Jesus, we played all the football and gave away 2 very bad goals, but got there in the end. Thunk showd we defintely need a CB and legs in Midfield. I'm giving a shout out to Luke Shaw.

Today he was very good good; he put in some great, strong tackles, never gets much credit, but today he was exactly what you want in a game: heart, aggression and great defending.

Shaw has been a stalwart all season. He takes a lot of abuse from posters here, but it seems there's an enormous bias against him, more as a result of his injury record than his actual play. Given the right tactical set up, he's one of the best crossers we have. He played an integral part in our winner today.

Shaw has had a great season, solid, dependable and available when most of our defenders have struggled with fitness this season.

That said, he is soon to turn 31, and this is the most number of league appearances he has made in a season since he was 17.

I don't think we need to sell him or force him out this summer, but it would be crazy to go into next season relying on him to be fit for the majority of the games.

He is probably one of those players who has benefitted most from the lack of European football, not having to play twice a week as well as all the travelling (which we often overlook as fans). If you look at the seasons where he has stayed fit the most, it tends to be when he isn't playing European football or when we have been knocked out early.

Personally, I think Dorgu is a better option as an out and out winger playing further up, but is someone who could cover at LB when needed, or in certain games where we know we will be dominant and want to have more attacking threat. In an ideal world Harry Amass would be ready to be a regular, but given his injury during the second half of this season, I think he could do with another season on loan.

I'd be looking to sign a top class LB to challenge Shaw next season, while loaning out Amass for another season. Then Amass can come back and compete with the new signing for the 2027/28 season after Shaw's contract has expired.

Need to be very tight today can't give away the chances we gave Brentford, the scousers won't miss them. High tempo, high work rate and plenty of noise at OT, cmon united.

Great 3 points again last night. Still very worried about the chances we are giving up, they missed some big chances last night and after they scored we were panicking. I'm not sure it's just players turning off or just lack of awareness but it needs to improve. At least Carrick made a change at half-time to address issues.

Mainoo was very good last night on the ball, while I understand Cas leaving we are really going to miss his goals and passion. To watch him near the end with such passion and desire was a joy. He really loves our club, I'm sure he will get a proper send off at our last home game.

3 pts is 3 pts. This 3 pts is crucial for the team and Carrick. Well done given the shortfall of key resources. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Another fantastic result. He's done a great job. And, well done bringing Kobbie back in. He was exceptional against Chelsea.

27 Apr 2026 23:13:37
He looked good again tonight, and seems to be hitting his stride. Fair play to him, and he sits a 433 well.
We were not very balanced tonight.
Amad and Mbeumo have lost a bit of form, and Cunha and Mainoo found some, so with the in form Cunha out we lacked someone else to support Bruno in that regard.
A lovely breakaway goal, another assist, and you cant underestimate Mbeumo's role in that even though he didn't touch the ball.
I only saw the last 20 min live, but watched the highlights.
A win next week and we are looking good for 3rd, and that would be a wonderful achievement by Carrick and team, given how unlikely it looked.

He has done a great job as interim and should be applauded for that without reservation.
Whether you think he is the long term solution or not, I dont think anybody could have done much better as interim.
If he doesn't get the job he will be very disappointed, but however it works out he has done his career no harm at all and will not be short of offers if he doesn't get one at United.

Hi Ken,

Yes, Carrick has given us some great results and got us in a good position. Yet... We were dominated at home by Brentford, who played the better football and didn't deserve to lose.

We were desperately hanging on.
Carrick should be applauded for his short-term work. The results will look good on his CV, and I hope he gets good offers from elsewhere to keep his managerial career going.

3 points is 3 points. Especially if itโ€™s 3 crucial points ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’ช.
Well done team (including Carrick) ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘.

Am absolutely delighted, that was solely about determination, commitment and spirit.

Given the number of missing defenders, the makeshift defence performed very well, Heaven was good and you cannot be anything other than very optimistic as to his future. Has to be said, Dalot put in a performance also. The collective 'they shall not pass' was impressive.

Kobi was very good in midfield and Bruno, well, another assist, that's 18 for the season, only 2 more to equal the all time record.

I think we are now pretty sure of Champions League next season and that's what tonight was about.

Going to check my lottery numbers now, that really would make for a pretty good Saturday!

