lots of players need time to adapt Ed. I think he’s done well, but he will be up and down and consistency is something he needs to develop. But I’m happy with how he’s started and think he’s only going to get better.

Also, international football isn’t what it once was, 3 good games in a row and you’ll get a cap these days.

{Ed014's Note - I’m just not sure about him, aside from those 3 goals he’s done very little for me but he’ll obvs get time.

You’re not wrong about international football, not sure if you even need 3 good games.

what does being new to the league have to do with being able to crossing the ball. His end product to date has been poor and you are either a good crosser of the ball or you are not. 80 percent of the time he has had no pressure on him to at least put something decent in and fails or pick someone else than ronaldo and he fails at that too.

Its not being toxic but blatantly obvious. You need to have a lot in your locker for the kind of money we have spend on him and assists are as relevant as goals for a winger.

20.) 17 Oct 2022
17 Oct 2022 05:18:42
Yes and as a left footed right forward you won't be seeing much in the way of crossing. It's just not how he plays.

21.) 17 Oct 2022
17 Oct 2022 07:03:02
Danny Murphy had a field day with the obsession with us not playing wingers on the correct sides when we have the best header of the ball in the league waiting for crosses. Maybe a good point on this occasion.

22.) 17 Oct 2022

Spenno, if you look back at most of Ronaldo's headed goals they have either come from set-pieces or when a winger has checked back in and crossed.

He then peels off a defender and out jumps them. He is good at getting power and direction on it.

He has never really been the sort of striker who sprints to get ahead of the CB while a winger whips in a cross. With him heading in the space behind the defender and in front of the keeper.

Maybe he could play like that, and certainly he has scored a few like that. But the majority of headers I can remember him scoring is when the winger checks back inside, and stands up a cross, with Ronaldo peeling off the centre back and then typically heading the ball back across goal into the far corner.

I think this is just a case of Murphy remembering how the game was played "back in the day" and thinking the same could/ should apply now.

That's not saying the game can't be played like that in the modern game, just that I can't think of any successful sides that do.
