ED002, I saw further down your analysis of United's transfers so far this season and mention that CB was one area we looked at but obviously never got anybody.

Who was we looking at? I'm guessing Hummels/Otamendi/Stones.

Filthy Schwein

{Ed002's Note - Mats Hummels was the primary target, if available - which he wasn't a move to Old Trafford was always going to be unlikely at best, but there was a chance and there was interest in him from Juventus. Godin was also of interest but was unlikely to be available in the summer. Garay would certainly have been an option for the summer - but the club failed to move for him. The likes of Howedes, Virgil van Dijk, Dragovic, Mings, Miranda were considered but only made sense at a much, much lower fees than were being asked or as potentyial future players. Terence Kongolo was possibly the one who got away. Otamendi was of interest to Barcelona, Zenit, Chelsea, Napoli, Manchester City and CSKA before a move to Valencia in January 2014 and a subsequent loan to Atlético Mineiro. As Otamendi has only effectively been playing in Spain since August 2014 a move in January was unlikely - but he was of interest. There has been interest in but if he forces a move from Dinamo Kiev I suspect he will end up elsewhere. Marquinhos won't happen as he has signed a new contract.

Otamendi was of interest to Barcelona, Zenit, Chelsea, Napoli, Manchester City and CSKA before a move to Valencia in January 2014 and a subsequent loan to Atlético Mineiro. As Otamendi had only effectively been playing in Spain since August 2014 a move in January this year was very unlikely - but he was of particular interest to Manchester United who did have offer rejected - with both Manchester City and Real Madrid asking to be kept informed of his availability and , of course, he did eventually make the move.

For me, the answer would have been Garay and Kongolo.}

ed002

With Chelsea, United, Madrid and I would guess Barcelona and may be even Arsenal all in the Market for a CB next window or next summer, who do you think is attracting the largest interest out there and will be the big name that people will look to sign.

Do we have an interest in Stones and did chelsea really offer 40 million for him as reported.

{Ed002's Note - Manchester United were interested in Stones before this window. Chelsea did not offer £40M for him.

Chelsea made a couple of offers for Marquinhos (not yesterday as reported) and could return to looking at him. They have a long-term interest in Varane but it is seemingly too difficult although perhaps next summer circumstances may make that viable.

Barcelona will likely look to Laporte again but much will depend on a background issue that has yet to be resolved.

Garay and Dragović will be the notable CBs that could be achievable in January. Balanta could be another with interest rising.}

Laporte will be moving in Jan it might not be us but he will defo go from Bilbao 😆😆

{Ed002's Note - There is no agreement with any club for that to happen.}

A champions league team will sign him

So Real Madrid confirm the signing of Kiko Casilla from Espanyol. Looks like maybe De Gea will be staying until next summer after all.

Hopefully he will sign a new contract so we can get a fee for him but I think that's unlikely. Hopefully he performs to his best if he stays.

De Gea won't sign a new contract and he'll either be off at the end of this window or by next summer.

I don't know about him but I wouldn't want to go to a club where they have just disrespected their own legend in Casillas.

2.) 17 Jul 2015 15:17:39
Roy Keane? RVP? Van nistleroy? All clubs let players go and its never easy. Casilles was past it so he had to go what's the problem?

3.) 17 Jul 2015 16:14:25
It's not them letting him go is it? The whole manor of how they got rid of him didn't look nice to me.

You could see he wanted to stay and I'm sure his exit could have been smoother.

4.) 17 Jul 2015 16:23:50
There's a big difference between players RVN and Keane, and Casillas. He came up the youth ranks and spent his entire career at the club only to be booed out the door by the fans and shunted out by the money men. Compare what happened to Casillas to Xavi's exit at Barca or Gerrard at Liverpool or Giggs's retirement with us. There's a level of respect that should be afforded to one-club players, and real once again demonstrated their complete lack of class

{Ed007's Note - I like Real Madrid but you're spot on, Danny. They way they handled his exit was horrible. They'll be quick enough to use his legendary status with them for publicity stunts in years to come though.}

Browsed this site for a couple of years now, finally decided to create an account and begin posting.

Very happy with the business we have done to date. It's nice to know our performances will not be resting on a 33 year old's shoulders this coming season.

Just to echo what everybody else seems to think, a striker and center back to come in for us to be challenging for things again.

I'd imagine we won't sign a stellar name up top as realistically Rooney will not be dropped and with the midfield signings we have made, it doesn't look like he will be dropping into the midfield anytime soon. I'd be happy with Enner Valencia or someone of that ilk to be honest (although I know he's one of the few we've not been linked with).

Center back is looking like Otamendi. Looks a decent player from what I have seen of him, could compliment Smalling nicely.

Apparently we only paid £6.5 million initially for Bastian. That's what his old club 1860 Munich (I think) have said as they had a sell on clause and received the fee in August. What a piece of business it is going to turn out to be.

Australasia is top Harry. You and the Mrs will enjoy that. I'd suggest getting yourself in a pub and just getting smashed, that's the best thing to do in Manchester.

I wish you could pick up sarcasm easier on the Internet. So I won't bite and lay into the OP.

People are looking into this adidas deal far too much. I work in the "fashion industry" (quotations as I hate the term) and I know adidas are not interested in the so called big player.

I've seen next seasons kit and it is very basic and classic. I was told by adidas "this one is simple, everyone will buy it anyway. Next year we introduce design to make sure they buy it again".

I wouldn't get drawn into any kind of 'adidas embassador signing' as it is a load of rubbish.