Super win tonight, real team fighting spirit reminiscent of the Arsenal and City games, hopefully we are back to this level for the remaining games. Really think Heaven is a better suited to the tough Premier League than Yoro at the moment.

Yoro needs to bulk up in the summer. Heaven and Yoro could be a great partnership for years to come, Lammens behind them. Heaven and Maz were excellent tonight. I know we had a bit of luck too, but a great team effort and work ethic tonight.

Agreed, redcon. Yoro and heaven as a future partnership have a lot of merit. Let them mature and learn from established senior CBs.

What a bloomin brilliant performance and result, as poor as we were on Monday night, we were excellent tonight. Big performances from our big players when we needed them. Ayden heaven, take a bow son, magnificent. To go there missing our top 4 cbs and come away with 3 points, Iโ€™m buzzing. Have a great weekend everyone. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Even Dalot had a good game, Tim. Never thought I'd say it.

18 Apr 2026 22:11:41
And just to clarify by excellent I mean organised, solid and controlled when we need to be. Not a great attacking performance, but wins come in all shapes and sizes and I'll happily take that one.

18 Apr 2026 22:16:31
Banjoe,

I think we all would have had a good game if we were marking their useless left winger. Made my night. Great result.

18 Apr 2026 22:28:57
Dalot had a good game but Mainoo imo was man of the match by quite some distance.
We didn't play well constructively at all, and we got lucky this week for once. You don't always have to be the better team to win.
Maz and Heaven had good games, I thought.

14 Apr 2026 12:54:04
The 1st half was a horrible performance from the team; can it be partly attributed to not playing any games for so long?
2nd half was better but still not good enough.
Mainoo didn't play as he had an injury concern, Dalot didn't start because he was recovering from an illness and Harry was suspended.
Ref had as bad a game as Maz. Can't see how that 1st goal was not a foul and yet Martinez got sent off by the same ref in the same match.

There were moments in that 2nd half where we could have equalised (with 10 men) but for some saves and goal line clearances.
I don't think Sesko should be our main striker, yet if at all.
Let's see how the rest of the matches go. I still think we will finish 3rd.

To be realistic I bet a few of us saw that result coming tonight. Even without a three week break Utd often start off slowly. Factor in the Utd absentees and a Leeds team scrapping for their Premier League survival and was a defeat such a surprise.

It highlights several things.

We still need a lot of better players in defence and midfield especially.

We still need a captain who brings order to the chaos on the field and inspires/scares the team to perform better.

Mbwuemo Amad and Cuenha whilst all being talented have been poor on recent months and their goals and assists minimal.

Carrick whilst obviously being a sensible calm figure has had the chance to blood more of the youngsters but relied on the same squad players who have toiled and under performed for a few months now.

Lastly very much like last year when Liverpool won the title because their challengers were poor so Utd are in a false position now. I can see Chelsea beating us next game and with rarely any easy games in this league Utd might slump out of the Champions League places. This will dramatically affect the ability to buy better players and a top top manager.

Agree with all these points, Salford.
The standards have been allowed to slip, and, post the City and Arsenal games, we have been on a steady decline. Some will argue the results speak otherwise. Let's see where we are at the end of the season.

It might not be a bad thing if we do drop out of the UCL places.

Let us be clear on one thing, this squad, even with a few players churned this summer, is not competing for honours next season.

That is a fact.

If we appoint Carrick, we are effectively on a merry-go-round that we have been on before.

14 Apr 2026 07:16:58
I wouldn't expect anyone would agree with me, but at the moment, Yoro, Maz, Martinez, Ugarte, Amad are not good enough. A few others are barely good enough, and the guys on the bench are definitely not good enough.

14 Apr 2026 07:55:09
I was disgusted with the attitude and lack of cohones by us last night.
Banjoe, I agree.

14 Apr 2026 07:56:44
Sadly, Jimbo, I'm in full agreement.

14 Apr 2026 08:20:24
There is definitely something not quite right with our intensity at the start of matches, especially when we have a longer period off. Not sure if it is the lack of games we have, or the level of training (whilst I am sure the players are benefiting).

We had a training camp in Ireland that, after this game, looks like it might have been a jolly!

We have done well to get into this position and probably have outperformed expectations (position wise) post Amorim, however, performances show that the team still has major issues.

Carrick has done well, brought calm and a direction to the team... If he is given the reins fully, I would expect a different approach with a full season and team, as it feels at the minute like it is just about getting through the season for the Champions League.
