Like any other high profile business things don´t always go the way you plan them. But to attack LVG for incompetence or the like is utter stupidity. Far too often on these pages - especially during the transfer window - folks appear with cool funny sounding names and very little substance to add. It´s getting tiresome reading the knee jerk reactions of the transfer window tourists who visit the site with their doom mongering. Rebuilding a world class football team will take time and a huge ammount of behind the scenes efforts to which we´re not privy to. I´m sure to the short sighted it may seem LVG and Woody are getting it all wrong and screwing up the window. But it may just be that sometimes you say ´no´ to something in life or business because you have a bigger ´yes´ already or one you´re working on.
I´m sure most folks who watched the team last night saw the beginnings of a new and exciting era for United. LVG may be too much of an absurdly Dutch liberal for most Utd based conservatives, but he´s a world class business manager and coach. Give him time.
Rant over.

Absolutely excellent post Jomo.

Couldn't agree more jomo. Seems that signing players is more important than winning matches for some people. Winning trophies with a strategy based upon promoting youth where feasible is far, far more satisfying than the Galactico model, which is the biggest concern I have about Woodward.

I'd stand and applaud if i thought it'd mean anything, great post.

very true 75% of the site disappears once we hit September. Then the real fun and debate starts lol. The transfer window is just nuts and so much speculation and so many stories

I've been reading through all the german papers today, and all of them are saying its a done deal with Bastian. Today at the Allianz Arena, Bayern will present their new team for next season, they're expecting up to 70,000 fan to be there. There's also concerns that if Bastian didn't walk on the pitch that Pep is going to be seriously booed by the fans. On the Bayern forums and the magazine reports people are very P'd off at him leaving, saying Bayern are losing their ' emotional heart' or their ' Hearts- blood'. And levelling the blame on Pep and his failure to play him. Anyway, Utd have made an exceptional coup in getting Bastian, and a LOT of it comes down to his superb relationship with Van Gaal. When LVG was 'release' by Bayern only Bastian and Lahm spoke out publicly against it. so there is a good relationship there. I for one am over the Moon at him signing. Go back and watch the last WC final and see how he conducted himself when he was being fouled and kicked and punched by opposing player trying to stop him. He never retaliated and almost won the game singlehanded my with this dignity, integrity and leadership. Having Bastian sitting in front of our defence is pure gold.

Good post mate that world cup final was one of the great midfield performances from him he was a true warrior this will be a fantastic bit of business if it happens.

2.) 11 Jul 2015 13:36:46
Man of the match in the final. I remember the game in 2010 when lampard scored that goal england had a crazy 10 mins then after that didn't have a chance schweinsteiger controlled the game wanted him signed ever since

apparently Felix Magarth has urged Bastian to move saying if he is wanted by a manager who is going to use him and has plans for him he should move. obviously having a go at Peps use of Schweinsteiger ( from the German 'Focus' magazine ) Focus also say the only thing missing from the deal is him signing the contract.

hi.
sitting in a lovely hotel out in the sticks near Bayreuth in Germany with my brother in law who's a BIG Dortmund fan and journalist. We were discussing Gundogan and Hummels ending up at United, and here's his opinion ;
" Gundogan- take him, take him. he's a shadow of himself. Some players make it back after such a bad injury but so far he hasn't. If you want to buy him I'll drive him to Manchester. " On Hummels " probably the best defender in Europe or the world, but he's an accident waiting to happen. Every 3 games he make a really bad mistake that always ends up as a goal - a half assed back pass, or the like and gets punished for it. probably too slow for the PL. But has the most amazing ability to pick out the dream passes forward. Will be sad to see him go, but too many mistakes".
Now that was an eye opener! I thought he would lamenting loosing two big assets from his team but it seems to be quite the contrary. I would be interested to hear some more informed opinions about Gundogan and Hummels.

I watch a lot of German football and I do like Dortmund myself but I have to disagree with some of what you have said mate. Hummels is a risk at times I agree but who isn't? All defenders are liable to make mistakes at some point even Vidic and Rio made a few bloopers but I think as long as we have someone beside a Hummels type player with pace to mop up (say Rojo or Smalling) then I think he will be okay.

In terms of Gundogan, I would welcome him with open arms. He has been out for a long time and to judge him at the moment is unfair. He got injured playing for one of the best attacking forces in Europe and came back into a sinking ship. I think if he is managed correctly we could get him back to his best and if the price being branded around at the moment is correct then in the current market we could be getting a bargain.

2.) 30 Apr 2015 23:41:44
I said the other day that I don't rate gundogan qand also hummels is good but not special. And I've seen nothing to change my mind. Gundogan will be a massive mistake.

3.) 30 Apr 2015 23:57:47
If you watch the bundsleague spelling since dortmunds revival hummels passing as been outstanding and as for gundogan spelling he is just getting back from a serious injury he is still all over the pitch so wait untill he his fully back

4.) 01 May 2015 08:10:15
gundogan would be a risk he has been average since he returned from injury, people want to buy him based on past form.
hummels is one of the best cb in the world

5.) 01 May 2015 20:59:43
Thanks guys. just to be clear, it wasn't my opinion on the players but my Gernan brother in laws opinion. I think Hummels is exactly what we need. A World Cup winning leader from the back. Gundogan I haven't seen often enough to make an informed decision. But I was surprised by my bro in laws assessment.

I prefer Ottamendi to Hummels or Varrane.

I got a text during the game tonight from a german journalist in stuttgard. he said." in the first 50 minutes Man United had the best defense I have seen for a long time in this arena. but what is going on right now? why did they change their style after they scored?". that's straight from someone who watches them week in week out. The tv pundits also said it was THE test of the season for Bayern tonight. So I for one don't buy any negativity about tonight. did anyone watch athletico tonight. an almost identical setup to Utd but A were much faster on the break.
A big bow to the team tonight.

Bild is the equivalent of the Star or the Sun. I wouldn't put too much faith in what they say.

If you look at the one thing that ties Moyes and LVG together, it's the fact both of them had/ have R Giggs sitting next to them on the bench and in the training and back rooms. If Ryan can prove his mettle elsewhere, where he's in the firing line ( pun intended) and succeeds. He could be Utd manager. till then, his managerial inexperience and poor track record and obvious non or negative influence is questionable at the very least. He should go and prove himself elsewhere a la Neville.

There's a neat German saying about football. It translates as " Football is the most important unimportant thing in the World" It good to remember that sometimes !

I read he's sold his image rights to someone not connected to RM. why would he do that? he'd do it if he was not playing for them anymore and wanted more control of his investments.
